From who? What companies offer this? Do you have some? Fill us in on where to get it. Also, where does the line get drawn for "fringe" activities? Ice-climbing and backcountry touring is pretty fringe to the average shmuck. SabreDave

First off, you are in the States so what do you care about what happens up here? Second, the SAR-Techs are spending the money training if they are not flying/doing missions. They were quite jacked to use their skills and training for a real night mountain rescue. AS they say, "they are tired of plucking people off of boats." From health care to rescue to air ambulance.... It is all set up different here than down there so unless U get the whole picture it's tough to take what U say as an informed opinion. SabreDave

If you have been following this forum you should have realized by now that filling in your profile will help (a little) in giving you SOME credibility. I have always found it hard to take someone seriously if they can't even bother to sign posts by their REAL name and fill in some info on their profile. AS for your complaints, I would say 704 has a good point but since he doesn't have a name either...well you get the picture What can I contribute?? Considering my low number of jumps I have a quite a few running exits. I never pace it out and while watching those that do...... not many actually hit it that way. I practiced them over and over off the 5 metre tower at the pool and still do occasionally. Tom's right on the head high thing for sure. I think pacing messes up the average person. It is not too likely you will blow it and miss your footing because you know if it wasn't a BASE jump you could easily do it. Start small 2-3 steps working up from there. SabreDave

Since I don't know how close these guys were, how they came to agree on such a pact if there was one or how it really went down I'll just throw down my thoughts on this as a hypothetical situation. The whole pact thing to me is a little nutz but if these guys really truly believe in this little contract then whatevs, that is their business as far as I am concerned. If they really left him lying there for the coyotes and told no one the location of the body As Soon As Fucking Possible that is really beyond disgusting and Karma is a bitch! I feel happy knowing that myself and the people I choose to jump with don't need such pacts because nobody would ever get left behind no matter what.....NOT EVER! SabreDave

Now, as much as a size or so bigger would be nice I currently jumpa Troll MDV 305. I am hovering around 240 lbs in the buff! (down Jaap, I am still straight!) I do wear armour and have a had a couple of hard-ish landings but generally I am very happy with the way it performs for me even at moderate elevations ASL like 4000ft. + If it requires really sinking it in I am in PLF mode before I exit. Spain is only a short flight away and probably not too expensive!! Or, just start BASE jumping. BASE jumping in the snow is a fuckload'o'fun! Or make some fun! I live next to the Rockies in western Canada so I know plenty about closed DZ's and winter. BAckcountry skiing, ice-climbing, ski BASE, paragliding etc etc...............lots to do and keep flying. So....what was the status on the rescue? Did they charge ya for it or were they just "happy to oblige" like real super heros? THat jump is sweeeet but scary as Jaap more or less said. The day we jumped it I stood up on that bitch forever until it was dark enough to not be as scary anymore. The winds were perfect and finally blew the sand out of my vagina so I hucked-stable.
