104,306 miles

Recommended Posts

104,306 miles is what my baby had on it when someone decided to total it this past saturday. >:(

Taking my turn for the 3-way stop sign dance when a truck decided to round the corner and blow through his stop sign at 30 mph, just in time to smash through my '98 Mustang GT...

I've been in a bit of shock since then, and healing up a strained neck (which is still popping), bruised shoulders, and head contusion....until this afternoon when I got the news that my car was a total loss....$12,000 worth of damage! [:/]

I had that car from before it's conception at the factory. Now I'm depressed and angry at the same time. No baby...no wheels (well, my insurance is paying for a clunker for 2 more days)....got to get some transportation lined up and bought this week.

Sigh....so, guys, what should I buy out there? I've been test driving today and haven't come up with anything -close- to being the right thing.

I've gone to Ford, Nissan, Mitsubishi, Toyota, Honda, Acura.....still researching here....

What should I get?

Lori i'm sorry to hear it, but we kinda knew it was coming.

I saw her car on sunday, the impact shatter the back left rim broke the disc off the hub, fucked the suspension and more than likely bent the frame. amazeing what 30 mph can do!

What kind of car do you want? Good gas mileage and ok punch or crappy gas mileage and a punch that can knock you on your ass?

Lori,

The best vehicles I've owned have been Toyotas...followed by our Nissan minivan and my 1993 Honda Civic.

The Toyotas were reliable and trouble free...my definition of good. Our Nissan Quest minivan has given us 7 trouble free years so far. The Civic I just bought for commuting is a great little car...excellent mileage, terrific suspension and more zip than I'd have ever expected from a 1.3 l power plant. Cruises at 75 mph on the highway very nicely.

That is REALLY a bummer...what a dick.

I would base your decision on new wheels on fuel economy. We really DON'T need all the power that is being offered today. Honestly what is it good for? Getting you pulled over is what it's good for! If insurance will cover it, or most of it, try to get a hybrid car, or something with EXCELLENT milage and emissions. If we keep spitting pollution into the atmosphere, we won't be able to fall through it anymore without a bunnysuit!

I want my baby back! :(

I test drove the Eclipe GTS, the Toyota Celica, the Honda Civic :P, a used Honda Prelude (nice, but wasn't stick), the Acura RSX (nice but looks like it wants to be a VW bug in the front end), the new Ford Mustang (I don't fit in it...the ceiling is too low! :| )....kind of gives you a feel for it....

I liked some of the cars, but not sure about what else might be out there in this line. Also, haven't had time to sit down and look at the consumer reports and crash test results.

On my car, yeah...the frame was bent...the axel broken...the side panel destroyed, both air bags deployed...the rim, disc and hub smashed...wish I had pictures to show but they haven't arrived yet. (keep forgetting to take the roll to the developers. My mind's just not in gear this week).

wow, that really sucks... did you kick his ass??! there's a stop sign in my hood and none of those fools stop.

you need a convertible..B|

This was at the 'new' (2 week old) stop signs they placed on Case Rd where it crosses Goetz in Perris. STILL don't know why they put the f*@#**^#*ckn stop signs there! This guy lives in Sun City and probably didn't even know they were there until too late. [:/]

No, no ass kicking....I was just dazzed and going through the motions while the cops were there. You really know who your friends are, though, when people coming to and from the DZ stopped to lend a hand. I actually felt a bit sorry for the guy...he was all alone and my circle of friends kept growing by the minute.

As for the convertible. That would be nice. California is the place to enjoy that...even in the winter, huh!

Hey Josh, how old are you? Probably don't remember when most cars had V8 engine and lots of those had big block V8's. All had no emission equipment.

The air is much much cleaner now than then :D

And seeing you are in the Portland area, did you ever notice how clear you can see Mt Hood most of the time?

You young (for the most part) people that subscribe to all the junk science these days amaze me!

Sorry about being off topic ;)

Yeah, I'm a youngin' and no I don't exactly know what it was like "back in the day", but I do know things have improved FANSTASTICALLY, but the fact is, it could be better. Why settle at "good enough"? The average person doesn't need a gas guzzling TANK (a.k.a. an SUV) when there are much more fuel efficient vehicles around. This said, I'm driving a 1984 Mustang GT Convertable with a 5.0L V8 that gets 8 miles to the gallon. BUT, I would NEVER buy a brand new car or even a slightly used car, that isn't fuel efficient. In fact, I didn't buy the car I'm driving now, I'm borrowing it until I get a new engine in my grand am, which will get 32 miles to the gallon.

There must be some bad juju out there for camera flyer's autos. My CRV aka "shaggon waggon" was picked on by a drunk driver in the parking lot of a restaurant last Wednesday. He slammed into it an sped away pissed off after his waitress cut him off. To make a long story short, he was arrested and charged on numerous counts. Now I have a Taurus with unlimited miles for the next two weeks while the shaggon waggon is a mending... 75,000 miles and healing...

Gotta agree with Dave - you can't haul nothin in those little machines. Get yourself a nice Ford F-150, straight 6, and be happy.

Mustang, mustang, mustang. my 89 made it from ohio to california and back with only $1000 worth of repairs. but you obviously like the stang's so get another one. i did not see any thing in your post about needing good gas mileage just that you have good taste in cars. (i vote for a new mustang giddy-up giddy-up).

Hey Lori,

Sorry to hear about your baby. I love my Mazda but it may be a bit big for what you are looking for. It's an SUV (family car don't you know). But if I were going to get a smaller car I would look at the Toyota Hybrids; they are really cool, the new Beetle convertibles, or a Mini.

I'm surprised there aren't more accidents on that road. I've had several near misses near the road that comes out by the ghetto and coming out of Ethanac. I just started working again so hopefully I will be able to come down that way again soon. I hope I hope I hope.

Sorry to hear about your car...that really does suck. Look on the bright side, you're in one piece. Your health is more imporant; right? I think the Eclipse are sweet cars....try a convertible. :):o:D
