  1. Anyone have an informed opinion on this one? http://pesn.com/2005/03/17/6900069_Acetone/ -Rory You be the king and I'll overthrow your government. --KRS-ONE
  2. I've heard rumors a while ago about about PD working on/playing with it. -R You be the king and I'll overthrow your government. --KRS-ONE

  4. Yea but, the cops are exempt from their own laws, haven't you EVER seen any cop movies? -R You be the king and I'll overthrow your government. --KRS-ONE
  5. I second this one, it's something I've been very interested in for quite a while and I would love to have other skydiver's perspective on this related sport. It'd be nice to get a cross-over to paragliding resources and information. -Rory You be the king and I'll overthrow your government. --KRS-ONE
  6. whoa, what happened? -R You be the king and I'll overthrow your government. --KRS-ONE
  7. Isn't the stipulation that if you indeed intend to cut away your main canopy you must be a USPA C license holder as well to do such intentional cut-aways? -R You be the king and I'll overthrow your government. --KRS-ONE

    who dat?

geeez, make it a smaller picture why don't ya'? :P -R You be the king and I'll overthrow your government. --KRS-ONE
  9. I used to live in the area. I was never a big baseball fan but getting drunk at the game is a blast. And all of the restaurants and things to do there may cause your bank account to be bled dry, but you'll have a ton of fun doing it :> Good times! -R You be the king and I'll overthrow your government. --KRS-ONE
  10. I'd be in sandals if the AC weren't turned up so high here... You be the king and I'll overthrow your government. --KRS-ONE
  11. I think it would make more sense that rather than the person be an American Indian, they'd be Scottish or a New Zealander, they're more notorious for their sheepish affections. But we don't want to perpetuate any ethnic stereotypes here... -R You be the king and I'll overthrow your government. --KRS-ONE
  12. I've read all of the above. All most excellent reads. One of the most interesting points I found about Cahill's book is how the Irish monks were at odds with the Catholic church and the church's amassing of political and economic power in Europe during that time. Good stuff. -Rory You be the king and I'll overthrow your government. --KRS-ONE
  13. yea dude, my day off consists of answering my phone :< I can't wait until my boss leaves, then I'll be the only one to answer all the asinine questions this place can generate. -R Geeze I'm getting screwed then. I have'nt worked less then 50 hours in a LONG time, I have to carry my pager every where and I usually get pages 3-6 times a week. When I went to WFFC I had 14 text pages and 8 voice mails on my cell and another 10 on my desk even though both said I was with out phone or email for a week. Plus I'm personally held responcible for making sure that we meet SOX and GLB plus SAS70 and other audits. Each audit item we get hit on means my chances of a riase go down a lot. More then 3 items and I can kiss a bonus good by. Lately we've been running 12-15 items a year and its on shit I have no control over I'm on a personal day today and have gotten 3 calls and a page already and I consider this to be a really light day. 14. Dee, We're not sure where we're sleeping either. I'm going to bring the tent stuff just in case we can't find somewhere to crash at. I dunno if the hotels in the area are back in business. Hopefully we'll figure it out before bed-time tomorrow night :> Kazu said he'll be in on Sunday, Manuel is still rig-less for the moment. -R You be the king and I'll overthrow your government. --KRS-ONE
  15. Early is the key word. I was there in winter a couple of years ago and it does get windy as the day goes on. Jump in the morning, surf in the afternoon, I think that's the schedule there :> -R You be the king and I'll overthrow your government. --KRS-ONE
  16. Dare I ask what you were doing to your tonsils? ;> -R You be the king and I'll overthrow your government. --KRS-ONE
  17. Hmm, honestly I kind of like the idea of a 'beginner' class. I think the '9-cell' should be a misnomer, but the concept should be solidified as a flat-out beginner class. I'm not too versed in the aspects of competition swooping so there may be reasons as to why this wasn't done in the first place. But I think it'd be a nifty thing to draw in more newbie competitors and have them feel less intimidation. -R Hey Dee - sorry babe, not trying to be harsh and certainly don't mean to come off that way. I just want people to think, and I mean REALLY THINK, about why they feel there should be another category. As for next weekend, that's all weather dependent. At this stage there's a good chance I'll be seeing ya Hope you had a good turkey day! Blues, Ian You be the king and I'll overthrow your government. --KRS-ONE
  18. hey nifty, I think that did something. The image didn't really change much with my right-eye closed, but did with my left eye closed. So like, now what can I do with fantastic discovery? ;> -R You be the king and I'll overthrow your government. --KRS-ONE
