  2. I say #3. He's pissing off the democrats who are the most liberal. They'll still vote for him in 2012, so he's not really hurting himself much. There are battered women? I've been eating 'em plain all of these years...
  3. Those numbers seem to match those published by several sources, including the National Taxpayers Union. The table is here: http://www.ntu.org/tax-basics/who-pays-income-taxes.html The government doesn't have a revenue problem, it has a spending problem. There are battered women? 4. Grew up in Northern Minnesota. I remember a temperature of about 40 below zero with a wind chill of minus-100. They were telling cars to get off of the highway because if you went into a ditch, you'd freeze to death before someone found you. There are battered women? 9. The headline on Yahoo news today says "Obama signals willingness to compromise." Is this deja vu? Didn't he run on a platform of bipartisanship? That policy lasted right up to the moment he took office. Then it was "damn the republicans (and America), full speed ahead!" I can't decide which of the 50 snarky comments that are in my head is most appropriate, so I'll refrain for now. There are battered women? I've been eating 'em plain all of these years...
  10. Yes, I voted. In fact, since they don't ask for ID (that would disenfranchise voters), I voted 3 times. There are battered women? I've been eating 'em plain all of these years...

  12. The argument that it would raise significant amounts of tax revenue is an interesting one. The Wall Street Journal made an important point in a recent article: Selling marijuana is a federal crime, and the Administration has said they will continue to enforce the drug laws. So how many people are going to admit on their tax returns that they're committing a felony? There are battered women? I've been eating 'em plain all of these years...
  13. I'm single, have my own business, and make over 250K. These tax increases aren't going to affect me. They are going to hurt people who make less than I do. Here's why: Until now, I've paid more thanmy share of taxes (over 40 percent of my AGI, 100K+/year), but with these upcoming increases, I've gone to my CPA, and asked how I can shield myself from the increases. He has a perfectly legal method that I'm going to use. The kicker: I can't hire anyone else. So if I have the need for additional staff, I won't hire -- it would cost me too much. So there you go: I'll actually be saving more money (and paying less tax) next year, but I won't be hiring. Love your explanation; complete with a secret that you won't disclose. The million dollar question: WHAT DID YOU CPA TELL YOU TO SHIELD YOUR INCOME? And for your explanation as to not hire more people; DUH, BECAUSE THEN YOU WOULD MAKE MORE MONEY AND YOU WOULD PAY EVEN MORE TAXES. Hey, here's a clue: FUCKING SPEND MONEY ON COMPANY ASSETS THAT WILL DO 3 THINGS: - write down your AGI - increase the value of your businesss - make your business more profitable So stay hiden behind the veil of secrecy to keep your anti-tax rant seemingly viable, or tell us the general type of your business you're in and what the CPA told you to do in addition to not hiring more. Also, if you don't hire more, your competition will, as in free enmterprise, demand-supply you don't dictate need, the consumer does, so the people you don't hire using your secret reason will be picked up by your competition and they will be smart/ingenious enough to grow their business and hire. I didn't give details for fear of misquoting what my CPA said, and being attacked based on that. I should have known I'd be attacked anyway. So here is the essence of what I'm going to do: I'll set up a special retirement or deferred compensation plan that allows me to put away large amounts of money pre-tax. I currently have a SEP-IRA plan that allow up to 25% of my salary, but with plans like that, you need to pass what the IRS calls "non-discriminatory testing," which basically says that highly-compensated people in the company cannot receive more of a benefit from such a plan than lowly-compensated people. So if I have employees, I have to give them the same thing I get, which I won't do. Say my business puts $150K a year into such a plan for me. That puts my AGI below the limit, so I'll be "middle class" and get the benefit of those tax cuts being retained. I'll defer over $60K in taxes, not be affected by the phase-out of deductions based on income, etc. So for me to hire someone, I'd have to make 100K profit to get $60K after taxes. I've never made that much on my employees. The bottom line is I'll stay a 1-person company, and forget about hiring anyone else. If you need more details, I can give you my CPA's number, and you can pay him $300/hour to explain it to you. There are battered women? I've been eating 'em plain all of these years...

