  1. I would not tie anything around the reserve handle. You would be surprised at how many people have forgotten to remove before jumping. Instead what I do is wrap my chest strap around the handle and secure with the elasctic keeper. I think it would be far more unlikely to forget your chest strap AND to remove wrap around the reserve handle.
  2. If you have renters insurance you should check into that. My renters insurance covers anyting stolen from my car with a few exceptions, like cds/dvds. And this is why I never, no matter where I'm parked, leave anything valuable in my car.
  3. Sure it is. But he tested positive. He was under the influence.
  4. When I was in high school one of my classmates dad was run over and killed by his own car. He stopped on a hill to get his mail before continuing to the house. As he was getting it the car started rolling and ran over him.
  5. Lynn! Well that's one thing mentioned that I have not tried. I'll see if it makes a difference the next time I jump. But who knows when that will be with the wet weather.
  6. There is a small hotel on the dz that has some rooms with kitchens. They are pretty newly remodeled as well. I would choose that if don't want to drive an hour. Otherwise I think there are only Super 8 and Days Inns type motels around Eloy. Bare bones but clean and comfortable.
  7. Points to consider: 1. Assuming all your jumps have been under your current canopy you hardly know how to fly it. It takes several hundred jumps on a single wing to really understand how it flys and how to max it out. 2. If you want to swoop someday a Stilleto is one of the worst canopies to jump. It has a very short recovery arc which means you have to turn very low to plane out properly. 3. At your loading you are an accident waiting to happen. Check out Brian Germains wingloading chart. That is the very max you should be at.
  8. Easy but you'll pay a fee. A couple years ago it was $100.
  9. Okay I've had my Bonehead Mamba for a couple hundred jumps in all temps and conditions. It fogs up/ices over continually in colder conditions. I've cut a large hold in the foam and plastic over the mouth piece. It did help a little but not much. I always keep the face shield open until the last possible second before exit. The shield is coated with anti fog stuff. But it seems no matter what I do it fogs up in freefall to the point where I cannot see. I make a consious effort to breathe through my mouth and it has no effect. I've resorted to removing the face plate before jumping in cold conditions. Since this is the only full face I've ever had I have no point of reference. Is this common? I seem to be having more of an issue than most people. Are there other helmets that are less prone to fogging that I should try? Cut a small hole in the face shield to allow more air circulation in free fall? Now that I've switched to a full face I find I really like it but am tired of dealing with the fogging issues. Or maybe I'm just a heavy breather
  10. Lol, no, this thread is about H1N1, right? I'm from the Eastern block and as they say it these days, in the Eastern block, vaccines get you. Especially in the seventies... Funnily enough I both developed mumps and rubella later in life. It kind of questions the effectiveness, doesn't it? Just checking, lol. People who refuse certain vaccines like MMR, small pox and whatever else is needed bug the hell out of me. Sure there are risks with vaccinating but the risks are FAR greater in not doing so. Remember the polio epidemic and others? As far as the flu and H1N1 go, I don’t really care either way. Most people who are said to have died from the flu actually die as a result of complications that developed like pneumonia, not the flu itself.
  11. Not true. It depends on the canopy speed. It's pretty common, at least in my experience, and for larger sizes than you would think.
  12. I really hope you do not feel the same way in regards to the MMR and other such ones.
  13. Safire II 129, loaded at 1.3 I used to jump my Katana 107 until I got injured and upsized. Not sure if I'll work my way back down or not.
  14. As you should think about what rules you agree to follow. And perhaps you should re-read this. The objection is NOT to the flag.
  15. Would you feel the same way if he painted his house to look like giant flag and spray painted his lawn? My point is the intent of an association is simple. If you don't agree don't buy there.
  16. So how would feel about a 21 foot totem pole depicting something that you find offensive in your neighborhood. Like a Nazi themed pole. Hey, it's just a pole.... Personally I don't see what the big deal is except if you buy within a homeowners association be prepared to follow the rules or buy elsewhere.
  17. I disagree. I've seen it more than once at different dzs in my few years in the sport. And it was always by the old geezers and usually ended up with a two out/cypress fire. Pulling at 2000 ft was the norm in the old days as I had to re-adjust to the higher altitudes we pull at today. Some of the older guys still pull lower so I can see where with todays canopies you could on occasion get past the arming altitude of a cypress. If I pulled at 2K with my spectre I'm sure it would also get close since its a sniveler. I was conveying that I learned many years ago most of the low pull contest stories were just fairy tales. And when a couple of geezers go low its simply a typical case of loosing track of time and altitude. And I'm saying the instances I witnessed were low pull contests. They didn't outright admit it but you definitely knew by the sheepish looks and subtle comments made when they returned with reserve in hand. I think the low pull contests were/are more common that you want to believe.
  18. Well...he chose to live in an area with a homeowners association. Don't you agree to follow those rules when you buy?
  19. I disagree. I've seen it more than once at different dzs in my few years in the sport. And it was always by the old geezers and usually ended up with a two out/cypress fire.
  20. Using the foam plugs then if you are only going to use once seems extremely wasteful. Why not buy a pair of customer ear plugs and use those? They're pretty cheap and would fit better.
  21. I've worn the fancy dancy ear plugs (aka hearing aids) for almost 2000 jumps. The only time I have a problem is when I'm congested, and then I shouldn't be jumping anyways. If you have issues then either the ear plugs are not properly fitted or you need to learn how to manipulate your jaw. If the ear plugs are too tight then you won't be able to clear your ears at all. If they fit correctly you should be able to feel them moving simply by moving your jaw. Try closing your mouth, pinching your nose and blowing like you were clearing your ears. You should still be able to clear them on the ground with ear plugs in. If you cannot then they are too tight.
  22. If you are having this issue then either the earplugs are way too tight for you or you haven't learned how to manipulate your jaw to clear your ears. I would try getting some looser earplugs and see if you have the same issue.
  23. That's all great! If you'll go to the definitions page of the tax code and look up "state", you may realize why you were never required to file or pay in the first place. Blues, Cliff Sure, if you don't the tax evasion charges.
  24. 200 jumps 6 hours Freefall There is no minimum for jump numbers, just the 6 hours freefall time.
