  1. Over insulating an attic can bring the temp in the space above the attic down to the dew point and allow moisture to build up and cause damage. So, special attention has to paid to keep the amount of ventilation in line with the amount of insulation. I.E. - Joe Home owner adds a bunch of insulation, nice and thick, and looks forward to smaller heating and cooling bills. He inadvertantly covers up the vents in the eaves - Now moist air builds up in a cooler attic space, and condenses in the colder spots - the eaves. Mold appears inside the house, up near the ceiling, around the perimiter. The jacket has to "breathe" - Just like your winter coat. Attention has to be paid to the performance of the HVAC system to keep it in line with the performance of the "envelope" - or building. It doesn't make good sense to have a hi-performace HVAC system with a poorly performing structure, and vice-versa. Easy Does It
  2. I've worked a little with contractors that are involved in the whole "green" /energy-effciency movement. Seems some consumers get the two mixed up, and another one of the challenges they are finding is when people over-insulate, etc. and wind up with mold and/or effciency problems. Retrofitting has proven to be a real headache, especially when Joe Homeowner adds 18" of insulation to his attic and winds up with mold all over the place inside the house, condensation issues, etc. Easy Does It
  3. In al honesty, "green" is OK in my book as long as it's cost-effective. I think "Green should save money and be eco-friendly. Easy Does It

(Glad that you have a Javelin for sale, but what size is it, what canopies will it hold, when was it built, serial #, etc? ) People that block up the parking lot waiting 15 minutes for some one to load up thier car with two carts of groceries and five screaming kids, only for a space that's just twenty feet closer to the front door. (Park a little further away and enjoy the walk, asshole.) Poorly-managed kids in public places. Dog crap at the DZ. 22. From personal experience in a union shop. I worked a manufacturing company, union shop, that was famous for cyclical hiring/laying off workers in droves. Most companies go by seniority. - If person X is facing lay off in department "A", and qualifies for a position in department "B", they may be able to "bump" a person with less seniority out on the street and take thier slot. Also, it wasn't uncommon for people with more seniority to volunteer to be laid off, basically "sacrificing" themselves so a person with less seniority could work a little longer. (Some one actually did that for me, while my wife was expecting our first child.) If you're in a union shop, check the rules and check with your steward and/or HR department about what ever bennies you might get. All I got was unemployment, pay for my unused sick and vacation days, and a COBRA letter. In any case, you may be much better off waiting to get axed against your will. The longer you work, the more you may be entitled too. Added after reading Quades' post - +1 Quade - Good info and true also - Many companies certainly differ in policies. May be the difference between getting laid off (the spirit being you could get called back when business picks up- ) Or just plain eliminated, downsized, rightsized, or whatever the PC term-du-jour is. Right now we're cutting back to 24/5 operation from 24/7, and going to 4-day weeks, and short shut-downs. Let all of our temps go, froze all hiring, took an axe to the budget, curtailed OT, yadda yadda yadda - - Hopefully that's as slow as it gets. Most all of our customers (we haven't lost any-) are placing smaller orders and asking for shorter lead times. Delivery of raw materials are frequently delayed. Everyone is trying to keep inventories to bare minumums, ourselves included. But that's OK - That's going to get fixed today with one stroke our our Prez' magic pen - I'll shut up before we get sent to S.C. - - Easy Does It
  23. Until they break--- No not really - Like Billvon said. I've never really owned a set of risers long enough to wear them out. I did replace one set after a hard opening that bruised my ribs - Lots of popped stitching, etc. They looked kinda like a Lasagna noodle. Easy Does It
