  1. If the 180 repack cycle does come to fruition, reserve repack jobs will be cheaper because there will be the same number of riggers but proportionately "fewer" pack jobs to do. Over-abundance of anything causes prices to drop, not increase.
  2. Use regular 550 suspension line and make the sleeve retainer line the length of the pleated canopy and crown lines for an unimpeded "slide-off" during deployment.
  3. You'll need a deployment bag and static line to make it look proper for a good display. Google a copy of TM 10-1650-292-23 & P for closing instructions to make it look good.
  4. If you have never stowed a canopy and lines into a sleeve, better get a good illustrated manual or some instruction as it is a bit more involved than the previous directions. While they are basically and generally correct there is a certain procedure and precedence for line stowage.
  5. My MK I will "bump" up and down a bit in heavy turbulence but that is all. It won't go out of control or collapse near the ground as a square will. It will not oscillate by itself - only while recovering from radical control inputs from me. And you are correct about Nylon - age doesn't hurt it one bit. My PC is 43 years old and still going strong. Like anything else, take care of it and it will outlast you.
  6. Made my five static line sport jumps from a big Sikorski UH-34D helo at Quantico, VA in 1962. It was great - plenty of room inside, a huge door and easy to spot from. The students could do poised exits by climbing out onto the steps and then pushing off the landing gear strut. It was a great old bird to jump.
  7. It has been a long time since the MT-1's were in the system. For the record, I don't think it is an MT-1, but I was wrong once before.
  8. Streamer for certain, sleeved or not. I had one on my first freefall in 1962 at Frontier Skydivers in Orchard Park, NY. A 28' round never came out of the sleeve - only 1/2 the lines deployed from the sleeve stows. Deployed my pilot-chuteless 24' T7A as trained and landed safely - in a tree. Got to practice two emergency procedures that day.
  9. I apologize if I sounded confrontational. I just want to know where the "SUPPOSED" retirement age comes from ? Too many people think that a 20year plus canopy is good for nothing but a car cover, and that drives me mad :) sorry dude. "Supposed" retirement age, my ass! I routinely jump a 43 year old Para Commander and a 40 year old Tri-Conical reserve. Needless to say, I unhesitatingly trust my life to both of them. "Modern" skydivers have an unhealthy fear of any rig more than 10 years old - 'taint so, folks. Most rigs, if properly stored and maintained will outlast their owners.
  10. In 1963 and '64 we used to jump from an L20 on Okinawa onto Yomitan DZ. The L20 is the military Beaver and was a strong performer.
  11. Will a NAA Phantom 24' diameter canopy fit into a newer T10R container? Yeah, I know, I'm showing my age here! LOL But I still would like to know for a project. Thanks all!
  12. You most certainly are still a skydiver....lomg layoffs don't matter.
  13. Jumped at Elsinore in 1963 and I'm sure that's the era.
  14. Howard, I am definitely a level 5. Started on T7A's in 1962 with the placard on the reserve flap. Landed under one twice after a Mae West and a streamer. Packed many dozens without a pilot chute after I got my rating and also dropped students wearing the no-pc reserves. Ahhh, the good ol' days! Larry D-2238
  15. The fat guys will land softer under a C-9 than they will with the aircraft still wrapped around them.

  17. Just because something can be done does not mean it is wise to do so. I have a Katana GSX 750 that will do 135 MPH but I don't drive it that fast. Always remember: there are old skydivers and there are bold skydivers - there are NO old, bold skydivers.
  18. Why do you "high time" skydivers leave such antagonistic remarks? Give the guy some slack man. The guy is asking for some help. Your comment ripcord4 clearly was meant to antagonize or at the very least was a belittlement. Why? My answer was to save his life. He started out correctly by asking the manufacturer. When he didn't get the answer he wanted, he started fishing here in this Forum for someone to tell him it was okay. He's not looking for help - he's looking for someone to validate his bad idea.
  19. Sure, go ahead and ignore the manufacturer's recommendation.
  20. It is a Douglas O2 observation biplane.
  21. Hey, Sky! It was a guy named Dallas Wittgenfeld - I jump with him here in the DeLand area. I have some older photos and articles about him - send me your e-mail address and I'll send them on to you. They are too large to upload here.
  22. Wait a minute here! You say "We have 300 mains and even that seems like a tight fit. The clear top flap here seems like it will be damaged very soon and will be a pain in the ass to repair. The harness seems to slip quite often. I adjust mine to make sure it's shorter before EVERY jump, other wise I open with a chest strap in my throat. Oh and the magnetic risers do come open every now and then." But you go on to say "Overall the rig is pretty freakin sweet." WOW....I'd hate to see a rig you didn't like!
  23. Go with the full-face helmet. Open face will protect your head - the full-face will protect your head and your face. Nothing like an elbow or knee to your jaw during RW!
  24. It's pretty hard to give advice to you when your Profile is not completed. How are we to know your weight, experience level, etc?
  25. David, I have heard that some people convert from a ripcord to a BOC on the MC-4, but I can not say if it would be worthwhile or not. I have no problems using the ripcord on the MC-4. Just remember not to throw it - hold on to it - they are expensive! LOL MY MC-4 is black also. I have been told that the black h & c's were made for the USN SEALS, but have no proof of that. They are not all that uncommon. When you jump the MC-4, remember it a a LARGE canopy and you will not have a lot of penetration with it...stay with lower wind speeds. It is a big, heavy rig but you will have no problems with it anmd they are fun to jump as well as a great attention getter.
