  1. thanks for your efforts. this is a really interesting case to follow.
  2. Clicky If anyone else has opinions about a new GL/Speedflying forum, let Sangiro know in the thread linked above.
  3. I wonder what new evidence they have that would cause them to "reignite" such an old case? From what Ckret had to say in the other thread, I don't think it is new evidence that has brought it back into the public eye, but more of a "let's revive it and see if the public can provide any new info." From what it says on the FBI's website, Carr has taken the initiative from within the Bureau on reviving this investigation. Maybe for personal reasons, or maybe just procedurally they reassign unsolved cases in case there are hopes at solving them.
  4. Youtube? I think you mean skydivingmovies.com You can put higher quality and longer videos on there.
  5. This was a post I had made over in the Swooping and Canopy Control forum in this thread, but I don't think it was doing much good over there. Would anyone else besides me like to see a new forum under "related sports" for Groundlaunching/Speedflying? There seems to be a lot of talk about these disciplines here in the swooping and canopy control forum, but I think they are unique enough to warrant a separate forum. And I know there are other groundlaunching/speedflying forums out there, but I'm referring to here on dz.com so that we can discuss things from a skydiver's perspective. Not many saw the thread, but Kolla loved the idea and says "Sangiro - pretty pretty please??"
  6. Now that I think about it, I don't think this request will do much good buried within a thread within the swooping forum. I'll go post it under Suggestions and Feedback, and see what happens
  7. I would think it would be very poor judgment if DB had sold the gear that was provided to him. Anyone in their right mind (I guess that is questionable for this scenario) would get rid of the equipment so it would never be found and traced back. Personally, I would've burnt it. Selling it to a jumper would leave a possible connection to the crime. I highly doubt the gear was ever sold to a skydiver/pilot/etc., but I guess there is always the chance.
  8. I agree. I thought it was a great movie. I didn't like Tom Hanks or Julia Roberts accents, but Philip Seymour Hoffman's character made up for it in my opinion. Good laughs too.
  9. Awesome. Congrats, you two!
  10. 1. Run my first marathon, and do it in a good time (4 hrs is the current goal and looks attainable) 2. Save money (first year of getting a real paycheck is done, time to be serious with the loot) 3. Repeat #1 but with a better time.
  11. Awwwwww... I'm telling Dave that you're cheating on us with the Burg.

  13. I think what you'll find is the HC5 is a wide camera to start off with. Adding the width of your Nvetigo-X and a bracket will have your camera way out there, especially is you're used to a PC series cam. So, there's a big issue of riser slap and you have a cam that's not in a box... HUGE snag hazard right there. The FF3 is specially made to minimize the width of sidemounting an HC cam, but even with doing that it's still wide as hell. At least you'll get a fully enclosed cam with the FF3 that gets rid of the snag hazard when you get the eventual riser slap. I don't think it's possible to minimize that width to something practical by building your own box on a standard helmet, but if you can figure something out I'm sure others would love to learn how...
  14. i'm currently using it to learn Arabic (even though i've been too busy over the last 2 months so i haven't been up to date on it). it's a really easy to use software that teaches the language through immersion, not translation, so you learn the language kind of like how a child naturally learns their language growing up. all the govt agencies, fortune 500 companies, etc etc use it since its one of the best out there. expensive, but worth it IMO. depending on how much spanish you need to learn, a lot of libraries offer free rosetta stone online lessons. this would only be 30 lessons or so, so its not nearly as much as you'd get from buying Spanish Level 1, but it's a free alternative if you only need to learn some and not become fluent. if you are going to purchase, there is a 10% off deal running now: clicky
  15. i hung a closing pin with my tassle, it was simple to do and still looked classy.
  16. if the instructor's mouth is close enough to the student's head and the instructor is yelling loud enough, yes a student can hear some stuff. "yahoos" are about all thats good for. i doubt words are discernible though. i'll try on my next tandem.
  17. very helpful recap. i am thinking of getting my girlfriend a GPS for xmas, so this will make my life a lot easier. does anyone have a recommendation for cheapest place to purchase one? i have a 25% off coupon for sports authority right now, so that might be my best bet.
  18. Highest wingloading a canopy can support? those aren't myths though, they're just technical questions.
  19. No fair, Alexandria is far for us Delmarva folks! I've got my work holiday party that night either ways, so I wouldn't be able to make it.
  20. here's one from WFFC '05
  21. i don't really see why this belongs in the freelying forum, but what the hell. there is already another thread in either general or bonfire about this event, so talks would probably be better suited in that thread. it was mentioned in that thread that he was wearing a climbing harness of sorts under his shorts.
  22. You must not have found it yet. The posted one is very revealing. But I'm at work on a gov't computer so I can't help you find it right now. I really shouldn't even be in this thread. Oops.
  23. Apparently Jack Bauer had a beeper back in '94.
  24. I had my helmet go in once and was able to get a busted up tape out of it. I used one of the repair services and the tape works fine now. If any part of the film is damaged, though, they splice it off so only undamaged film is left (I think that's how they did it, at least, since you can see what appears to be splicing marks on the film).
