  1. Yup. All went well - which means they're awesome. But if it hadn't.. we'd be saying something else entirely in the 'incidents forum' - especially if it's really the guy's 39th jump. And if I'm raining on peoples parade anyway, look at the "mister Bill downplane" in the related videos... Awesome... except I can spot a few things which do not seem like a very good idea to me. What makes you think it's the "guy's" 39th jump? The 39 jump wonder could be a DZ Diva. The mentor could just be impressed by her mad skilz. This MS Bill CRW jump is not a dude http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8JPfNp8vbEo&feature=related It is what it is. Quit being a drama queen about this. Use all of your senses to watch the video. "I bet he is going to put him into the wind" Jesus fucking christ, how dumb can you get? /not referring to the people in the video either Also: 1) the low jumper is released going into the wind 2) wide open landing area 3) with enough altitude to recover through pretty much the complete canopy flight cycle before touching down (ok fine, 7 seconds returning to full flight vs 10, if you want to debate - and I am sure you all will) Best idea? Maybe not. Done well? Yes. Kid had fun? Obviously. Go cry some more you big babies.
  2. Is there anyone he WOULD take a spot correction from?
  3. So what's the problem? Laugh in that guy's face
  4. Lions are built to take down gazelles, people are not built to fly. No matter, it turns out he'll be at the tunnel for three hours, not in the tunnel for 3 hours. t'was a joke.
  5. That's a shitload of time for your first shot. Best advice - prepare for the tunnel time like you're going to run a marathon. Be well rested, proper nutrition and hydration, be sure to strech and limber up for a few days before hand, and then on the flip side, don't make any plans for the next day, you're going to feel like you got hit by a truck. "You ever see a lion limber up before it takes down a gazelle?"
  6. Is it sad that the first thing I was mad about is the absolute shitty resolution on the Washington monument picture? FFS CNN.
  7. Hahaha, all the damn time. I have even had it look good in the plane then check my alti to see the rev / serial number screen. You just have to laugh.
  8. Funny enough, and I can't be bothered to look it up, one of the more recent Ferrari's was having problems with its gearbox catching on fire as well. I wanna say the 458 but I think that is incorrect. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-11156782 458 - wheel adhesive "thermal incidents"
  9. I am curious as to why a 13yo needs an iPhone. But I guess that is neither here nor there.
  10. WRONG. You are out of your depth on this one. Arguing physics with a physics professor..... Kallend, going to regale us rigging knowledge? *popcorn, yadda yadda*
  11. I like endomondo.com - upload from my Garmin watch for runs.
  12. So these 80kt winds are not causing any freefall drift. Is that what you are saying? Sure they are. 80kts worth. So you drift 1.5miles in FF. Next group only gives you 15 seconds. Since the plane hasn't moved over the ground, that groups drifts the same 1.5 miles you did, and opens right on top of you.
  13. Ever plane out of a high speed turn at 50 feet? It takes almost as much skill to manage the resulting deceleration and surge on a sub-100 canopy to not smash your ass into the ground as it does to not auger yourself in in the first place. I understand why DZOs don't want people swooping around. It's not worth it to cater to the 1-200 of us that compete regularly. However, taking away the pond and not banning swooping is all but stupid imho. Removing a safety device and still allowing the discipline is contradictory at best, negligent at worst. (Perris went all the way, though I can kill myself on a 90 just as easily, so I am still not sure what they are solving) Limit the canopies people can fly, the wingloadings people can fly until a proper progression/time/experience has occurred. Limit swooping on regular loads. Require dedicated passes for HP canopy work. We obviously cannot regulate ourselves anymore, and it SEVERELY pains me to say that. This is the start to limiting open canopy fatalities. /my $0.02, worth what you paid for it.
  14. anyway to override it and keep it in the 10.5 mode full time? or will the altimeter mode still show 4 digits under canopy (not as big of a deal to me)? Why would you want less data under canopy as opposed to more? Just curious.
  15. Well in the eyes of the plaintiff that's a true statement. Lawsuit on. In that case, why isn't every car manufacturer sued for every drunk driving death because they didn't design every single car to have a breathalyzer interlock in every car? Fucking stupid people and greedy lawyers.
  16. You say that, but I guarantee the last weekend I was jumping with you, there were probably a few of us on the plane with them equipped but not turned on. There are good reasons sometimes, but it falls under a very narrow set of parameters.
  17. Jean-luc Picard, USS Enterprise captain in Star Trek, TNG. /sigh/ If you are gonna make a comparison of Star Trek captains, please spell the names right, that's all I'm saying here. /mild trekkie //would fuck a green chick alien ///will not dress up and go to a convention
  18. ...when you stop crying that no one likes you. If there is a problem everywhere you go...consider the common element.
  19. Watch again. It is not just a line twist. I would love to join the lynch mob, however, @ jump 293 I chopped from a canopy wrap and was so amped I punched silver kinda upside down and on my back. Bruised me like a mother fucker. C'est la vie. /more careful attention during packing //plf better ///flare that reserve differently ////consider delaying camera (although no direct obvious relationship to this incident - other than people saying if you can't pack you probably don't have the situational awareness for a camera) She'll have plenty of time to ponder and learn while she heals, which I hope she does quickly and without persistent pain.