  15. Perris ALWAYS has RW load organizers on the weekends. Hasn't always been the case at Elsinore, but it may have changed. Mel will tell you straight up what she's got going on. Perris usually has more than 1 LO for RW jumpers, and they split the jumpers roughly by skill levels, although Mark always tries to take the pretty women.

  18. I've done nearly 1000 jumps at Elsinore, and 600+ at Perris. Perris definitely has much more going on, and as a student, I think this could be overwhelming. On the other hand, once you get licensed, there are more people to jump with at Perris, and they always have load organizers for both RW and freefly to help you out. Elsinore seems to be more "personal." Id say that you get to know more people easier. I know several of the instructors at both Perris schools and at Elsinore. In my opinion, you'd get the same quality of training at either place. Good luck. There are battered women? I've been eating 'em plain all of these years...

  20. I had C3-4 and C5-6 fused using cadaver bone and titanium plates/screws more than 2 years ago. I woke up from the surgery, and the pain was gone. I had new pain from the surgery, but that went away in a few weeks. Per the doctor's suggestion, I took 6 months off of jumping. He gave me permission to do everything else 6 weeks after surgery. I've been back jumping for 20 months and I've had no problems. I looked into the artificial discs, and talked to my surgeon about them. In my case, they wouldn't do it because I had 2 levels that needed to be fixed. My surgeon was trained to use the artificial discs, but pointed out that fusion is the "gold standard" that has been done for more than 20 years, so they know the long-term effects. These artificial discs are new, and therefore it will be quite some time before they know how they will hold up over time. I'm glad I had the fusion. As far as pain goes, it was bad for a week or so, and I needed Vicodin to sleep for about 3 weeks. I only stayed in the hospital one night, and was sleeping in my own bed the next day. 21. Dan talked about that at the 100-way camp last weekend. He claimed he would NEVER write "OMG," and of course, it was a scam. He even posted a copy of the email on the bulletin board so we could all have a good laugh. There are battered women? I've been eating 'em plain all of these years...
  22. It just shows that the Democrats** don't care what the people want. Just look at Scott Brown in Massachusetts. Many of the Dems who voted for him said they did it because they didn't like the health care bill and thought that ending the super majority in the Senate would stop the bill. But Pelosi knows what's best for us. Of course she'd never vote for such a bill if she had to accept the terms of it. She has her own Cadillac health plan. She thinks they've bought themselves enough reelection votes by paying of the unions, and a few other favored sons, but I doubt it. If this fails to pass the House, I think it will be due to those Democrats wanting to keep their jobs in November and realizing that Obama's stock is sinking, so his endorsement isn't going to mean a lot. **Disclaimer: I'm not making any statement regarding the Republicans. Just an observation about the Dems. There are battered women? I've been eating 'em plain all of these years...
  23. I had a Sabre1, and I now have a Sabre2 and a Storm. I had some trouble at first with off-heading openings, but then I realized that my Storm (loaded at 1.1) was just so forgiving that I got into the habit of dumping before I came out of my track and got good body position. The Sabre2 is loaded at around 1.4, so naturally, it's touchier. If I take the time to slow down and get good body position, the openings are great. PD has a program where they'll send you a canopy to try out before you buy. Give them a call, and jump one for yourself. There are battered women? I've been eating 'em plain all of these years...
  24. I love it: Your score is 1 on a scale of 1 to 10. You are a passionate and unyielding Republican. You remain fiercely dedicated to fighting the twin evils of terrorism and liberalism, and you'd walk across a field of land mines if it meant casting a deciding vote for a Republican president. In your view, there is no higher form of patriotism than defending America against the Democratic Party and every elitist, French-loving, religion-mocking, America-hating, terrorist-appeasing ideal for which it stands. 25. The last time I was called, I was watching the lawyers question potential jurors. The defendant was black, and one of the potential (white) jurors said that he couldn't judge fairly because he was a "recovering racist." He tried to make some lame explanation, hoping to get kicked off the panel. It worked. The judge told him he was excused from that jury, but had to report to the jury room from 8 AM to 4 PM every day for the next week. He then asked if any of the rest of us wanted to get cute (my words, not his.) Nobody said a word. There are battered women? I've been eating 'em plain all of these years...
