  1. CRW chutes have SIGNIFICANTLY different recovery arc characteristics than sport mains and reserves. ...And, my guess would be, they'd be flying at the ground much faster in a downplane config. Even more reason to chop the main. Think of it this way, if you don't chop the main in a downplane, there will be NO recovery arc??? Ouch!

  3. I'm sure you're well informed as to why the risers would be different lengths. For those who have one leg longer than the other. Sadly there is a fair amount of difference between the three of them.
  4. Just did a similar mod last week. I didn't like how close the back of the shoe was to the visor release. I took a 90 connector and then used a longer bolt to secure it (supported by washers) to the same screw location you used. I then used a one of the small extender bars and mounted the camera to that. Slight encrouchment on upper vision but not bad at all. I'll take pictures tonight and post them if anyone is interested. The mount can swivel but I think some super glue will take care of it nicely.
  5. Yup, more than happy to continue buying CYPRES even after this current issue.
  6. No, and I never made such a claim. You however have made claims that you know what is going on. So that means you either: 1. Are making a guess without having seen the real data. 2. Have seen the data from the company since you work for them. That might have helped you from making claims without data... So either you work for them and are making excuses or you are making a guess and making excuses. You are free to give an opinion, but you are making statements of fact either as an employee acting as someone independent, or as an outsider without the real data. At any rate... You are making excuses.... The only question is have you seen the data or are you just taking a wild guess? In either case.... I don't really care who/what you are. They have an issue and they have suggested a lousy solution. Ron, do you believe it's possible that right now Airtech/SSK lack the ability to turn around 20k+ units in a timely manner? How much capital, and how long would you think it would take to train enough employees to handle that load? Turnaround time per unit test is about 2 weeks. I don't know how many they are able to service concurrently at each center. I'd suggest it's well below what would be required to do a full blown recall. I'd also tend to believe that manufacturing capacity is such that they are unlikely to be able to quickly crank out 20k+ new units to issue as replacements as quick as anyone would like. Capacity that you are asking for doesn't get created overnight. I tend to agree with F94sbu that this is a first step, not the only step. Do I know that for certain? Nope. Vent all you want, it's not going to help. And it doesn't seem to be making you feel any better.
  7. I'd suggest you'll have better success not playing files off the camera. Hope the new card fixes it!
  8. Here's hoping there will be some forth coming.
  9. PD did more testing than the GKs. If you are going to chop you'd better be damn sure that you won't risk entanglement. RSLs were noted as not being present during PDs testing and it provides an additional snag mechanism. Other things to consider are widely disparate canopy sizes. For instance my container will easily accomadate a 135 main (possibly 120) non-xbrace, and I have a 160 reserve. Altitude should change how you look at things as well as how shitty the landing area is that you are headed towards. If you have two out and they are flying stable ANY input can greatly effect flight characteristics. I'm not saying do nothing but I'd also argue that there are a alot of jumpers out there with extremely subpar canopy skills and a real lack of understanding. I'm not necessarily disagreeing with you. Just providing some more info and thoughts.
  10. I'm too scared that someone is going to move my balloons...
  11. Are you copying the files from the GP to your computer and then playing them? Playing from the camera could cause some IO issues.
  12. Never had it either ;) but I'm willing to try this for science, shits and giggles... Sunday, anyone at Elsinore can come dock at me and pull my arm release ;) see what happens... Game on!
  13. I can toss it up on Google Drive if you'd like. PM me.
  14. You must already have tunnel vision if that constitutes 1/2. It looks like a significant chunk of peripheral vision is lost. No need to be a dick all the time.
  15. Discussion and learning opportunities. Even the 'speculation' that some whine about generates new topics for discussion and more learning opportunities. Let's not get all involved with tunnel vision thinking every post in the thread should be strictly about the facts of the incident. Pops come on. The vast majority of threads I've read in the incidents forum are garbage. Heavy on speculation, heavy on absolute statements, and hilariously dysfunctional blame gaming. If we could get to the place where there are incident reports like APF puts out, and then we discussed it a little further here that would be constructive and helpful. Largely what is going on today isn't.
  16. I thought about it. Current cost on CYPRES maint seems reasonable to me. *shrug Wouldn't mind paying a little less up front though. (Initial cost+Maint 1+Maint 2)/12.5 is not bad for "insurance".
  17. V1 has been out for a while. Look for BASEline Flight Computer on Google Play. It's pretty slick, and looking forward to v2!

  19. How's it a meme if it's what the president has asked congress to pursue? Which of the President's proposals asks Congress to confiscate ("grab") guns? What myself and many others expected was a return of the 90s era AWB with modifications. The NRA is leaning hard to toss out a lot of FUD. Not denying that one bit. I don't know that it's any more egregious than the far left. I didn't express myself very well, and I apologise for that. I would point out that an outright banning and confiscation of civilian firearms has all but been given up. The not so new way ahead is death by a thousand paper cuts. EDIT: I'd also add that a lot of the guns that sold out very quickly are ones that are suspected to be targeted by updated legislation. So perhaps gun grabber isn't wholly applicable, but there is incentive to have your ownership "grandfathered". Make sense?

  21. Hit my card 2 days after I ordered.
  22. Semantic BS. I love how it's only semantic BS when it isn't falling out of your mouth. I've bought and sold guns privately, among a small group of friends. I knew for certain that they were eligible to possess them. I've sold 1 gun to a person I didn't know. We met at a gunshop and the owner ran the background check. To do anything less is incredibly irresponsible. I kind of like the idea of the Iowa system (if we really need to go there). This incident is negligence through and through.
  23. An annual maintenance and a lifespan try to insure (as much as is possible), that the units in operation, are operating as designed, and to head off the eventual failure of the unit due to what ever. My TV was 4 years old and one day half the screen went black, the next day it was fine. Then two months later, half the screen went black again, and it was not that old. Circuit boards can crack, trances can crack from heating and cooling, solder joints can crack etc. I have repaired automotive electronics that stop working just by resoldering everything on the board. With a micro scope, if u know what you are looking for, you can see cracks in the solder that make an brake depending on temperature. Additionally, the baro transducers have a membrane that flexes as barometric pressure changes, and the data sheets usually will have a drift over time speck as the membrane ages and it’s flexibility changes. Now usually this drift is minimal, but it is possible to have some drift beyond the voltage reference’s ability to bring it back with in range when it is in for service, so it would have to be retired. Even the accelerometers can drift a bit over time and use. It is important to make sure all the instruments are indicating properly, because the software executes based on where it “thinks” it is. Yup! Sadly too many people go "durr" electronics should last forever and you'll should never have to touch a thing. MTBF can be quite long but nothing lasts forever.
  24. Once again reading the posts in the thread is alwys a good idea before posting.
