From what I understand the people will need plants and animals to eat.

Thanks for giving an honest answer. I really was curious about it. Despite the fact that I highly doubt we perceive reality in anything close to the same way, I don’t mean to ridicule your beliefs.

Are there uniforms or is everyone sort of mirage like or what. I am seriously asking you to describe what you will be like, if you can.

Some think white robes but, I don't know. I'm partial to denim jeans and cotton shirts.

Paradise prior to the rapture I think will be more mirage like, maybe an orb of light.

Some other Chrisitan traditions define heaven as a connectedness to God and the divine (and they're OK with its not being real specific), and hell as a separateness and unawareness. It's the tradition I'm most comfortable with, but I kind of amend it to the thought that there are really three conditions; heaven is when you feel that connectedness, hell is when you want it and don't feel it (think Mother Teresa, who kept soldiering on even after she quit feeling that connectedness), and whatever, which is the lack of interest.

To me, religion is a placeholder for all the stuff that seems to be out there, that we don't yet understand, or have enough to measure, or may not even be aware of. It's a reminder not to be too arrogant what we know everything that's useful to know, without acknowledging that our worlds may be bounded in ways we're not aware of.

Not every "weird experience" or case of "foresight" may be luck or mental illness. I don't feel them, but I'm perfectly willing to accept that other people do. Just as how I feel about my medical treatment can affect its effectiveness -- that's why ayurveda and TCM still have adherents, and things that they actually do rather well. Because they try to involve the whole person, and not just isolate what some scientist thinks is the only relevant factor.

Hi Wendy,

Re:  religion is a placeholder for all the stuff that seems to be out there, that we don't yet understand

As my college Philosophy instructor said, 'If God did not exist, mankind would create him.'  Mankind wants to have answers, so they made up some.

Also, a very nice post on your thoughts.

Last time I checked, all major religions encouraged their members to give charity to widows, orphans and the poor.

That sounds like a limited form of socialism.

The rewards.

That's it exactly. No hanging upside down and pretzel twisted in a hold, for me, doing the twin jobs of replacing an effluent hose and trying to figure out how I'm getting back out. Just jet ski's and yucks, all day.

“God hates the sin, but not sinners” is an unbiblical statement.

To say something like that minimizes the responsibility for sin, the requirement of repentance and justification, and the need for radical change in one’s nature. God does not love you just the way you are. Otherwise, Jesus need not have become flesh, lived righteous, and died in the believer’s place. If anyone is unrepentant, they are certainly outside of God’s love of complacency (salvific love for the redeemed ) and are therefore enemies of God.

“The LORD tests the righteous, but his soul hates the wicked and the one who loves violence.” (Psalm 11:5)

I know many of the Christians here may disagree and then reference John 3:16. However, John 3:16 is a general statement towards mankind, not to the individual. Otherwise, everyone would be saved, and we know that not to be the case.

So Jesus has a soul and that soul is filled with hate for some of humanity, in particular the "wicked' (whatever that means) and the ones who love violence? That certainly explains a lot about your loving God.

It explains that anyone who says there is no God has a really big problem, regardless of whether or not they believe it.
