  8. Isn't it part of the warplan for NK to capture fuel stocks during the initial phase of an invasion. Since you are there, what is the pulse of the populace on taking action/inaction? Yep, that's probably their plan. It would be a mix of capturing fuel vs. having no air support to protect that moving vehicle(s). The news over here played it up for about 24 hours of nonstop news/TV. Most of my friends are taking a wait and see attitude. This isn't the first time or even the biggest loss of life. It's just the biggest one recently. ____________________________________ I'm back in the USA!!
  9. But there are also those that have 500-600 jumps and 4-5 reserve rides. Or 1350 with 10 reserve rides - O.K. 10 malfucntions and 9 reserve rides. BASE rigs don't come with a shiny handle. :) ____________________________________ I'm back in the USA!!
  10. Hey Guys, I've lived here in S.Korea for 8.5 years. I'm 9 years ex-army and have some contacts here. First - There's no doubt over here who would win a serious throw down. Second - S.K. and U.S. have absolute air superiority over N.K. and China as well (if it comes to Chinese involvement). Third - N.K. can only count on about 2 days of fuel for any troop movements until anything moving on the ground is destroyed. Fourth - U.S. forces are mainly station in Japan/Okinawa which is just a hop, skip and a jump by air and a day or two by sea. Finally - N.K. Nukes are really pretty but are too big to be mounted on anything to get from there to anywhere, etc. Downside - 1. - As mentioned above, Seoul would become a smoking ruin from the artillery. 2. - Possible Chinese ground troop intervention. 3. - Seoul and its surrounding cities are home to over 25% of the population. :( Just an FYI - we now resume your regularly scheduled stuff ____________________________________ I'm back in the USA!!
  11. On my first jump on a racer in '84 I had a floating pud with a semi-low pull. The very next jump, same thing happened again!! Fortunately, my buddy taught me the way to trace the bottom of the flap to the bridle. I've only jumped a pud once since then. Nice thing about going low on a racer, you're not distracted by actually "looking" for anything. You can just look at the ground until you're scared enough to pull your reserve. 12. Hi Dave, That's an old coors team canopy from the middle '80s. I used to have one. I bought it used for $100. I landed fine. I think it was a Mike Fury canopy. Wild... something I think. I left mine in Minnesota when I moved to Korea. Maybe this is the one. I told my roommate to just give it away! That was 8.5 years ago! ____________________________________ I'm back in the USA!!
  13. ------------------------------------------- Hey Wendy, you read my mind. I lived with my uncle during summer of '80 about a mile down the street from Hearne airport. I remember seeing the chutes on weekends there. My Uncle was surprised that my 17 year old butt didn't demand a jump!! :) So, what about Hearne Field? ____________________________________ I'm back in the USA!!
  14. ------------------------------------------------------- Uhmmm, what is SC? I read what she said and didn't find anything offensive there. Enlightenment please... ____________________________________ I'm back in the USA!!

  16. Can't use deadly force to protect property. Period. That isn't a new law or a new interpretation of one. It varies by state. Defending property in Texas is quite different. ____________________________________ I'm back in the USA!!

  19. Congrats! I heard a funny one years ago about "Riggers." We used to call them Riggers. Then we changed that to "Regro." Now you are officially a "Man of parachutes" or a "Parachute packing American!" Stay safe! ____________________________________ I'm back in the USA!!

  21. Well, my ex-wife was Hungarian. Unfortunately, she hated my skydiving. Do a broader search, skydiving and BASE jumping are alive and well in Hungary! Good luck! ----------------------------------------------------- Oh, sorry! Try a search based on Lew Sanborn and that guy from France, Jacque Estelle (SP?). Throw in the word Pond and a few others I have forgotten (drunk at the moment). ____________________________________ I'm back in the USA!!

  23. Nice piece Nick. I'm a former paperboy myself. Houston Chronicle - weekday evenings and weekend mornings. During summers I graduated to mowing lawns in '74 When I was 11, my father paid me $2 for the front yard and $2.25 for the back. Mowing and edging took over 2 hours every other Saturday. One Saturday, I complained to him that we had one of the biggest yards in the neighborhood and I was woefully underpaid! My friends would get $10-15 for a yard our size! I have a feeling now that my father was waiting for this moment. He smiled and handed me $4.25 and said, "So? Here's your $4.25 and there's the gas can. Now, go find one of them $10.00 yards." With $4.25 to buy gas, I found that $10.00 yard and many more like it. I earned more money than any kid my age should have! That lesson has carried forward to my own Kids. Thanks, NIck, for the stroll down memory lane! ____________________________________ I'm back in the USA!!
  24. I'd be concerned about the cat using my computer while I was gone. Better search the HD for kitty porn. She already posted some porn shots on the internet, and she was underage at the time Wow! She's sexy. ____________________________________ I'm back in the USA!!
  25. I understand how he feels. I've lived in S.Korea for over 8 years and, cultural quirks aside, I really enjoy it. Over here, there are problems. But they pale in comparison to the US if you believe everything on the net and in the papers. (Which I don't BTW) That said, people here are still lining up to move to any English speaking county they can get into. Secondary choice is any other European country. So, +'s and -'s calculated, most of the world would move to the States in a heartbeat. Except me, that is. ____________________________________ I'm back in the USA!!
