  1. We've already established that the question was directed generally towards adhesives and synthetic materials, not skydiving equipment specifically. Being a rigger, I am quite aware of what the dos and don'ts are concerning modifications (practically and legally), in addition to being legally qualified, there is no need to be The Captain and state the obvious. Again, thank you for your invaluable addition. You be the king and I'll overthrow your government. --KRS-ONE
  2. brilliant reply, by the way, thanks for that addition! I am now two cents richer and none the wiser. WORD! You be the king and I'll overthrow your government. --KRS-ONE
  3. I am my rigger ;> Also, the question more generally directed towards cordura and other similar type synthetics, not specifically to rigs or skydiving equipment. I was looking for an adhesive that would bond well with the synthetic without degrading it or coming off too easily. A glue-gun would work in that you can apply the glue to the patch itself, then press it onto the 'rig', averting any concern with melting the 'rig' fabric with the gun, my only concern would be with any chemical reactions between the glue and the cordura. I can look in to the fusible stuff you mentioned...have any brand names or should looking for 'fusible' be sufficient? thanks, -R You be the king and I'll overthrow your government. --KRS-ONE
  4. So I was thinking about which adhesives would be safe for cordura (or any similar synthetic type material) rigs if someone wanted to apply say...a patch or emblem of some sort. Any recommendations? -R You be the king and I'll overthrow your government. --KRS-ONE
  5. Rob, Kudos to your friends for the stills and videos, much thanks for letting me dub the stuff too. I'd love some of the high-res ones of me. Catch ya at the next event ;> -Rory You be the king and I'll overthrow your government. --KRS-ONE
  6. Well, it wasn't really a stall, it was more like...a pimp-slap from the pond. At that point his canopy was just a big air brake, it happened so fast he didn't even have time to take his hands off of his risers. It was pretty harmless...this time :> -R Watch out for those rear riser stalls. They can be abrupt under especially while making a turn. This jumper is lucky his stall happened over water. Mine last September was over hard ground and it hurt. You be the king and I'll overthrow your government. --KRS-ONE
  7. My instructor swears by the KI brushed canvas gis, they're soft and durable, plus they make a cool cracking sound when he punches. I'll buy one after my two cotton heavyweights get nasty. I think they're about $60 or so? -R You be the king and I'll overthrow your government. --KRS-ONE
  8. The weather isn't looking great for either day...if the weekend is a total wash would you reschedule and add one more event after the last one? -R You be the king and I'll overthrow your government. --KRS-ONE
  9. If you want to be really hip: pinoy == filipino for "dude" pinay == filipino for "chick" (effectively) I also know some tagalog vulgarities, but I'm a polite individual and won't share them here. HAH. -R You be the king and I'll overthrow your government. --KRS-ONE
  10. Most excellent...I'm looking to get into paragliding now that I am near mountains/hills. This is just fuel for the fire. :> -R You be the king and I'll overthrow your government. --KRS-ONE
  11. In Jeffery's defense: I used to ride my bike everywhere when I lived in Chicago as it was my primary mode of transportation. When I moved to South Florida, the sheer amount of decrepit old people driving around and oppressive heat made me fear dearly for my life over a two-mile commute. It's just not a fun place to ride...Moving to Northern California made it feasible for me again though :> -R Much of the year, it's BALLS-HOT out, and humid, Bill. Cut me some slack. If I walked, skated or rode to work any time from March through late November, I'd arrive a sweaty disgusting mess. -Jeffrey You be the king and I'll overthrow your government. --KRS-ONE
  12. Now, if they did hop-n-pops I'd so be there...just popped out my cypres for such a thing :> -R You be the king and I'll overthrow your government. --KRS-ONE
  13. just a quick check...this is for 2006, right? -R You be the king and I'll overthrow your government. --KRS-ONE
  14. you must be cuter than me, then :> You be the king and I'll overthrow your government. --KRS-ONE
