  1. Anyone can beat this caption? Trying to bring some positive light to the tornadoes happening in Alabama. This was taken today at my dad's ranch, a few days after a series of funnel clouds landed in the next county. _____________________________ "The trouble with quotes on the internet is that you can never know if they are genuine" - Abraham Lincoln

  5. Then life would get real boring fast. Or, now that I think about it. . . didn't Dr. Spock have to save thier asses ever episode? There was drama still. We are very advanced compared to the Dark Ages and we still have the same problems. _____________________________ "The trouble with quotes on the internet is that you can never know if they are genuine" - Abraham Lincoln
  6. John, Maybe I'm a little bit to bitter for letting those who experience pain through art not pay their respects. I apologise to you and to all who have. Didn't mean to shit on everyone. You aren't no fucking crybaby. You are a Man who feels loss. My greatest respect and condolences. 7. Military funerals are not fiction. And anyone who has ever attended one for a friend or family member will likely get tears when they see one repeated in a movie. One should not make light of that response. If you don't respect it, it just means you haven't experienced it yet. If you're really lucky, maybe you'll never have to learn to cry at a movie funeral. *sigh* (my post in support of Jumperdude's action did not post.) Bullshit. This military funeral was fiction. Even though it was based off of a lot of support by the Teams, it is still a suspension of belief. I am still active duty, and been for years. I have attended real Military Funerals with my Grandfather's (Battle of the Bulge) 101st Airborne (Army), Two uncles (Vietnam) and three Active Duty Iraq/Afghanistan Funerals at Ft Rosecrans and other non-national cemetaries, and a few others(family acquaintances) who served cold-war, Korean war .ect. . . I have the damn Ceremony down by heart. A work of fiction isn't real or as heartfelt. When you serve almost two decades, maybe you will understand. Movies just don't cut it and never will. You served before. Don't you remember talking to your Wife about how you want your funeral arranged if you bought it? Creamated or buried? Which cemetary, or by your family plot? The wills? The stress and the look in her eyes during the whole dam conversation? Tell me a damn move moves you! _____________________________ "The trouble with quotes on the internet is that you can never know if they are genuine" - Abraham Lincoln
  8. That's great Im sure it's hard work and very rewarding to see what the kids come up with....though i have to say some appear to be more parent built than kid built. But I'm done I'm never ever going to step in as the coach, the mentor, lead builder, main money guy and administrative problem solver. I got too wrapped up and when the kids would goof off while I was bleeding into the robot modifying it on the fly getting to pass inspection I did flip and scream and yell a bit to get them off their asses and help me out instead of just sitting there looking at me run back and forth from the robot to the tool box.....not a professional or adult thing to do and I do regret it...and i'm sure i'll get a nasty gram from the organization for it. But for the record im done. It was fun but I learned my lesson if the school and the majority of the parents show up and lend a hand from day one sure ok. If not then......it's just way too much work and too stressful for one person to wear all of those hats and to take care of the kids and to organize all the money and do the majority of the building. Yet all is not lost, since the kids got their robot on the field and did manage to land a few shots the school...next year will offer more than just busing and money processing. They are going to offer a coach and a place for the kids to build. So my job is done.....and now I'm 100% sure I'm never ever going to have kids of my own. I'm just not patient enough. I can only deal with them for a few hours at a time. ps Funny thing though, i did get an email from every single kid saying sorry for not helping me out when I was the only one working on the robot getting it fixed to pass inspection. Good kids, great kids......but....i'm never doing this again! 10 evening build....and wear all those hats at once.....no way no how i'm done! I don't know if you wouldn't want to do that again. But I am impressed with your efforts and your contributions. Good job brother. _____________________________ "The trouble with quotes on the internet is that you can never know if they are genuine" - Abraham Lincoln
  9. Meh. That was the original route I was going. maybe even thought the front crowed was a prop (more likely not with a low budget movie), or staged by some veteran group. But if some people are moved by a fictional movie . . whatever floats their boats. Good on them.
  10. Have you been stopped by one yet? http://blog.tsa.gov/2011/10/myth-buster-tsa-not-setting-up.html _____________________________ "The trouble with quotes on the internet is that you can never know if they are genuine" - Abraham Lincoln
  11. My youngest son is a professional (classical) percussionist, and does a great job with "Wipeout". Hopefully your son is not so sloppy with the "traditional grip" as displayed with those drummers. Him, being a classical percussionist though, I doubt it.

