  1. Ah, wait til you're in the car and they can't run away. I like it!
  2. Packing for Nationals, "Oh, honey. So. I haven't logged since we started training. Mind signing these 200 jumps quick so they'll let me register?"
  3. I'm not saying it isn't a risk, but think about it realistically. She jumps a lot, like, I'd love to jump as much as her. She probably flies in all sorts of orientations as well while practicing, organizing, and fun jumping. If that slack was actually long enough to interfere with a hypothetical "PC between the legs", it'd be long enough to sit there and smack her legs/back/stomach constantly throughout the jump which would be pretty annoying and likely shortened real quick.[url] My gut says that the perspective makes it look longer than it is. I'm just as worried about the bungee that keeps my booties tight interfering with my PC as that slack.
  4. I had a Pulse 170 in a v348 with an OPT176 reserve. It was a bit on the soft side, but not TOO bad.
  5. a6300 @ DPReview For those of you that really know your shit, what are your thoughts on this? I don't know Sony's cameras at all so I can't tell if this is an incremental update or a solid revision. It should at least drive down prices for a6000/a6100 right?
  6. Any money you save at the cheaper places is going to be offset by the extra lodging expenses. I'm a Zhills local, would love to tell you Zhills. But honestly, it doesn't make much sense to do it anywhere besides Sebastian or the folks down in Miami. If you're going to go somewhere for a full week straight to do this, then Hillson's post is spot on. Depending on your jump pace and your physical fitness, Tampa/Lake Wales is a LONG drive back while sore as hell from your first handful of jumps. Zhills kept at least 1 Otter going from 9 am til sunset yesterday on a COLD and windy Monday. I didn't see any canopies or activity at Jump FL (our pattern takes us within a mile of their DZ).
  7. Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but the spacing is far to large to be a 3D setup. This is what you'll want for 3D.
  8. Well at least at MSP you should be good, I've never had a bad experience with TSA there, nor heard of one. MN Nice and all. But YMMV. MCO should be pretty used to seeing weight belts due to the big ways they have in DeLand, and all the PDFT/Flight-1/CP guys traveling in and out of there. I'm sure there are plenty on this board that can verify/deny that claim.
  9. Way to miss the forest. I included anecdotes as examples. I've removed them for you. A mass group getting almost no attention outside of specific drills is better than 2-on-1 training how? How many stories do we hear of folks with a dozen jumps all of a sudden teaching new guys how to do it in the old days? Were they going in in droves?
  10. Oh please! My 19yo scuba instructor would probably have failed the teaching portion of AFF-I course, and maybe even the coach course. And a mass group getting almost no attention outside of specific drills is better than 2-on-1 training how? When I was doing my first dive, I witnessed an Advanced course where 2 people couldn't put their 1st stage on right. How many stories do we hear of folks with a dozen jumps all of a sudden teaching new guys how to do it in the old days? Were they going in in droves? Maybe the instructors YOU taught were better than that, but the instructors I see at my DZ are far better instructors than my scuba instructor.
  11. But that isn't how the religions were identified. They were chosen for a study and had to declare their religion. You could argue a few answered not religious even though they were, but I doubt many, if any, did just that. And I dunno, if I were an atheist social psychologist or sociologist, I might get sick of being called names and looked down upon by the religious and do a study on it. And 1 study by itself doesn't show much, just some connections between a few points for 1170 children. A few more studies along the same lines with even larger sample sizes would be more interesting to me.
  12. Yes, it is completely possible. I still haven't read the manual for my N3, and it's fully set up with dropzones, aircraft, canopy and FF alarms with different tones. I turned on the backlight without asking anybody or reading a manual. This isn't a brand war either, to me at least. I have a Viso and N3, I like em both. I like my solo and optima as well, they're all good products from two good companies. But one has an fairly easy menu when you're used to it, and the other has easy as shit menu I learned with 20-some jumps without reading the manual. But then again, I still work in "IT" and engineer solutions for global companies
  13. Or as I stated, non-currency. Not everyone is like you going into the settings every other day to test some new such-and-such setting to prove to all the rest of the community how smart you are and that we've been doing it wrong forever. When I had to reset my teammate's Viso before Nationals round 1, it was "is it bottom button/bottom button, or center button, or access then center button? I can't remember and I'm more worried about doing well in round 1 vs an alti" An easy as shit menu is going to "Menu -> Settings -> Reset" or something along those lines, like an N3. Easy as shit is something I can do in the middle of a dirt dive if I haven't done it in months. A Viso menu is easy, but if you haven't gone into settings for 6-12 months, it is IMHO understandable if someone forgets how to get there, but then can set up a new viso on their own once they remember its access then center button. But give a Viso and an N3 (without manuals) to a jumper that hasn't seen either before and guess which one gets set up first. THAT's the "easy as shit" menu.
  14. Use a N3, that is an easy as shit menu. Every ~6 months or so when I want to do something besides see my logged jumps on my Viso I have to look up the manual online because I forgot which function I needed, or which setting is which. I don't complain because I simply don't care. If I used the menus more, I'd remember more so it's moot. Having a non-intuitive menu system is not "user error".
  15. Take my opinion with a grain of salt as Mega XL are the only booties I've ever flown. They're awesome. So much power and as precise as I'm able to make them. I have 2 "Airspeed" suits from Tony, and will likely stick with those for RW jumping for the foreseeable future.
  16. I believe everyone is looking for this https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gambler%27s_fallacy
  17. The last time I saw someone at the DZ lament that they couldn't wear their motorcycle helmet, I had him put his rig and that helmet on then do his EPs. He couldn't see his handles. IIRC he couldn't even see his chest strap. That might be a risk some more experienced people are willing to take, and I do practice closing my eyes and feeling from the lateral/MLW junction up to my handles. But I want to at least have a chance of seeing my handles when SHTF
  18. I had a similar issue on my Optima, it took multiple resets, 2 new sets of batteries, and being without batteries for a week, but it finally fixed itself after that.
  19. Yes. My first Flight-1 course was on a similarly loaded Crossfire2 and walked away quite happy. Worth every last penny.
  20. I believe Moe licensed the design to Apex, the container that uer16 linked to in post #3. The description mentions that Moe and Todd refined Moe's original idea as well
  21. I'm not sure about this one, but it isn't the first time I've seen skydiving in their ads. An ad from a while ago was a collage that included a tandem pair in freefall
  22. I haven't had any issues in ~900 jumps on mine. But I do try to turn it off and on before each jumping day just to make sure it still knows where zero is. It seems after time, likely with weather/density alt. changes, it can go off 100-300 feet high/low. It's a small amount and shouldn't be a big deal, but I don't like hearing a beep and seeing 4.3k on my visual
  23. White helmet on the black and green infinity on very right edge. That is definitely a KISS. And maybe a pink Fuel just to the left, but Cookie is very well represented.
  24. Now I feel like going back and watching video from when I was a lowtimer to see how long I stared at it. What felt like a split second could've been much longer. And I feel ya, especially if more than one person is "out of the dive" for a few seconds. Thinking about it now, I really wouldn't be surprised if I did a "Wow, 9k feet and we're already done with the dive!" as I'm holding up the dive going to a second page as a lowtimer
  25. The story I heard a while back was that some 3rd party software checks the windows version, and if it starts with "9", the installer treats it as Win95. As much as I love giving MS shit, I believe that it was only 3rd party software, and isn't really their fault.