  15. boobs help. Seriously. I gauge a new DZ by how friendly people are towards me versus, say, my girlfriend. It's a bummer when you ask people get on a jump with them and they kinda shrug or pretend they're busy. People are more than willing to be 'helpful' when you're a chick, especially a really cute chick. I met a couple of nice folks there, but it's not worth it when you drop twenty-bucks and have to do a solo because you can't find someone to get on a jump with. Now, Lodi has $5 hop-n-pops, so who needs to find cohorts :P -R You be the king and I'll overthrow your government. --KRS-ONE
  16. For lighter loaded canopies harness turns are way less effective. What I've done is I've nearly thrown my body to one side...almost like I'm trying to throw myself out of the harness to get any kind of dive. Also, try flying in half breaks, letting up, start a riser turn THEN lean(throw) yourself into the turn. And keep it high until you feel that you can nail it. ;> -R You be the king and I'll overthrow your government. --KRS-ONE
  17. I've gone from a Samurai 105 to a Velo 96...let's just say the Samurai has some dearly missed qualities (on-heading openings and light riser pressure). I've had to learn to fly the harness a lot more and be more relaxed on openings. The bottom end lift is incredible and I'm amazed at how much I can slow the thing down. I'm happy :> -R You be the king and I'll overthrow your government. --KRS-ONE
  18. I heard that some other survey said that men estimate the average penis at about 8-10 inches where as women estimate the average penis at 4 inches....WHERE'D IT ALL GO!?! -R You be the king and I'll overthrow your government. --KRS-ONE
  19. Well I suggest we stop this thread right now! We need to hijack a relatively useful topic and discuss their profile entry because making statements about canopies they shouldn't be flying at those jump numbers is much more productive. can we pass on it just this one time? You be the king and I'll overthrow your government. --KRS-ONE
  20. Hey, I downsized from a stiletto 120 to a samurai 105 and then put a couple of hundred jumps on the sam. I've some stuff on the comparison. Just do a search of my username (I don't have THAT many posts), or of "samurai stiletto". But in brief: the samurai will have a lot longer recovery arc and the front riser pressure is a LOT lighter. Still fast and responsive like the stiletto. 1st rule about the switch to the samurai: START HIGHER. :> -R You be the king and I'll overthrow your government. --KRS-ONE
  21. I don't have my PPM handy to compare, but here's the specs from the website: http://www.thethreadexchange.com/nylonspecs46.html -R You be the king and I'll overthrow your government. --KRS-ONE
  22. Synthetic Threds is not a viable option, they don't sell retail and/or in small quantities. Would this fit the bill? http://www.thethreadexchange.com/miva/merchant.mv?Screen=CTGY&Store_Code=TTE&Category_Code=BNL46 -R You be the king and I'll overthrow your government. --KRS-ONE
  23. Is there a different moniker for "B" sized thread? I don't see any listed on para-gear's site. -R You be the king and I'll overthrow your government. --KRS-ONE
  24. I'm relining a canopy using 500lb Vectran. A couple of things I've heard to keep in mind are that the bartacks width should be 50% of the width of the line itself. And what thread is recommended for such an operation? E-sized Nylon 8.5lb? Recommendations on the length of the bartack down the line? -R You be the king and I'll overthrow your government. --KRS-ONE
  25. I think it has absolutely everything to do with the amount of sugar in the coke you are no longer getting. I drink about 2-3 cokes before lunchtime, then I tried switching to diet coke for a couple of days and by lunch time I was STARVING. I was getting the same amount of caffine, but less carb, my body was missing the calories. The trick is to replace those calories with healthy things like fruit and granola and other such things...things that'll fill you up without actually containing a lot of calories (bagels NOT included). Eating low-calorie filling things trick your body into not being hungry, while you aren't consuming the amount of calories your body thinks you've consumed by how full you feel. I keep meaning to kick caffine, but it's so difficult, I'm jealous :> -R You be the king and I'll overthrow your government. --KRS-ONE
