  1. no way I would wait 8 months for a container regardless of the features people safely put bazillions of jumps on various Mirage, Javelin, Voodoo, Talon, Infinity, Wings, Dolphin, etc rigs on an ongoing basis... some offer "skyhooks" as an option, some don't... all the container manufacturers I'm familiar with have their container sizes published... e.g. http://www.miragesys.com/sizing-guide/ some are more buried than others on their sites though so if you wanted a Op193 with a Pulse 190 in a Mirage you would go with an M5 sized container (just an example)... remember a Pulse packs up at least one size smaller so a 190 is going to pack up like a full ZP 170 as for jumpsuits... everyone I know has them custom made... there really isn't an "off the rack" suit that is going to be ideal for anyone, myself included... have a (sober) friend measure you and get exactly what you want/need if you're ready to plop down that much cash NSCR-2376, SCR-15080
  2. Well if you want a tablet with the power/versatility of a full laptop check out the Surface Pro 2. The stylus is a great tool too. I have a first-gen one and love it other than the battery life. The new one took care of that issue. NSCR-2376, SCR-15080
  3. in general, yes my first canopy (I owned) was a Safire 1, the Safire 2s are even better so I hear... nice openings, good flare NSCR-2376, SCR-15080
  4. they're really called "tabi socks" wire bites hurt... I'll stick with Vans and gloves I'm sure someone will end up with a toe ripped off wearing those skele-toes someday It'll be like the scene from Fargo... NSCR-2376, SCR-15080
  5. Without quantifying the definition of "rich" that article is pointless. People in San Francisco sit around and read a lot because they are all "house poor" buried in their over-priced/under-water mortgages and can't go anywhere since BART is always on strike. NSCR-2376, SCR-15080
  6. well I doubt many cars short of a Veyron could smoke a bike actually going 300km/h like that... topping out a bike is still a lot more impressive than sitting in a leather armchair and mashing your right foot to the floor NSCR-2376, SCR-15080
  7. jump what you like but there are better options out there than the out-of-production F111 canopies of yesteryear... sure they work, but I'd rather jump just about anything else off the rack than that given a choice if you like the flare style of an F111 wing, check out the PD Pulse you might find that the two-stage flare of the marginally higher performance wings like the Safire2, Pilot, Sabre2, etc is more to your liking as your canopy skills progress... it certainly gives you more options than "bury the toggles and hope for the best" and btw, even if you "have no interest in swooping" that doesn't mean you need to keep the training wheels on forever NSCR-2376, SCR-15080
  8. more like speedo error... no way a stock RS6 is doing over 200mph, even with the limiter removed motorcycle speedos are notoriously inaccurate at the top of their range NSCR-2376, SCR-15080
  9. taking 10 seconds to talk to a packer and make sure you're on the same sheet of music seems to solve any of these problems IMO most packers seem to be reasonably accommodating since they want repeat business IMO NSCR-2376, SCR-15080
  10. great story bump from a new NSCR... a triple jump... NSCR-2376, SCR-15080
  11. when I feel "current" again, I'll send in for my D... I was lazy at logging too for a while so that didn't help when I get to around 600 I'll make it official... I'd like to hit 1k before 10 years since my first jump too but I'd have to take a lot of time off work never really needed anything more than a B so far... beach jumps require a C locally, but those are rare NSCR-2376, SCR-15080
  12. I'll bite... at first, you are super-tense and trying to hold your torso up while reaching down with your arms, that won't work. Your hips should be your balance point, thrust them forward and squeeze your buttocks if you have to in order to keep you from pulling your knees in, which you did several times (nice knee flying though). Visualize a glory-hole if you must but keep those hips forward. Chin-up, don't look down or grab the net (it's not going anywhere), push hips forward, resist temptation to drop knees (it causes instability), and remember the more you extend your arms the more you need to extend your legs to off-set the drive... legs out goes forward, arms out goes back, a little of both and you're hovering. Once you master sitting still then worry about turns IMO but on a positive note they looked pretty good. Relax those arms... your arch provides the stability.
  13. this sounds like a private conversation you need to take offline NSCR-2376, SCR-15080
  14. I hear people say this a lot but under pressure muscle memory wins and they almost always go for their main handle. NSCR-2376, SCR-15080

  16. congrats, now go jump! NSCR-2376, SCR-15080
  17. people do seem a lot more uptight now... I was grabbed and spun/tossed by an instructor on my coach jumps before I even had my A. I was concerned for a moment until I realized he just wanted me to relax and have some fun on the bottom half of the RW jump.
  18. nice, never even seen one of those parked before... NSCR-2376, SCR-15080
  19. I think the idea your container is too large is all in your head. Honestly, doing RW I don't even notice mine and it's sized for a 135/150 main and similar reserve... and you have around 20lbs on me probably. Based on bonfire discussions, etc I'd go with an Xfire2 up at those loadings but if you aren't swooping why not just stick with a 135 and an Optimum in a right-sized container? Nitrons fly great straight in (and swoop nice) but I don't know what happens to them when you load the crap out of them. Max weight is listed as 210 for a 120 anyway... a 135 would probably work well and they open great... better than a Sabre 2 at least. NSCR-2376, SCR-15080
  20. I'm stumped, what's a C-boo? I already have hearing loss associated with the first two and I'm going for the trifecta! NSCR-2376, SCR-15080
  21. a top mount GoPro on a G3 seems like a lot less of a concern than my old open-face Rawa with a side-mount DV camera and ring-sight that I used to jump back in the day... everyone who jumps a camera accepts some additional degree of risk... it goes with the territory... personally I ditch my RSL when I'm flying a camera so there's extra risk right there on top of the potential camera snags... I use nylon fasteners for the ring-sight though so that's getting torn off if a line hits it the only people I really even saw with cutaway systems for chin-straps were the ones that had really big flat top camera rigs with double cameras for competition jumps in case one failed or big DSLRs with heavy glass with all the cameras on the DZ, I don't even bother to jump one anymore, I just grab other people's videos at the end of the day and focus on flying now if you're worried about people pulling your reserve handle with a camera get slim soft ones like the freeflyers do... at some point you're just trading one set of risks for another though... there are a bunch of variables that you really can't control on any particular jump, I had a new jumper literally punch me in the face recently on exit, I don't think she even noticed... NSCR-2376, SCR-15080
  22. someone needs to post a video reply in the comments section of them cracking open a beer at 3k under a canopy with line twists, chugging it, then kicking out... because that's about how much time you have... NSCR-2376, SCR-15080
  23. what could possibly go wrong? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=am8uTvhv48o it's all fun and games until you're trying to give someone CPR while floating in the water... NSCR-2376, SCR-15080
