  1. I'll jump there again for old times sake but it damn sure won't be a 28' cheapo! Keep me posted!
  2. Diesel, I was one of the original members of QSPC back in 1962. We used a DZ out towards Camp Barrett and jumped from UH-34D's from the Air Station. Made my first sport jump on a blank gore 28' cheapo.
  3. I'll second that: if Bob Mathews doesn't have it or can't get it, it's not to be had anywhere.
  4. We used to call that a mid-air collision!
  5. So I guess it is better to be "cool" and dead - than uncool with B-12's and alive? Ahh, all the designer skydivers must shudder at the thought of something "old school". Let's compare how many jumpers have died from mis-routed or not routed at all chest straps to failed B-12's. Anyone?
  6. Why not apply the KISS principle here and just use a B12 snap on the chest strap? Okay - flame away!
  7. I jumped a Diablo once....there won't be a second time. Scared me silly....I'm more than comfortable under my Spectre 210...that's why it scared me, I guess!
  8. "loaded with a T-10R24 (1964)" Hmmm, a 50 year old military surplus reserve canopy is fit only for a car cover.
  9. Ahh, yes, another designer skydiver enters the ranks.
  10. I have the MC-4 manual as a PDF if that will work.
  11. Scott, I can send you the manuals in PDF form if you want. PM me with e-mail address. Larry
  12. There is a conversion available to fit a CYPRES to the MC4 rig.
  13. Agree with the above posters on low-time jumpers giving advice to lower-time jumpers. As far as down-sizing goes, I have 2700+ jumps and jump a Spectre 210 with NO plans to go any smaller. I am 70 years of age, weigh 145 pounds and do not need to go screaming through the sky at 40 MPH. I just want a reliable rig that will get my arse (and the rest of me) down safely.
  14. Anybody here ever a member of the Joint Forces SPC at Camp Kue or the 173rd A/B club located on Yomitan DZ on Okinawa back in '63 - '64?
  15. Sounds like everyone's first attempts at RW!
  16. The USPA is not an enforcement body and therefore cannot ban equipment. Only the FAA has regulatory powers when it comes to equipment. The USPA can only suggest, encourage or discourage equipment use.
  17. I'd be interested in that USAF link...thanks!
  18. It wasn't hard because we didn't know it was supposed to be hard. We just tried everything and kept what worked and dumped what didn't.
  19. Perhaps I mis-spoke....I did not mean to imply that the C9 was used EXCLUSIVELY...only that it is still in use. By the way, what canopy is in that square-look-alike? I find it hard to believe it is a square.
  20. " do they still jump rounds? Hope not. " Oh yeah, all the services still use the old reliable C9 28' canopy as the emergency bailout rig. Harness and containers vary from the B12 but are basically the same rig as back in the '60's.
  21. Hi Jerry, Dug out my OLD logbook from back then and there it was..San Marcos. Jumped there twice with my raggedy-ass old 28' cheapo in 1963 while I was staging for my tour on Okinawa. Damn...that was almost 50 years ago...time flies, huh?
  22. Wasn't there a San Marco (or Marcos) DZ near Oceanside back in 1963? I seem to recall them when I was at Camp Pendleton.
  23. Contact Bob Mathews at National Parachute Test Center ([email protected]) for parts. He usually has a lot of that stuff laying around.
