  12. I knew there was at least one mega-church down there, but doing some googling turned up...holy shit! Colorado’s Christian Ministries Overwhelmingly Located in One City: Colorado Springs A small city at the base of Pikes Peak is home to the vast majority of Colorado Christian ministries. More than 500 ministries call Colorado Springs home. Colorado, the 21st most populous state in the country, boasts at least 56 Christian ministries on the “MinistryWatch 1000” list of the largest ministries in the nation. Among them are some of the nation’s most well-known. Together, they bring in over $2.5 billion, ranking Colorado fourth in the country for Christian ministry revenue. This ranking owes much to the rapid growth in ministries in Colorado Springs over the past 30 years.

  14. Colorado is not at all homogenous; Right-leaning: Western Slope (rural): District 3, Boebert -R. Eastern Plains (rural). District 4, Ken Buck -R. Colorado Springs (military). due to: Air Force Academy, Cheyenne Mtn AFB, Peterson AFB, Shreiver AFB, Ft Carson Army Base, Pueblo Army Base. District 5, Doug Lamborn -R Left-leaning: All the more densely populated areas, and resort areas. Districts 1, 2, 6, 7, 8. CO picked up a seat after the last census, and there was a redistricting. Boebert barely won by just a few hundred votes, in what I expected to be an easy win. Her opponent Adam Frisch has already announced he intends to run against her again. One weird district is mine. It encompasses both South Park (seriously), and extends Northeast into the Denver Northwest suburbs. So we have a larger rural area mixed in with a smaller urban area. The Democrat won the last time.
  15. Seen on Twitter. "Rep Jack Kimble of CA's 54th District" is a parody account that skewers the GOP.
  16. And now Harvard gets sued for their program of "Affirmative Action for Rich People with Dumb Kids": AP: Activists spurred by affirmative action ruling challenge legacy admissions at Harvard
  17. Credit to NerdGirl on her FB account for this. Legacy and Athlete Preferences at Harvard Abstract: We use public documents from the Students for Fair Admissions v. Harvard University lawsuit to examine admissions preferences for recruited athletes, legacies, those on the dean’s interest list, and children of faculty and staff (ALDCs). More than 43% of white admits are ALDC; the share for African American, Asian American, and Hispanics is less than 16%. Our model of admissions shows that roughly three-quarters of white ALDC admits would have been rejected absent their ALDC status. Removing preferences for athletes and legacies would significantly alter the racial distribution of admitted students away from whites. And for those (such as myself) not familiar with the term "dean’s interest list", it is defined here: In Admissions, Harvard Favors Those Who Fund It, Internal Emails Show The handful of emails — most of them sent between administrators and admissions officers — hint at the College’s behind-the-scenes fondness for applicants whose admission yields certain practical perks. Hughes referenced the emails as he quizzed Fitzsimmons on the “Dean’s Interest List,” a special and confidential list of applicants Harvard compiles every admissions cycle. Though the University closely guards the details, applicants on that list are often related to or of interest to top donors — and court filings show list members benefit from a significantly inflated acceptance rate. There went the idea students are admitted based on merit.

The Guardian: ‘Yevgeny Prigozhin will never be discussed again’: Russian media to erase all traces of mutinous warlord On Friday, Russia blocked the websites of the Ria Fan, Politics Today, Economy Today, Neva News and People’s News online media outlets, part of a constellation of online sites that pushed out fake news in support of Prigozhin’s agenda. The St Petersburg-based outlet Rotunda also reported that Prigozhin’s Internet Research Agency, a troll factory where low-paid interns would try to sow anger and distrust by writing aggressive comments under news and social media posts, had also been closed down. Won't someone think of the poor unemployed trolls?
