    covid-19

From CNN :- After meeting the heads of pharmaceutical companies, Trump said: "I've asked them to contact London immediately." "They speak a language that most people don't even understand, but I understand something, that they've really advanced therapeutics and therapeutically, and they have arrived in London already," Trump said. "We've contacted all of Boris' doctors, and we'll see what is going to take place, but they are ready to go."

My son, who is an MD in Ireland , has also tested positive. He is only 29 and very fit , so hopefully he should recover quickly.
  6. There are still so many unknowns give how 'new' this virus is. Infections disease specialist Professor David Heymann, who is chairing a WHO panel, says:- "We don't know yet in the new coronavirus that causes COVID-19 whether or not that coronavirus does cause long-lasting immunity and therefore we can't make too many assumptions,"
  7. Down here in South Africa we are going into full lock down at midnight tonight. Only essential services allowed out. One will not even be allowed to walk the dog. This is under pain of jail time and will be enforced by both police and Defence force.

That is always going to be the case. Just consider how far behind the US is in testing, compared to other 'high-risk' countries such as South Korea. Once the US starts testing larger volumes of suspected cases, it just follows that larger numbers will test positive.
  9. Or as CCN calls it:- "Restocking the swamp"....
  10. You don't get more defiant than Trump....
  11. Impressive performance by young Gretha at Davos. No theatrics, very measured and well delivered address, I thought. https://edition.cnn.com/videos/business/2020/01/21/trump-greta-thunberg-climate-davos-lon-orig.cnn-business/video/playlists/business-davos/
  12. Indeed. She spoke 'an inconvenient truth'.....
  13. And no doubt Trump will exploit that to the hilt, claiming that he was exonerated and that he was innocent all along. NO quid pro quo!
  14. And no doubt some were men. This is not really germain to this thread, but I have spent the last 40-ish years in the software development industry and at the level at which I operate, the genders are very evenly balanced. Over the years I have encountered as many male duds as female duds, and as many female stars as male stars. This is the goal to pursue.
  15. Attempts to explain away Trump's impolitic and ill-informed comments have become de rigeur among Republicans in Washington. But when we try to fit stuff Trump says into some sort of broader historical or political context and framework, we overlook the truth that is staring us in the face: He often has no idea what he is talking about. https://edition.cnn.com/2019/10/16/politics/donald-trump-syria-kurds/index.html Watch the video and shake your head in disbelief.
  16. Having been an instructor in the army, a skydiver and being a keen fisherman, I assure you I can curse with the best/worst of them. My original comment was aimed specifically at the use of profanity on the back cover of a book. That was all.
  17. <Quote> "As for what Erroll said, he's right. While I often find it to be a useful word, not everyone appreciates the word fuck. Using it on the back cover description might drive away potential buyers. </Quote> <Quote>"Pity you needed to resort to obscenities to sound cool.</Quote>
  18. "Mitt Romney never knew how to win. He is a pompous 'ass' ..." https://edition.cnn.com/2019/10/04/politics/romney-trump-china-ukraine-rebuke/index.html
  19. Indeed. Pity you needed to resort to obscenities to sound cool.
  20. The serial spammer in the DB Cooper thread has now started posting disgusting pictures and one has no warning that these will appear - very embarrassing in the workplace. Until he has been neutralised, please consider disabling inline pictures. Asking us to ignore the user is only useful after the fact, and he also creates new user IDs all the time. Perhaps a waiting period before new users are allowed to post inline pictures might alleviate the problem too?
  21. That sums it up very nicely. Hopefully the concept of "anybody but...." has been shown to be disastrous enough for it not to happen again.
