  1. This is not a MIRPS pilot chute, it is a a drogue from the MC-5 military system. This item is a drogue parachute which is installed between the main parachute and the static line on a MC-5 freefall system. It provides stability when the deployment bag is yanked out of the main compartment.
  2. You need to find him an MC-1C or SET-10...they are out there.
  3. Ditto that, guys! First freefall I had to dump a "Twilly" at almost terminal and it HURT!
  4. How come I only see one bootprint? What ever happened to "Feet & knees together"?
  5. Made several for myself as fun jumps and dropped hundreds of jumpers as students on the S/L PC's.
  6. Thanks everyone! I see my Ortho doc next Wednesday so hopefully I will be released from my walking boot then. I have a list of questions for him about jumping again - I'm in no rush actually. I'll wait as long as he says and a bit longer for insurance on my old bones. PLF's for certain - even though it didn't help on the runway!
  7. 5 years ago was the last time I jumped my old Pap. ~ and it was definitely the LAST time...we ain't 20 anymore! Ain't that the truth!
  8. OOOPS! Mea Culpa guys....you know I meant '08. Must have hurt my head as well as my leg!
  9. Yes, I crashed a very porous, very aggresively short-lined PC onto a runway. Yeah, I know...DUMB!
  10. On December 29th '09 I broke my right fibula in a non-displaced fracture. I have been in a boot since then. When can I plan on returning to parachuting? I'd like to hear from jumpers with similar injuries and how long they were grounded.
  11. A1 "spider"-type pilot chutes are still being used in military reserves to this day. They work and are easier to pack than the MA-1 and kicker plate. I have never seen an A-1 in a sport rig - just the MA-1's and its variations.
  12. Manual sent...check your e-mail.
  13. Great photos from back in the day when we didn't take ourselves so seriously.
  14. Amherst Sport Parachute Center on Millersport Highway between Buffalo, NY and Lockport in the very late '60's. We had a Tri-Pacer (30 minutes with 3 jumpers to 7,500'...bring a lunch), a 172 and a Cessna 195. Eventually folded and merged with Frontier Skydivers.
  15. Looked up Orchard Park, NY Airport on the site. In the early '60's it was the home of Frontier Skydivers as well as being an Army (National Guard) Aux Aviation field. In 1962 I made my first free-fall there JM'ed by Kenny Kotwas and Terry Slate. Had my first malfunction as the canopy never deployed from the sleeve and I had to dump the T7A reserve. Boy, did that hurt - but not as much as the alternative. Made my first tree landing under the reserve so I had a chance to practice two emergency procedures that day!
  16. Get a Grabber or 44 Magnum pilot chute as discussed above. My 44 Mag will pull a sleeve-deployed SET-10 35' main off my back with no problem so I know it will work with your gear.
  17. I have always made my sleeve retainer lines the length of the canopy for positive, unimpeded deployments. In the case of my PC's, I use the length of the canopy plus the crown lines.
  18. I don't have a name for it but I bet it was an old military HALO canopy. As far as I know, all military HALO MC-3's were the 28' Jumbo PC and Olive Drab.
  19. Okay, y'all....a question for you PC experts. I currently own an all-black MK I PC dated 1970...no colors at all - solid black. Does this pattern have a name? I'd post a picture if I knew how - I can never get the size down small enough.
  20. The all-black PC with multi-colored keyhole was the "Church Window" - I had two of them and it was the prettiest PC pattern EVER! Hi ya, Beatnik!
