I was wondering if any guys out there still write love letters? I still think it's just about the most romantic thing a guy can give you.. Not a sexy text or dirty email.. I'm talking a genuine, hand-written letter to the woman you love..

Yes. Usually just a short note or a card with a few sentences in it. Getting those back in a box at/after a breakup is one of the more painful things I've dealt with.

OMFG! I couldn't imagine ever giving them back! I can't say they're not painful to read, but they're mine to treasure and to bring me back to a time when I know I was loved! (the very few times I've looked at them) It's not a thing that has happened but once in my life with a 100% degree of certainty and I wouldn't dare give them back, throw them away, burn them or anything. They are put away with some other 'momentos' that will be items I will always probably cherish.

Yes I have, she was / is the girl of my dreams and I have regretted it.

You girls aren't moved by romance, yeah you talk a big game but when the chips are down.....romance just isn't going to cut it for you. Girls will go for the asshole with the six pack any day over the half decent guy who wrote the love letter. Better yet 99/100 a girl use said letter to embarrass the shit out of the guy. Turning what were private powerful emotions into confetti.

But, odds are that I will write another.

I've written plenty on the past but I don't think I've ever written one to my wife and we have been together for 10 years (married for 6?). I still have a box with things that my ex-gf wrote, drawings and music that she composed and played for me along with a few pictures of her.

Maybe I should not still have that box but what the heck am I to do with it? BTW I never look in that box, it's in another box in the garage and I'm 99% sure my wife knows about it. Over the years I've found letters that were written to her and a few that she had wrote, all before we met, I never said a word about them.

Aww shit.. You've been giving your heart to the wrong girls.. I disagree about the six-pack asshole thing.. YES, there needs to be chemistry.. But chemistry can come from personality / charisma..

Sorry to hear you got hurt.. Speaking for myself, I think words spoken from the heart would make me melt faster than almost anything I can think of.. BUT obviously they need to come from someone I fancy, otherwise I think it might be a little awkward...

Yeah shah, you are right. It seems like it "smothers" them when you give a letter of love. I have poured it (my heart and soul) out in those letters... now, I'm single and have no idea where any of those letters, my soul or heart could be. But, all is fair in true love and...

Seems strange that when I've asked this question before, the men seemed to think it was a ridiculous endeavor, whereas I have yet to meet a woman who hasn't kept and treasured a love-letter she got once-upon-a-time...

I'm sure there are exceptions on both sides.. And maybe the guys just didn't want to own up to being romantic types.. I guess I just don't understand why it would be such a bad thing to be seen as the romantic type???

The guy you fancy doesn't need to write you a love letter. He has you so what's the point?

As for me, this one is very complicated, I don't think she will utilize it in any way agents me but rather me coming out and laying all my intentions and my thoughts on the table and her holding her thoughts in close does put me in an awkward position.

But then this is the girl 13 years ago who turned me into what could only best be described as a woman hunting vampire. To which I can safely say, getting laid and getting a girls heart have very little to do with writing sweet little nothings and expressing how one feels and more with validating her inner desires.

long time ago, I was teaching in Kentucky, Streaker was living in Illinois. Man he wrote some great stuff. I still have them all in my box of Christmas wrapping stuff. I haul them out every year and read them when I am frazelled by the Christmas blitz. It helps me put a little perspective on the whole thing. They will be 35 years old this year.

HUH?? Seriously?? The point is it's meaningful and sweet.. Just because you "have" someone doesn't mean you can't do something really sweet for them. I *constantly* hear women complain that their man isn't romantic anymore.. Courting shouldn't be limited to just "getting" the girl - it should continue to *keep* her!!
As for sharing the letter with everyone.. I would never done that, so it's a shame if it has happened to anyone out there.. But surely if the woman is showing all her friends it's because it was a great letter.. What's so bad about that? If a text gets passed around - again.. Isn't this a sign that she's got a great man and wants to brag to all her girlfriends?

Am I missing the point??
