  1. This is a typical of you: a knee jerk defensive reaction without a ton of thought and a demand that your correspondent go do some homework. You know damn well that I don't think "Mexican is multi-cultural". Your technique is getting old.
  2. You've spent your life in Canada and that's your multicultural credential? Maybe I should have never left East San Jose, hell, I could have been Mexican by now.
  3. The population density per square mile in California is 253. In Oklahoma it is 58. Also, maybe you can't catch it from a cousin.
  4. Agreed. Essentially they argued that they had no idea what they were there for.

You aren't an actual country? Inquiring minds, you know. Maybe Canada ought to be throwing a lot more money at their military and health care R&D so that when pandemics happen they aren't standing in line for hand outs like Burundi. Harsh? Yes. You argue that our health care system is a joke, which it is, when your own has terrible defects. The reality is that like Scarlett O'hara, Canada relies heavily on the kindness of strangers.
  6. A double misdirection with a curlicue curve, you da' man!
  7. No apologies necessary. Really, if you are going to play here you'll need to get used to being unfair, ignoring nuance, and taking things out of context, too. Feel free to practice on me. When you get good, subject to the usual disputations here, I'll help you find someone more deserving.
  8. There is another more accurate definition that I'll leave to lippy. I'm already close to a ban thanks to you. Look, you live in your white christian enclave at the roads end. Given that you don't believe in the rest of the world why not just unplug your modem and live out your remaining day's in peace, fulfilled and reinforced by the world around you?
  9. Look at you! We haven't had anyone this excited at the arrival of their champion since jaybird swooped in to save Ron on fine day.
  10. Maybe because they didn't wake up on morning 1 in America expecting it with every fibre in their bodies and every neuron in their brains? Maybe because they don't see every last other member of their families expecting the same thing as well as every last other person in their neighborhood? Maybe because they caught a break from folks because they were different in an acceptable way. If we truly are the least racist place on the planet, which for the sake of argument I'll concede even though I might vote for Bangkok, it doesn't mean we shouldn't be doing better. To do better we'll need to address the conditions on the ground here and now not, necessarily the conditions on the ground in Doha or Lagos.
  11. You'd be better quoting from Les Miserables: I had a dream my life would be So different from this hell I'm living So different now from what it seemed Now life has killed the dream, I dreamed
  12. Not a mystery at all. Often as not they are folks who cleave unto structure in their lives. Many find that in the military or even high school sports. They love community. That is to say the street they live on with like minded and like looking folks. Backyard BBQ's and kids all playing together reinforce what seems right. Lot's of back patting and got your backing double enforced by a generation or two and voila! It's a tough nut to crack, no doubt.
  13. Like Black Swans, there was no Dark Matter or Dark Energy until there was and now the skies are filled with both.
  14. What a day and what a jump. Truly a career highlight and a huge gift to us all from B.J. Worth. Theresa and I are the last two on the end of the right hand blue whacker, Roger Ponce's team. Thanks Bill, big smiles.
  15. I only checked the gamecast on ESPN went to sleep at halftime. I need to get up early. Usually at 1, 3 and 5am to take a leak.
  16. Here's another timeline: Brent bloviates. Brent gets called on it and is asked for data. Brent supplies something from somewhere about something. Brent gets reminded that the data needs to be the requested data, in this case an actual EIS as initially referenced. Brent then...........
  17. I'm not sure the 15 year later picture would be identical but you are right, I'm not old. Funny how much easier it is to say that when you have a few years behind you. Thanks for the memory. Those were some fun times.
  18. If you want to post the EIS I'll read it and be amazed. Are you sure it wasn't a memo or internal something or other.
  19. What the holy hell does that have to do with environmental impact? My, let's not stop spraying DDT because they will keep on doing it somewhere else?
  20. In some ways Keystone is it's own animal. The oil it will transport isn't the most environmentally friendly goop, compared to West Texas Intermediate, for example. If we need more oil that bad I'd actually be for more fracking instead. The pipeline jobs in the US are transitory, at best. And, with great respect for our Canadian partners, I don't think the tar sands oil industry is all that stable. I base that on my own experience leasing PT6-65B and -67D engines to support maintenance for the Beech 1900's that haul workers to the fields. I noticed that it didn't take much of a hiccup before maintenance was deferred and aircraft were sold off. I picked up a nice Caravan that way. Also, it seems logical to me that when oil is needed less products like tar sands oil would, or should, be the first to go. So from my perch it just wasn't a great decision.
  21. Trucks are like dogs, as long as they aren't making noise they make you happy. They come and go bringing food and Christmas to everywhere spreading joy. Pipelines are like kids. Once you have one you are stuck with it for a very long time even when it causes expensive problems and turns you into the neighborhood jerk. And try as you might, you can't get rid of the thing even if you don't want a pipeline anymore. So you just get sadder and sadder wishing you were better at making decisions. Hope that helps.
