  1. Samurai. They make them up to like 170. The Samurai is a very divey canopy and flies flares well (up to about 2.0) I'm loading my 105 at 2.0 and I keep learning new ways to extend the dive even further...I can push it somewhere above 700ft for a 270 and with it's decently long recovery arc, coming out high is no problem mon, it will still cook for a while afterwards! As far as air-locks...it gives you a little bit more of a rigid wing adding to it's relatively shorter lines in giving an extremely responsive canopy, compared to a Stiletto (and the potential added stability in turbulent air, yadda yadda). Riser pressure is much lower, especially further along in the dive than the Stiletto, so you can muscle it around a bit more too. I've put about 600 jumps on Stilettos and find the Samurai several orders of magnitude better for swooping or learning to swoop on. Give it a shot, a 150 would probably be perfect for what you want, you *might* want to try a 136, but it'll start getting hard to shut down if you cook in at that wing-loading. -R You be the king and I'll overthrow your government. --KRS-ONE
  2. Ahh yes, but the question was about recommended wing-loading, not his profile. -R You be the king and I'll overthrow your government. --KRS-ONE
  3. My first thought when seeing the subject in the forum list was..."Doesn't FOX do COPS?" Sorry about that -R You be the king and I'll overthrow your government. --KRS-ONE
  4. A friend passed this on to me today: http://abcnews.go.com/GMA/Living/story?id=235788&page=1 Which, oddly enough, seems to be a re-release of this story: http://archives.cnn.com/2001/HEALTH/02/07/orgasm.device/ But don't worry guys, it won't totally phase us out, the batteries have to run out some time, right? Although, if you do get one, make sure you get the kind with a safety cover, you'd probably not want it to go off accidentally while in a very public place :> -R You be the king and I'll overthrow your government. --KRS-ONE
  5. YAY. I think we need some pre-emptive 'YAY'ing here. -R You be the king and I'll overthrow your government. --KRS-ONE
  6. I'd say 100,000 dead people being a "mess" is quite the understatement. http://www.cnn.com/2004/WORLD/meast/10/29/iraq.deaths/index.html -R You be the king and I'll overthrow your government. --KRS-ONE
  7. http://www.cnn.com/2004/ALLPOLITICS/11/01/election.virtual.vote.reut/index.html When the rest of the world doesn't like you, you might want to stop and think about it. -R You be the king and I'll overthrow your government. --KRS-ONE
  8. Sebastian doesn't have a pond, and I'm not sure about Deland, but you'll be doing the course over the ground I assume...Pond not required? I guess I always assumed that most of this would involve a swoop pond. -R You be the king and I'll overthrow your government. --KRS-ONE
  9. What was the entry fee and other details such as the number of rounds, jumps, etc, oh yea, and the prizes :> -R You be the king and I'll overthrow your government. --KRS-ONE
  10. So once again. It is NOT justifiable to burn a piece of cloth yet it IS allowable to cause bodily harm to one that has a different viewpoint than yourself? Sounds rather psychopathic to me, does no one see a problem with this rationale? -R You be the king and I'll overthrow your government. --KRS-ONE
  11. no.. people on here that know me well KNOW that I stand up for what I believe in... If you dislike my country enough to burn my flag you need to leave... And you need an ass whipping... lol So, let's look at this logically. Buring a piece of cloth is bad. Physically hurting someone that burns a piece of cloth is Ok. Good job. -R You be the king and I'll overthrow your government. --KRS-ONE
  12. Agreed, My decision to purchase the Samurai wasn't based upon the fact that it had airlocks...I just see them as a bonus, the canopy's flight characteristics are what attracted me to it. There may have been few situations where having an airlocked canopy made a difference, where I thought "airlocks probably helped" rather than thinking, "airlocks will save me" . Airlocks move the odds slightly in your favor, they aren't a force-field. -R reply] Smart man. That's an awful lot of faith to place in airlocks. If the conditions are such that you feel you "need" airlocks then maybe jumping isn't the best thing to be doing just then. Blues, Ian You be the king and I'll overthrow your government. --KRS-ONE
  13. Here's my 105. I picked it up with 80 jumps on it and have had some kick-ass swoops. People say it's pretty loud when I swoop it. :> White bottom-skin, yellow top-skin, blue airlocks and triangles. -R You be the king and I'll overthrow your government. --KRS-ONE
  14. Agreed, so I chose the next most reasonable option. -R You be the king and I'll overthrow your government. --KRS-ONE
  15. I'm guessing he wanted you to figure that you need to use 'cp'. That's the command for the job, I can't see why he'd want to obfusicate it (any more than it already is) by making you alias common commands. -R You be the king and I'll overthrow your government. --KRS-ONE
  16. This assumes bash is on the machine and also located in the ''/bin" directory, this is not portable. Hard-coding the location of the home directory is also dangerous, using "~" or "${HOME}" is preferred as it is portable. -R You be the king and I'll overthrow your government. --KRS-ONE
  17. Actually, that example is terribly wrong. If you look at the manpage for 'cp', you'd see that the last argument in the argument list would be the destination. That example would copy 'letter' to 'memo', assuming 'mycopy' worked like 'cp'. To make what I posted a script, you put the text in a file, then run 'chmod 700 ' and you run the file. "#!/bin/sh" is probably not required in this case, although it is good pratice to include it at the beginning of the file. -R You be the king and I'll overthrow your government. --KRS-ONE

  20. Just a side note: "hook-turn" has such a stigma attached to it, people usually refer to it generally as a "swoop" these days. A hook implies something rather reckless, where as a swoop is or can be something elegant. When someone refers to someone that "hooked-in" they can often mean it was a swoop gone bad. When someone "swooped" it was usually successful. These minor differences in semantics vary from dropzone to dropzone. -R You be the king and I'll overthrow your government. --KRS-ONE
  21. I would generally say, no. I found the abundance of reactionaries here so overwhelming that I felt it wasn't worth the energy to debate with a brick wall. I am really disappointed in this forum :< Kudos to those that still try to reason with some of the most mentally stagnant folks I've ever run across. -R You be the king and I'll overthrow your government. --KRS-ONE
  22. Yay! I just sent the letter with our registration forms and money in it. I'm stoked and can't wait to see everyone there! We also are in desparate need to blow off some steam from all those missed weekends. More Yay! -R You be the king and I'll overthrow your government. --KRS-ONE
  23. I generally don't like pop music, if it gets played 15 times a day or more on a radio station I usually move along. I prefer more obscure stuff, and have very very eclectic tastes. This makes for some great sound-tracks as it's often very refreshing and interesting to use something different. I love to use music that makes people ask, "what is that? it sounds great, who is it?" -R You be the king and I'll overthrow your government. --KRS-ONE
  24. I'm of the opinion right now that skydiving footage + punk or funk == good. I'm tired of the same old repetitive beat as well. When I created my video I wanted something up-tempo, unconventional and conveying a generally good vibe. One of my best friends has, uhm, let's say, differing tastes in music and wants to put that high-pitched-barbie-girl-whiney-euro-techno to the video footage. NAY I SAY. In my 10 minute video I have: Janes Addiction Bar-Kays Tones on Tail Beastie Boys I almost threw in some Mos Def and Bad Brains, but I didn't want to over-saturate. How about that for breaking the mold? ;> -R You be the king and I'll overthrow your government. --KRS-ONE
  25. Right, as we all know how thumbscrews are heavily dependant upon dropzone.com profiles. How much do thumbscrews usually cost anyways, I was thinking that it might be a good idea to have a few extras around. -R You be the king and I'll overthrow your government. --KRS-ONE
