  1. That is correct. The longer he is in the air, the further he will drift. The parachute ride is usually much longer than the freefall.
  2. Garmin actually just came out with their Forerunner 405. It's their best one yet (since it's the smallest)! In my first post in this thread I mentioned the Timex, since it is the basic basic, and is a quality watch. I guess it should also be mentioned that a heart-rate monitor and GPS, although cool as hell to have and play with, are not absolutely necessary for training. Still, here are my recommendations: Watch only: Timex Ironman Triathlon Sleek 50-lap Watch & HRM: Anything from Polar (I have the F11) Watch, HRM & GPS: Garmin Forerunner 405 (or one of the cheaper, but bigger models) I have the Timex and a Polar, but don't use the Polar that often since I find the strap rubs below my chest a bit much. I like the idea of having GPS for those really long runs that you don't feel like planning out too much and it will still tell you how far you've gone and what pace you're keeping. Maybe I'll get a 405 sometime in the near future.

  4. I love my Timex Ironman Triathlon Sleek 50-lap watch for training. Nice and sleek, basic functions, cheap(er). They have a women's version of it, too.
  5. http://www.dropzone.com/cgi-bin/forum/gforum.cgi?post=2321525;search_string=bsbd%20shirt;#2321525 looks like the original t-shirt designer, Guyronimo, is already re-printing them edit - Howard beat me to it.
  6. Awesome. Congrats to him! I'm currently training for my first marathon, too, so I know how much dedication and sacrifice it takes. It's a long road (ahahaha, I crack myself up), but it is definitely rewarding.
  7. Does someone know where to pull up the winds, especially aviation forcast and reported upper winds, for the date and general time of the jump? Do we know if the speed of the aircraft, reported as 173 knots (200mph), is airspeed or groundspeed? I have not been paying too much attention to details, so sorry if I have anything wrong, but the weather was bad that night, so if the aircraft was travelling into the wind and the 173kts was airspeed, the actual distance covered by the aircraft in the calculations above could be much smaller. On the other hand, if they were travelling with the wind, this distance could be a much greater distance (again assuming 173 is airspeed). Also, I don't know much about aviation. Just skydiving.
  8. hey josh, when you're done with all your old equipment, feel free to just send it down the street
  9. Two options: 1. Here. Click the videos tab on the top. 2. www.skydivingmovies.com And if you dare post the link you spammed us with last night... well... don't.
  10. wow. awesome story - thanks for sharing. wish jumping there was still possible these days. that would be one amazing jump!
  11. right after i hit 200. i followed the rules. glad i did, because i was able to become a better flyer before strapping it on... but even with that my videos still sucked. first stills was somewhere between 500-600 jumps.
  12. What you are referring to is a matter of opinion on what you think would be noticeable. Ckret said they recreated the jump using the same exact aircraft and with the same flight crew that mentioned the bump in the first place. They tried every other option possible, but the only way to accurately recreate what they felt was to make the sled leave the steps. I think the recreation they did would be fairly accurate.

I'm so holding you to that. This thread will be printed out for proof.

You are such a liar. You said you weren't gonna be jumping on your trip out to AZ. Unacceptable. Your penalty is one case of beer, payable to me.
  15. I think the movie looks like crap. All hype, no plot. Looks like a Godzilla ripoff too. Definitely won't be going to see it.
  16. We have to be able to talk to the marketing people. "What would you say ya do here?" "Well look, I already told you! I deal with the goddamn customers so the engineers don't have to! I have people skills! I am good at dealing with people! Can't you understand that? What the hell is wrong with you people?!?"
  17. This is where American universities differ from others. They believe taking these courses creates a more well-rounded individual who, in addition to their technical expertise, can also appreciate the arts, culture, diversity, history, etc. I think you're either a well-rounded individual or you're not. The extra classes are a waste of time and money IMO, but I took them because I had to.

  19. instead of relaxing and being a lazy college student, i worked 35-40 hrs, mostly during weekdays, to pay for my gear and jumps. not sleeping for 4 years was a bitch, but i did what i had to do to get my jumping in.
  20. In all likelihood, Cooper arrived at the surface without shoes. Who among us would want to land a 26' Navy Conical without wearing shoes, even at our home dropzones, let alone off the dropzone and at night? For $200k, I'm sure someone on here would give it a shot. Cooper was risking his life by hijacking a plane, so I'm sure he'd be willing to risk some other stuff. Also, who says that Cooper thought out every little detail, including what type of shoes he was going to wear? It's possible he overlooked some things in his planning (if there was much planning).
  21. Fergs! You're coming to North America and you won't even come down to good ol' D.C. to visit a friend? Boooo
  22. from an accredited university... most likely yes. i did for my biomedical engineering degree.
  23. Just because someone gets a patent on something, doesn't mean it's going to get FDA approval... thank god
