  1. I have been using a ProTec Alpha lately...I like it a lot.
  2. Adeline Gray made the first jump by a human with a nylon parachute at Brainard Field in Hartford, Conn, not in France.
  3. Well, if you ever want to get your knees in the breeze from a C-47, we always are looking for qualified people. We make annual pilgrimages to Normandy, Holland for Market-Garden and Belgium to commemorate Bastogne. Great jumps all.
  4. Bigun, Here's link to our latest jump event - just back from Normandy. http://www.pararesearchteam.com/2012-Normandy/2012-LJT-Carentan-Jump.html Sorry it's not clicky! I am a computer dummy.

  6. Profile updated! Yes, I will be 70 years of age in the fall....looking forward to being a Jumper Over Seventy. I don't freefall much anymore but I am still active doing WW II military commemoration jumps ( yes, using military rounds ) probably 12 - 15 per year....slowing down in my old age, I guess.
  7. It was fifty years ago today that I made my first sport parachute jump at Marine Corps Schools, Quantico, VA. I used a 28' cheapo canopy (there were no other kind in those days!) with a single blank gore in a B4 harness and container with one (!) two-shot Capewell release and a T7A twill reserve. The aircraft was a UH34D from MCAS Quantico and we jumped from 2,500 AGL. My jumpmaster was GySgt Levi Woods, who in 1960 was the first man picked up via the "Skyhook" system. Little did I realize that 50 years later I would still be jumping from perfectly good airplanes! Where did that 50 years go to?
  8. I am thinking about a Juki LU 562 sewing machine. Can anyone give me the benefit of their experience with this machine? Pro..cons...equivalent machines, etc. Thanks, all.
  9. Frank, I'd love to see a "modern" version of the PC, especially a Jumbo due to my advancing age! keep me in the loop if this progresses, please. (Don't forget the shorty sleeve.) Larry D2238
  10. Yes, I know. I need the information about the usual type of mass para drop troop-type chutes with a deployment bag and static line.
  11. To all...especially our military riggers here: are there ANY military parachute systems that leave the d-bag attached to the canopy rather than the static line? Leaving only the s/l to be retrieved? Thanks in advance for your help!
  12. I'd bet that canopy has the rate of descent of a Simonized bowling ball!
  13. And mine also: Certificate: Senior Parachute Rigger Date of Issue: 12-10-70
  14. The aircraft pictured is an A20 Havoc bomber testing caterpillar-type tracked landing gear for rough field landings.
  15. Hey Beatnik..... Can you post the pics you took of me under my all-black PC at Skydive Palatka? I can't get them small enough to post. Edit to add: just checked my logbook - I used to own this canopy. Soild it about two years ago. This is the chute I referenced above...small world, huh?
  16. Is a 1.17 too high a wing-loading for a first rig, say starting at the 40 jumps mark after stepping down? In a word: yes
  17. Toss it - it's not worth the risk. This is last-chance gear you are talking about.
  18. Why does everyone want to know what they can "get away with"? Why not do it properly in the first place and avoid all the known/unknown problems created by trying to cut corners? Jumping is dangerous enough without compounding the risk.....too large/small harnesses, containers, canopies. This is your life you are cutting corners with!
  19. I am obsessive/compulsive about packing my rigs. If I could iron out the wrinkles, I would. 2700 + jumps - no mals. How are you doing?
  20. Check on eBay for the going prices. MC-4's are listed all the time...occasionally the MT-1's.
  21. Better to be cool-looking with no/marginal "helmet" and brain-damaged/dead than to be caught wearing a real helmet that will do you some good in the event of a serious head-banging.
