  1. Hi Bill, You' re beginning to find out why. JerryBaumchen
  2. Hi John, Youngster. My only true memory of those days was in the summer of '54 when Roger Bannister broke the 4-minute mile. That made headlines. JerryBaumchen PS) The summer of '54 is when I bought my first motor vehicle, I was mobile then; lookout world.
  3. Hi John, My old physics instructor, Prof. Klump ( bless his heart ), used to tell us that when he thought of all the engineering students that he had, he slowed down everytime he came to a bridge. JerryBaumchen PS) Engineering is not for everyone; as in any occupation. Mine gave me a good life ( I travelled all over North America, South America, Asia & Europe on projects ), put two kids through college & has provided me with a decent retirement.
  4. Hi pat, This photo is over 40 yrs old, that is why it is so faided. This me on final over Antioch in spring '71 at a competition. JerryBaumchen
  5. Hi John, Re: Western Cwm Help a guy will ya: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Western_Cwm That is a new one to me; a sheltered life I guess, JerryBaumchen
  6. Hi ryoder, Re: 'at Purdue' Well, you see Purdue has this reputation that they like to uphold. I remember the dean, to a group of newbie engr-wannabees, 'See the person to your left, see the person to your right; they won't be here in two years.' That was always my goal, to be there in those two years. IMO the pay is rather good, not great. The unemployment is great, usually one of the lowest of all professions. The female engineers at those other desks, 'Hey, Shah, where are you when I need you?' JerryBaumchen
  7. Hi out there, Probably for the guys: Playboy puts 57 years of articles, nudity online http://www.cnn.com/2011/TECH/web/05/20/playboy.issues.online/index.html?hpt=T2 "The long list of celebrities who have posed nude for Playboy include Bo Derek, Pamela Anderson, Farrah Fawcett and Sharon Stone." Ahhh, memories of my youth. JerryBaumchen
  8. Hi Shah, This one is sorta for you ( ); and anyone else who might be interested. The two female engineers might not be a size 8 but they look pretty good. http://www.cnn.com/2011/US/05/17/education.stem.graduation/index.html?hpt=C1 JerryBaumchen Mech Engr
  9. Hi Jim, 'Back in the day' the jumpmasters at Issaquah only wore pilot rigs because they were so busy. In the mid-70's Issaquah, one weekend did 144 S/L firsters; no tandem in those days. So you think. JerryBaumchen
  10. Hi Nat, It is quite obvious that he has never gone through Basic Training. Anyone who takes that long will get his A$$ kicked. JerryBaumchen
  11. Hi Flyer, As with all grown children, you really do not want to know what your parents are doing. JerryBaumchen
  12. Hi bill, Does it say HERS on it? Look for the one that says HIS, you'll be just fine. JerryBaumchen PS) It has to be better than one of those 'slot' toilets that are so prevalent in Asia. Just try using one of those puppies when you've had a couple of drinks in you. BTDT.
  13. Hi Terry, Re: Online search database updated! Who says you can't beat city hall. JerryBaumchen
  14. Hi Paul, If one would want to hedge their bet they should get to the eastern edge of a time zone, watch what is happening on the other side. If you see people disappearing, grab your bible. JerryBaumchen
  15. Hi shrop, Quite a few years ago Andy Rooney ( who is an occasional commentator on the American tv show '60 Minutes' ) listed his 10 greatest inventions of the 20th century. The two that I remember are the paper clip & the garage door opener. He might have also said the tv remote control but I am not sure on that one. I did a Google search and could not find his list. Anyone remember the rest of them? JerryBaumchen PS) That concrete building is pretty cool for a 'getter done now' type of thingy.
  16. Hi nigel, A guy in the service used to say: "I'd eat a mile of her shit just to see where it came from." JerryBaumchen
  17. Hi wayne, And it all started right here in good old PDX. JerryBaumchen
  18. Hi woman, That story reminds me of a test I did many moons ago. I was in college ( I'm a Mech Engr ) and had a part-time job in the test lab at Freightliner Corp ( a large truck mfr that was located here in Portland, OR ). At that time we were buying seatbelts and just installing them in the cabs of the trucks. Then one day the Chief Engr thought that maybe we should know if the installation was any good or not. At that time, seatbelts were rated at 2,000 lbs. So I went & got an entire floor pan for a truck and rigged up a testing apparatus and started testing seatbelts. The results were that they broke on an average of 4,200 lbs and that, in every case, the webbing had been cut at least 2/3's by the seatbelt hardware. The hardware that cut the webbing was almost identical to the 500 lb chest strap adaptor found on most skydiving rigs. Our installation of those seatbelts was just fine; I never had one test in which the attachment ripped out of the floor pan. Just some info for those that might care . . . JerryBaumchen
  19. HI Marko, I voted All of the Time, 100% or however you named it. Why did I choose to vote that way? Because I can; I am alive twice over because I had my seatbelt(s) done up. JerryBaumchen
  20. Hi captain, I'm not trying to get into an argument but how do you know this? There was in incident a few years ago in this area with a GM and, upon inquiry, USPA told me that GM's were not req'd to file reports of incidents. This particular incident was a low opening - AAD fire - two out - downplane - both people injured; guess who got injured the worst. Just wondering . . . JerryBaumchen
  21. Hi rehmwa, When I was in the military I often worked in the Orderly Room keeping all of the regs & manuals up to date. I used to read them to see what was what. They actually had a reg that said you were allowed to use no more than seven squares for a #2. JerryBaumchen
  22. Hi Kris, And should you ever have a daughter I bet you become somewhat more conservative. JerryBaumchen PS) SkyMoms, have you ever known me to break a rule?
  23. Hi out there, NSFW & the guys will like this one the most: http://www.imdb.com/video/wab/vi2435187481 JerryBaumchen
  24. Hi Douglas, Not too long ago, due to excessive bad behavior, the NBA did a comprehensive study to see what would work with their basketball players: Fine vs Suspension Overwhelmingly, it was the suspension that worked. For the $$$, they merely paid it up & it had little to no effect on them. IMO most jumpers faced with a fine would just toss the $20 bill in & keep on doing what they were doing. Just something to think about . . . JerryBaumchen
  25. Hi Nova, They first only came in Sage Green. Then they offered a Navy Blue also. This one that I have was made for the '74 US Team; I got it from Mick Bevens who was a member. JerryBaumchen PS) And steve1: With your memory, welcome to the old-timers club.