  13. If you want to be in San diego and not have to travel far, look for hotels or motels in Point Loma or Mission Valley area. There's no reason to go south or west of the City, I.E. chula vista, Imperial Beach, National City, El Cajon. ect. ect. These are all the bad parts of San Diego and have no attractions to speak of, unless you like to get robbed or need your Meth. Point loma and Mission valley are both within six miles from Downtown San diego, The Beaches such as Mission Beach Pacific Beach and Ocean Beach, and Balboa Park. Have fun! _____________________________ "The trouble with quotes on the internet is that you can never know if they are genuine" - Abraham Lincoln
  14. More than likely Lockheed at Groom Lake. But I can't disagree with what you say. . .though flying it over the Netherlands. . .the required fuel stops, the low operational ceiling, today's radar much better than it was thirty years ago. . .everyone and their Dutch moms would know of the F117 flying around. _____________________________ "The trouble with quotes on the internet is that you can never know if they are genuine" - Abraham Lincoln
  15. Yeah, right. If it's an asset that has value, it's going to be used, decommissioned or not. Might be in the "black" part (i.e., CIA, etc.) of the budget, though. By the first gulf war, it was already considered obsolete. it was great technology in the 70's and early 80's, but there's better ways to be stealthy. Yet variants of the U-2 continue to fly. Go fig. They are not stealth aircraft. Their "stealth" is a product of altitude. We still use B52's, P3 Orions also. The F117 claim of fame was "stealth", which it's manner is stealth is generations past obsoletism. The RCS technology used on these aircraft are older than the technology used on the common Navy destroyer twenty years ago. Today, it's just a high maintenance, low payload bomber. Now UAV's. . . _____________________________ "The trouble with quotes on the internet is that you can never know if they are genuine" - Abraham Lincoln

  18. Yup. The F117 has been decomissioned for some years now. _____________________________ "The trouble with quotes on the internet is that you can never know if they are genuine" - Abraham Lincoln
  19. God is great, beer is good, people are crazy... Must be nice to have a magic decoder ring. I must admit to some curiosity about what is going on here. Any way to share without getting too personal? Don He's pprobably the brightest guy on this site. I wouldn't be surprised. _____________________________ "The trouble with quotes on the internet is that you can never know if they are genuine" - Abraham Lincoln
  20. Meh, most of the SUV's today are really cars with more headspace. They are not even on truck frames anymore. Now pickups. Mine takes $90 to fill up, and if I have to drive to work for the week, about two fill ups. . .A little over $800 a month with my wife's car added. Van pools. Love them. _____________________________ "The trouble with quotes on the internet is that you can never know if they are genuine" - Abraham Lincoln
  21. Yup. but I like the exercise. We get some alternative or inexperienced opinions in the Navy sometimes. When they make mistakes and on their way up to an "Article 15" (We call it Captains Mast) we get some Speaker's Corners-esque validation of how things should be like. I don't blame them or hold an opinion on them, they just don't understand and are inexperienced in their area. When you don't have to live with the life or consequences, its easy to make an uninformed opinion. _____________________________ "The trouble with quotes on the internet is that you can never know if they are genuine" - Abraham Lincoln
  22. I agree. I wouldn't want my arms between me and the airbag. The seatbelt I wear is just a tad bit less restrictive than the seatbelt she is wearing. But it is not fists hitting the instrument cluster that she is concerned about. When the car hits something it can cause the wheels to turn and if you're holding on to the steering wheel it can break your thumbs, or worse. edit: I re-read your post and you already mentioned the danger of the steering wheel. I wonder how many broken thumbs/wrists those open wheelers experienced in the past before learning this counter-intuitive tidbit. I imagine those steering wheels rotate many revolutions at the speed that the wheel posts collapse in a hit; fast as a blink of an eye _____________________________ "The trouble with quotes on the internet is that you can never know if they are genuine" - Abraham Lincoln
  23. I think this doesn't apply in the commuter world. Regular cars don't have wheels severely extended from the frame. Bending of those posts can deflect the steering wheels faster than the tires being forced to turn on regular vehicles. I would rather have my hands on the steering wheel when I hit. It seems to me that having your arms between your chest and airbag would cause more injury than your fists hitting the instrument cluster. _____________________________ "The trouble with quotes on the internet is that you can never know if they are genuine" - Abraham Lincoln
  24. He gave no information to the enemy, he gave it to Wikileaks. Wikileaks has not been declared an enemy. For that matter, Afghanistan, the Taliban have not been declared enemies either......given that no formal declaration of war was implemented with either Iraq nor Afghanistan, I expect that the definition of 'enemy' is pretty muddled here. But as usual, the right wing is welcome to take away civil and human rights and avoid the Constitution when it suits them. Right Wing? Nope, its the military courts that is prosecuting him. How would you know the individual political leanings of the people in the JAG community? Reread (2) again. Especially the"directly or indirectly" part. Assange may not be the enemy but his organization allows for the enemy to have access. And Manning allowed for that the happen intentionally and purposely. Is this a stretch? It just may be. But the treason charge is one of several and being found not guilty for "aiding the enemy" by itself will not exonerate him. He broke a lot of rules that by themselves will keep him in jail for a long while. Besides, who says you have to be at war with the "enemy"? Remember the Cold War? And who said an enemy has to be a Nation? _____________________________ "The trouble with quotes on the internet is that you can never know if they are genuine" - Abraham Lincoln
