Basically there is nothing the US or its allies can do, just like there wasn't in 2008.

Russia has a veto at the UN. It supplies most of Europe with its natural gas. It also has plenty of natural resources. So embargo won't fly, and we certainly aren't going to invade Russia.

Not so Sir, I believe that our PM Mr Cameron has already raised an eyebrow at Mr Putin. Furthermore he is preparing to 'Tut' loudly at the UN (I hear he may even go as far as accompanied eye rolling). If that fails the USA and Uk combined will draw a line in the sand, and if Mr Putin has the temerity to cross it together we will be forced to draw another line in the sand. (Following which we will beg him not to cross it and if he does will he please not cut off our gas as we have sod all military left and no public appetite for any form of confrontation following a decade of vanity wars).

What do you understand by the word "invasion"?

Invasion is when troops from one country enter another country. Like Russian troops are doing right now on the Crimean Peninsula. Like they did in Georgia in 08.

Admittedly, like the US did in Iraq in 03.

This whole situation is a lot more complex than the story the news is telling, and Russia does have some valid reasons for doing it. Some of which use justifications provided by the US.
And Russia has some pretty good reasons to be angry with Western Europe, NATO and the US. There have been promises broken and actions that are clearly seen as threats by Russia.

No. By international law, the embassy is US sovereign territory. Having US troops there wouldn't constitute and invasion.

By the same token, if Russian troops were only guarding the sailors and citizens at the Naval base in Sevastapol, then it wouldn't be an invasion. The base isn't sovereign Russian territory, but they have a legitimate presence there and the right to defend it.
But the Russian troops are occupying a much larger area.

Admittedly, there is a lot of confusion. It's not clear if these are actual Russian troops, or simply pro-Russian Ukrainians.

But most of the indications are that it either is or will be Russian troops on the ground, outside of the Sevastapol Naval base.

It is remarkably similar to the Georgian invasion in 08.

Did you read the article I linked. It's in interesting overview on the whole situation. Far more on the events leading up to it, going back to the breakup of the USSR.

No, I did not see Colin Powell in Ukraine, but I think you may have gone off the deep end.

Colin Powell was used as a puppet and the US invaded Iraq under false pretense.

In the largest centers of Ukraine Kharkov, Donetsk, Odessa, Kherson citizens drive the nationalists who have seized power.
There are no Russian military bases. Probably therefore these facts aren't interesting to your politicians. The external enemy is necessary.

So it is Russian property. Russian soldiers are there, but it isn't an invasion. There are unidentified troops, welcomed by the pro-russian factions, that Russia is very worried about.
