the best way to acknowledge this was quiet approval of a distasteful job that HAD to be done - and that our people had the nerve and ability to do that job
It is something to remember the next time you see a celebration like that on the news. Maybe all of the people from that country/religion don’t feel the same as those who end up on the news.
Didn't you see the news coverage of all those people quietly staying at home, with a sense of approval tempered by the sadness that this kind of mission is necessary for the good of all?
It was on the same networks that showed worldwide examples of Muslims disgusted with the Trade Center attacks in a perverted twist of something they held dear.
Hopefully, your reminder is not such a difficult item for the average person to 'get'.

I was disturbed by dancing and drunken celebration also

Uh, the obvious difference is that one group celebrated the killing of civilians, and the other group celebrated the death of the person responsible for these 3000 civilian deaths.
If they were celebrating the death of our previous president because they believe he caused them nothing but anguish, I can't fault them for it. But it's just not the same cheering for killing people who just wanted to fly from Boston to San Francisco.
If you people can't see the difference, then perhaps you need to own up to some serious bias problems (this is directed in particular at some English posters, not Wendy).
Running out of your house in the middle of the night to cheer anyones death is sick. What, do you think this is some kind of football game? If you can't see that then I feel sorry for, uh, some English posters.
Wasn't the middle of the night here. It was a tad annoying as it disrupted all TV programming during prime time.
Still doesn't change the fact that 9/11 and this killing have nothing in common, other than the stiff in the latter caused the former.
If people want to openly celebrate the death of WORLD enemy #1, they're welcome to. It's worth noting we're still trying Nazis (Demjanjuk) for crimes that occurred nearly 70 years ago.

QuoteQuoteBut am I happy that 4 people just got killed? No. Am I happy that this could encourage conflict? No.
Just a guess. I could be wrong. I'd bet that, if you happened to be a prisoner in a Taliban camp, where they'd beaten, raped, and tortured you for weeks and planned to hang you soon publicly from a sign post at the entrance of town for all (especially their women) to see, you might be overjoyed for a Spec Ops team to bust in at night and shoot each one of your captors in the forehead and get you to safety. Would you still be very upset over the attrocity of killing those who did so much harm to you? Or would you have an overwhelming sense of joy to still be alive? Again...I could be wrong. Reality just seems to change opinions sometimes.
Relief and joy are two very different things.
And to those who accuse me of villifying the US, all my posts are there for you to re-read - I have done no such thing. Is the US/the West perfectly innocent, though? HELL NO. To say that is just as ridiculous as saying the Middle East is entirely to blame.

The news broke approx 10pm eastern time. not exactly the mid of night but it went on until 1 or 2am...which is silly.