  19. Dunno, we might make it up there this weekend, but probably not on Friday. -R You be the king and I'll overthrow your government. --KRS-ONE
  20. How does one determine eye dominance? Someone suggested to me once that you hold up a finger and close one eye, then open it, then close the other eye or some such thing. I could make out no difference in the way my finger looked :> -R You be the king and I'll overthrow your government. --KRS-ONE
  21. To be quite honest: I read the first sentence, I read the last sentence...and, uhm, yep. It looked like another Canopy Nazi Diatribe, and well, I've have enough of that already. I'm guessing my reaction isn't that uncommon, especially when you consider how many people would've skipped this thread based upon the topic alone, or no longer frequent this forum due to this same type of thing being reposted again and again. Ranting and raving on this forum about safety and down-sizing, and how people don't listen to YOU is about as effective as, well, I can't think of an effective simile at the moment. Generally what ensues is a big circle-jerk from the peanut gallery here about how you're right-on for preaching safety and lambasting anyone that doesn't follow your safety guidelines to the tee. It's a waste of bandwidth and of people's time as it diminishes the potential effectiveness of this forum to teach and educate. Think about the audience that you really need to reach. How will they receive that which you feel is critical to share? How would you like to have it presented to you? Don't get so caught up in the emotion that you fail to consider that your audience may be perceiving you as just ranting. Listing consequences to potential actions doesn't work. I believe in safety. I believe in being humble. I believe in being open to learning and re-learning things from every person. I don't believe in how it is approached here. Perhaps I'm just cynical, and I'm okay with that :> -R You be the king and I'll overthrow your government. --KRS-ONE
  22. Here's my speculation on one scenario: Perhaps you were still in recovery from an earlier turn when you started your riser dive on to final to get to your set-up point. This would explain why the riser seemed harder to pull...you were already flying fast and had a lot of lift, thereby making the riser nearly impossible to hold down for the additional amount of time to turn 180 degrees. I can not recall with any certainty that I was not already moving quite fast before initiating my turn when I experienced a similar feeling. whatcha think? -R You have a much better way with words. Thing is, I really COULD NOT hold the dive. The best I can explain it is that I started the turn, and about 100 degrees into it the riser started to resist, to actually pull back... I was FORCED to let up on it because I lacked the strength to fight back. First jump of the day, so shouldn't have been tired. I understand people say this is perception, but irregardless of how fast or slow I felt I was turning I was not able to complete that turn due to riser pressure. No other explanations? Thanks for the discussion. Angela. You be the king and I'll overthrow your government. --KRS-ONE
  23. Perhaps it can be restated as: How could it be that you perceived a much higher riser pressure on a very windy day when attempting, say, a 180 degree turn. Understandable that the canopy doesn't know the difference when flying in moving air...but how could your perception of riser pressure change? Is it conceivable that flying on a windy day could have some effect on flight dynamics during riser dives...and not necessarily with gusty winds either? I experienced a similar thing several times, notably on windy days...when riser pressure became very high during a typical dive with the canopy feeling unresponsive and sluggish. -R You be the king and I'll overthrow your government. --KRS-ONE
  24. I wonder if this takes the award for the most and quickest hijacked thread? Anyhow, I thank you for posting this, as, unfortunately, I think it draws far too many parallels to the current state of things in the US. Back to your reguarly hijacked thread -R You be the king and I'll overthrow your government. --KRS-ONE
  25. I haven't met a Sam/Lotus pilot that thinks they are invincible with an airlocked canopy. If it's a shitty day, it's a shitty day for everyone. I hate windy days, especially turbulent days as much as anyone else and I take the same consideration everyone else does when deciding whether or not to go up in sketchy winds. But also, I've never seen a Sam or Lotus accordion or have cells roll-under on a bumpy day like all the other canopies did. Someone did mention to me once that XF2s have a slightly curved under-side due to the airfoil shape that can gain some lift under the right circumstances, causing loss of line tension. Just curious if anyone's noticed anything correlating that. -R You be the king and I'll overthrow your government. --KRS-ONE
