4/24/2006: I have it on good authority that there were three arrests made at BCOG in the last 24 hours. Advising to lay low on it for awhile, and any out of towners to Colorado planning on coming here to jump contact CO locals to get more information before you plan any extra-curricular jumps around the state. The jumpers in question are all very experienced, technical jumpers all of whom have solid BASE ethics, and more than enough skill and knowledge to have pulled the mission off. All have multiple jumps from the object, and they used the method currently accepted as the most responsible, "leave no trace" method (sunrise exit), using additional ground crew as well. All rigs were confiscated pending further notice. Word from "the man" is that they're "after BASE jumpers this year with a vengeance", due to some less-than-good judgement exercised by (ummm, large?) groups of jumpers near the end of the '05 season. I'll put it this way; the word "swarm" was used when describing the arrest by one of the jumpers. Please stay away from this (and any surrounding) cliffs until further notice. Info will be posted as it becomes available. Easy on the questions--I'm just the messenger. pope

Just a reminder. I'll be in Moab--where will YOU be? cheers, pope

maybe so, but posting on DZ.COM is free, and editing that video is not. (but the footage will all be online within a month or two.) pope

I'll be in Moab for the Apr 22 comp, but the rest sound great! I was so bummed to miss out on all of those CPC comps with you guys last year--I'm looking forward to doing it again this season! That shit's a lot of fun! And those were all over hard earth without the sweet MHSC POND! We'll see y'all out there! pope

Matt--you can thank me and all of us by hitting the PT hard (I have no doubt you will) and getting back out here with us ASAP! (and yes, the account IS still set up at www.triaxproductions.com. see you within a week bro! pope

I agree with your diagnosis Dr. Thrill. A very well done production! pope

Better than HDV, for sure. It's at LEAST HD quality if not better.

scott- you have the total right Idea. digital still camera, laptop or intervalometer, and a capture program on the laptop is the way to go. btw--nice transition with the cupboard door. makes a boring subject a little more interesting! PS: next time go to a movie and hire a maid. pope

As a professional videographer, my point of view is more like we're shooting ourselves in the foot by NOT giving people a T1 video. Let's be honest...most Tandems don't/won't ever want to do this again, and want to show their peeps that they "did it." -
I don't think those objects have been jumped yet. You're probably thinking of these cliffs.

Apple makes fine products and although I can't speak for the macBook/Intel bit, have to say that there are a thousand reasons why that could have happened. The machine you mentioned does sound a bit deficient in the RAM sector, although you have to consider the biggest producers of this type of 'glitch' is the original format the footy was shot in, the method/equipment/settings it was captured in, and the same for its encoding. Bad 24p and/or PAL conversions to a 29.97 editing timebase will sometimes produce results like you are talking about also. you won't be sorry, IMHO pope

I just wanted to remind people on this thread that there has been a place on the web set up to help support Matt and his family. There are places here to send an email, a card, or donate to his family. Again--our brother is not out of the woods just yet--we need to support each other during these times! Keep up the fight Matt! pope -
. . .and a bit of wake turbulence. pope

You can get plenty of used BASE specific canopies for a decent price. Why not jump those? Personally, I have jumps on both types, and my recommendation is to jump as many different types of big squares as you can. It will help you be able to tell subtle differences in canopies later on. I say get a fury, a raven, and a couple of BASE specifics (y'know, you can borrow or [ugh] rent this stuff too) and put 50+ jumps on all of them in various conditions. And take a good canopy course...even if you think you don't need to. Basic principles apply to BASE canopies too. cheers, pope

are you talking about the INTRO to the tandem video, or a LEADER that is played before the actual video begins? IMHO, If you're talking about a LEADER, no more than a minute. For the INTRO, probably about 2. pope

You need to be working in Final Cut. I movie is cool for some things occasionally, or to crank out mass number (read: TANDEM edits), but FCP5 is where it's at IMHO. pope

Yeah, there's something a bit un-nerving to finally get a chance to talk to my bro and he wants to talk about my "man-package!" It was great to hear your voice again brother...even if you were talking about my junk. Until then, pope -
bump-- still interested in ANY media... I'm waiting on media from a couple more sources and then the edit can begin... anyone?
