  1. thanks for explaining, thats definitly some food for thought
  2. Yup. And that's why the "kick him, shoot him, bring tar & feathers" goes on. And it WILL go on simply because of the reason you show in the paragraph above. Silly how that works, eh? ok, we are on the same side. but - in my very humble and certainly limited view of things - it starts with the initial training of "TI's". I am very sure that there are I/E's out there, who take their job and the attitude of their students seriously - read who are clear that certain things like handlechecks are here for a reason. others might not hold true of these standards and who are more associated with a laissez faire kind of attitude. heck I could provide you with tons of pictures from my corner of the world showing clear examples of "well I just do it my way no matter what the book says" - but that is another can of worms not limited to the places where I jump. longtime readers of the forums will remember more than one instance where "TI's" performed stunts beyond belief.... so: What do I/E's do to ensure they themselves hold up to a high standard, is there anything like a "quality management/long term evaluation" for i/E's out there, who's controlling it, who's controlling the quality of TI's etc? from what I see in my corner once you've got a rating nobody ever re-evaluates your qualification ever again. do I have a solution? no. would I want more regulation? since I am not living in the states, that question doesn't apply to me (USPA or FAA-wise) but if I were, I guess I'd still say no. Jumping tandem is not easy so there definitly is no easy black/white answer to this The universal aptitude for ineptitude makes any human accomplishment an incredible miracle dudeist skydiver # 666
  3. i guess you missed this sentence: to make it even clearer: handle-checks before and after exit are imperative in my book. can "we" make shure that "we" ourselves never forget about SOP's? No Can "we" make shure every other TI has the same high standard than "we"? No my shot: It all starts with initial training and the tandem-culture lived on each DZ. thats the discussion "we" should have IMO or how serious you are regarding harness adjustments prior to exit like this one The universal aptitude for ineptitude makes any human accomplishment an incredible miracle dudeist skydiver # 666
  4. and once again we've got the classic reaction from dizziedotcom: kick him, shoot him, bring tar & feathers..... hey guys it gets boring pick any random tandemvideo from youtube and look for handle-checks - i dare to say in over 80 percent you won't find them either. so if you promote severe sanctions for all TI's neglecting their SOP's, you won't stop kicking for a long time and you'd have to weed out most of the instructor population don't get me wrong: checking ones shit is essential in tandem business. if you elect to do hand cam well you better come up with a satisfying solution to do decent video and check handles The universal aptitude for ineptitude makes any human accomplishment an incredible miracle dudeist skydiver # 666
  5. several: who are the brain police whats the ugliest part of your body watermelon in easter hay eat that question pyjama people the whole fillmore east album - terrific stuff cheepnis (roxy & elsewhere) you are what you is actually i think zappas earlier work was better than the stuff he did in later years. hated "man from utopia" The universal aptitude for ineptitude makes any human accomplishment an incredible miracle dudeist skydiver # 666
  6. touché???? feeling a bit touchy and fairskinned? you are in the privileged position to get 2000+ jumps from scratch, at least to ratings and a gazillion postings in 6 years - good for you. in most of your posts you're trying to be the rolemodel student for almost everything and you seem to know everything. had you provided all the info in the opening post the whole story would definitly look different. I stand by my words: no style points. over & out. The universal aptitude for ineptitude makes any human accomplishment an incredible miracle dudeist skydiver # 666
  7. just some weeks ago I had the chance to meet helmuth cloth, inventor of the Cypres at the Cypres Aniversary Boogie in CZ - thre he told the audience about his early attempts of finding a manufacturer and presenting his idea on PIA Symposium. long story short: Big companies turned his idea down ("to impractical, standards to high, impossible to make etc...). and when presenting his idea at PIA everbody thaught that his invention was great but - according to his story - he got the advice to leave it more than once. moral of the story. Thanks to his dedication and his funding (he paid most if not all of the R&D out of his own pocket!) skydivers have a reliable backup-device if the brain decides to take a rest The universal aptitude for ineptitude makes any human accomplishment an incredible miracle dudeist skydiver # 666
  8. I just reread the whole thing and I have to say: no style points for DSE so a guy shows up, rents a rig, fucks up and you come over here, post his video without much explanation and wait for peolple to comment/slam/flame whatever. only after that you come out with the whole story. you would have scored much better had you educated the jumper in question on place in time and in a professional way..... bad stylie points for me too because thats my second answer to that fucked up rant of yours. note to self: skip "discussions" like that in the future The universal aptitude for ineptitude makes any human accomplishment an incredible miracle dudeist skydiver # 666
  9. nice try, but this would probably eliminate 1/3 of the u.s. jumping population or put packers out of work doesn't matter what it is - only question is: why did that guy fuck around that long???? I always knew you were a spoilsport: geeking the camera is the only reason for skydiving, isn't it? well since you are the expert on that kind of stuff, I won't comment huh???? 16. That has got to be one of the dumbest things I have seen. Sparky How about THIS? That right there is a shinning example of stupid and unnecessary. If the tandem passenger is a student or relative novice, I agree. But if he/she is a well-experienced, well-skilled skydiver in his/her own right, then it's just another form of skydiving, with a higher risk factor than some are willing to undertake for themselves. as much as I value the majority of your posts I have to call BS on that one. imagine the loop breaking while someone is standing on top of that sigma rig - the only difference is three dead experienced morons instead of two + one passenger The universal aptitude for ineptitude makes any human accomplishment an incredible miracle dudeist skydiver # 666
  17. ok this is not directed at you, just a general note from a strong rated TI and to add to the discussion when the y-mod came out I was pretty pissed because it was the direct result of an instructor fuck-up. would i want to be in his shoes: fuck no! but i wouldn't want to be in ANY instructors shoes who has developed the bad habit of boarding a plane with no harness-adjustment whatsoever and doing his "magic" harness-adjustment-dance in 12.000 ft just a minute before exit either (wonder what these guys would do in an emergency situation....) is the y-mod a fix for a problem that woulnd`t exist if "instructirs" took their job serious? FUCK YEAH! Do i personally like it: no and if i have the coice of gearing up with or without the mod, i go for the old version, because it give the student more fredom of movement (you just can't lift you legs if you tighten the straps...) YMMV do I have to live with it: yes. unfortunatly The universal aptitude for ineptitude makes any human accomplishment an incredible miracle dudeist skydiver # 666
  18. in a sue-happy country like the u.s. i find it hard to believe head protection for tandem passengers are not mandatory, easy enough to bump your head somewhere in the plane... as for helmet or frapp-hat: i wouldn't want to get hit in the face by a hard helmet... The universal aptitude for ineptitude makes any human accomplishment an incredible miracle dudeist skydiver # 666
  19. depending on the mood of the TI and the passengers behaviour it's anything between punter, consumer-terrorist, fun-junkie, complete wast of time, asshat, dead meat cargo or student. hope that helps The universal aptitude for ineptitude makes any human accomplishment an incredible miracle dudeist skydiver # 666
  20. dudeism is also an alternative. and there's even dudeist skydivers out there The universal aptitude for ineptitude makes any human accomplishment an incredible miracle dudeist skydiver # 666
