  1. These are my regular BASE, hiking, scrambling, backpacking and everyday boots. Comfy, good support and not too expensive. http://www.raichle.ch/raichle/katalog.asp?view=detail&did=64&dart=4&tid=3480&sid=2 When the landing area is pure shite and full of rocks and other nasty things I bust out these bad boys. http://www.koflach.com/products.html go to this page and select "Degre" boot. They are ultra comfy even on long hikes and provide excellent protection all around. The downside to both of these is the need to tape up the hooks! I know the Hanwags don't have hooks on them which is a minor advantage. SabreDave
  2. I have only had the chance to fly one big BASE canopy and that's mine(insert grain if salt HERE). Everyone else around here are narrow assed people with small canopies so I can only tell you what I think of my Troll 305 MDV(my loading is .81). I have zero complaints about this canopy. I bought it new and have put about 41 jumps on it. Once I learned some packing techniques (thanks Douggs) I got the openings to be very acceptable at terminal. At first I was getting spanked when I went to NOrway. I have done static lines from 165 feet and a few slider down jumps in the 1-2 second range. Again, no complaints. Pressurizes fast, have had great heading performance to date and I love the way it flies! If I am dropping straight down in deep brakes all the way, the landing can be a bit hard but I think any BASE canopy loaded that much will be similar!?!? The flare is great and I have on occasion got some sweet surf out of it when landing conditions and area permit. I have also found that it flies quite well and is very controllable when stalling and flying backwards on risers. So, that is my newbie experience with the TROLL. I LIKE IT! SabreDave
  3. Bring a climbing harness! SabreDave
  4. Do you still need inspiration? I seem to recall an incident last Tuesday that proved you finally got the sand out of your vagina... Well, I will start a new thread this weekend and tell a story since there is one to tell...........sand and all. Stay tuned................. SabreDave
  5. Can someone please tell me who does the song in the teaser?!? Thanks in advance! PS- Some seriously SICK and beautiful flying.......thanks for the inspiration! SabreDave
  6. Sweeeet.....thanks dude! SabreDave
  7. Hey ya'll So, I am posting this in BASE forums because it directly concerns BASE jumping. Many un jumped walls. We have an area close to Calgary that is unreal as far as camping, exploring, rock climbing, Ice-climbing, mixed climbing and of course our beloved BASE. The bigger the group the more power "we" have. There is an online petition to try to stop proposed access changes to this area. It is a perfectly legal (for now) BASE area and it is in everyone's interest to keep it this way. Access anywhere is a model of what can happen elsewhere! This petition has been started by the local climbing population to which I loosely belong. If anyone who agrees with free access can take the time and sign it at the least and maybe leave some commensts that would be great. Not trying to come out screaming BASE BASE BASE but just the whole access and freedfom to enjoy for all! http://www.calgarymountainclub.com/petition.htm[url] Thanks................ Edit..tried to make it clicky!! Why isn't the damn thing clicky?? Jaap!!! Fix it bro!!! SabreDave
  8. Fair enough but they are not rated though correct?! I have inspected those helmets and they seemed to be short on material to absorb shock with!? Can we agree there are some skydiving helmets that suck? I am glad it saved your ass and of course any lid is better than nothing for sure. I am biased I'm sure after watching a friend hit the ground (soft dirt field) and his expensive "skydiving helmet" didn't do alot for him all things considered (he died). I guess that was the point I started really looking at helmets and their construction and comparing it to that of rated, mass produced helmets. What I found was "SOME" products that seemed totally crap in their construction. Phewww, that's it for now
  9. I have a full face downhill mountain biking helmet for jumps that have more potential for bad landings or strikes. Otherwise I use a Giro ski racing helmet. I use it for skydiving, BASE and funny enough, skiing! My personal thoughts on factory divers and the such is that they are more or less useless. They cost a bunch of money and supply little protection to the melon. I have seen people jump with a Gath helmet. Those things do little more than keep the soupy bit contained....maybe. NOne of the skydiving helmets that I have seen are rated to any kind of crash worthiness standard. Please correct me if I'm wrong!?! The point of a lid is to offer good and solid protection in the event of an impact. Get a good helmet with a crash rating! My opinion.... SabreDave
  10. Been there twice in the last year, the Norgi's told me it was more like 736 said. SabreDave
  11. Hey ya'll Looking for a jumper named Eldon (sp?) from Washington state I believe. Him and his girlfriend shot some video and stills of myself and 2 others jumping a popular 180 foot bridge near Vancouver BC back in the spring...maybe even winter time, can't find my log book to figure it out. If anyone knows him please ask him to contact me or hook me up with his email!!

  16. Dude..... you and I (and many others) know that Chris was an exception among mortals!! He was gifted and does not represent the "average" learning curve! NO way, no how.......... edited to add... Chris grew up flying from the moment of self-awareness, his dad (Willi) was already a legend in the flying community SabreDave
  17. Dude..............yup, that's the one. Side shot, quad gainer...yo. K, no worries... Did very much like the editing of RAdix! Regardless of politics and rails etc.......edited nicely and that's what interests me. PM sent Yo SabreDave
  18. Hey Jimmy, Exactly a year ago + a few days I gave U some footage when I saw you in Lysebotn. regrets?

My very wise friend (587) told me something a couple of years ago when I was getting started that has rung true...........BASE will take you to your highest highs and your lowest lows. Ying and Yang! NO regrets! BASE is groovalicious!! SabreDave
  22. Shallow brakes sounds like a good idea to me. SabreDave
  23. Or try this..... I have a Sabre 230, it used to spank me way back when. Once, I had huge structural failure form a hard opening. After PD rebuilt it I changed my packing methods. Of course, it is important to make sure the slider is "clover-leafed" and roll that nose up! I roll the 4 cells on each side about 11 or 12 times tightly and place them inside the centre cell a good 6-8 inches. It works great....... Also, big and tight locking stows (obviously not too tight). SabreDave
  24. BenHAll said-"Vandev, unwad your panties. ABP made it clear that the primary focus is US national parks and that worldwide efforts come only after all of the local issues have been resolved. In addition, so far the worldwide definition only includes Canada and Australia so your precious Europe is safe. " As a Canadian jumper, speaking for myself, I would be overjoyed if Canada was taken off the list! If the first goal is sorting out the US...great, please stop south of the 49th Parallel. Things are ok here, we don't need to be liberated...thanks. SabreDave
  25. Yeah, the tertiary makes it so you are following the rules (in Canada) and let's you jump your shit! Perfect wouldn't you say? I mean, not like you are depending on it, mostly there for show. I trust my BASE gear on both terminal and sub-terminal so why not skydiving? My thoughts......... file'em where you like SabreDave
