  1. Indeed. There are problems with that approach: (1) Funding it. Gotta raise a shitload of taxes. Can't win elections by doing that (2) Can't blame insurance companies for whatever goes wrong. It's an all in, "buck stops here" approach. (3) From whom will campaign contributions come? Oh yeah - unions. A whole new market of government employees to unionize. Makes me wonder why it didn't happen. The sky hasn't fallen in Sweden, Netherlands, Canada, Australia, Denmark, Germany... It just may well happen if we lose a lot of disposable income due to the considerable increase of taxes. Those countries rely on us heavily to buy their goods. _____________________________ "The trouble with quotes on the internet is that you can never know if they are genuine" - Abraham Lincoln
  2. I was not suggesting that they don't have this capability. I was thinking more along the lines of 18-year-olds (possibly) not having the emotional maturity to adequately deal with the traumatic situations they might encounter in wartime. Thereby putting them at a higher risk for PTSD, and associated problems such as alcohol abuse. But you're right; I'm not in the military, so I am not speaking with any authority. It's just something I have wondered about. Sorry, getting snippy again. Bad day. Young in age is one of the things that makes PTSD more succeptable. Race also has a factor as well as the type of support you have at home. _____________________________ "The trouble with quotes on the internet is that you can never know if they are genuine" - Abraham Lincoln
  3. Easy for you to say. You are not in the military and don't deal with this. 18 year olds have learned the dicipline and responsibility of Service in peacetime and wartime. They have that capability. What 18 year olds don't have is the capability to be responsible with alcohol. There's a difference between Service and drinking. _____________________________ "The trouble with quotes on the internet is that you can never know if they are genuine" - Abraham Lincoln
  4. Everything legalwise is the same age. This is about Age of Majority. Being able to legally drink alcohol has nothing to do with being a legal adult. It's about the legal age of being able to do a certain action. You can't run for President under the age of 34 here. You can't drink below the age of 21. But both are older than 18. _____________________________ "The trouble with quotes on the internet is that you can never know if they are genuine" - Abraham Lincoln

  6. Yuuuup....And Obama was big bucks. They marketed him to the same stupid people watching American idol and Jersey shore. Rock the Vote! It's a country fool of morons...majority rule. MmmmmHmmm. . .Yup. _____________________________ "The trouble with quotes on the internet is that you can never know if they are genuine" - Abraham Lincoln
  7. It is a compliment. He protrays himself as a maverick among corrupt snakes. I'll agree. I believe his intentions are morally sound. It's just that politics isn't his arena. He's bringing his hipprocratic oath to an arena that doesn't apply. About his being pushed out. They are pushing him. But he's letting them. His process isn't on par with the American political environment. This isn't the place for Eagle Scouts. He isn't playing the game. As I said before, he's not using the media the right way. You can't change the rules till you earn the top. He has not earned right to make a push in any progress or change till he learns the dicipline of the game, understands it, then on top, make the changes. He can't even make it to the top. Reminds me of those junior sailors that whines about Navy issues, but isn't willing to do the drudge of working their way to a position of having ability to effect change. he will never get the nomination now. He knows it, but he's still running. Just like as if to show the world that the world is against him. The reality is, its easier for him to be the underdog and get pathetic sympathy than to actually have a can-do attitude and run a real election. Only a few believe he's actually some sort of hero. Everyone else thinks he's a tool. _____________________________ "The trouble with quotes on the internet is that you can never know if they are genuine" - Abraham Lincoln

    Your first car

My first car was a 1984 mustang L. Took as much transmission fluid as it did gas. It could go 0 to 60 in about 60 minutes (bad compression), but provided you had enough fluids, never quit on you. In the late ninties, the transmission's main seal finally gave out. It cost more to fix it than it's value. _____________________________ "The trouble with quotes on the internet is that you can never know if they are genuine" - Abraham Lincoln
  9. Sum it all up. The news sources are Big Buisness. they are in it for the money. All news, including comedy, has thier own brand of spin for their own purposes. There is no such thing as "fair" with media owned by the stockholders. RP never even has to be allowed to be shown. So in the end. RP does not have the political power or the emotional intelligence to get the Media to work in his favor. He can't do that tidbit, he cant play with the big boys out in the world. They will eat him up. _____________________________ "The trouble with quotes on the internet is that you can never know if they are genuine" - Abraham Lincoln
  10. With debates, its the top runners who get the most time. If you paid attention to all candidates, you would realize that the bottom half always was asked on the least. Problem is, you are relying on a joke news source for your information. Their style of entertainment is for laughs and they spin it for laughs. Think about it, who is the goofiest bottom candidtates that is ignored? Makes for entertainment, doesn't it. _____________________________ "The trouble with quotes on the internet is that you can never know if they are genuine" - Abraham Lincoln

  12. RP's biggest problem is there is a 3 way, concerted effort between right, left, and the media to silence & ignore him. He didn't even get 90 seconds of air time on one debate. They pretend he can't get elected, and then when he almost wins Iowa (but doesnt) they play it up and create a self fulfilling prophecy with voters that might have picked him later. That's some conspiracy there! Truth is, the Left and Right and Media does not have to make it an "effort" to ignore him. It's very easy to ignore him. They don't have to "pretend" his unelectability, he really is unelectable. There seem to be some innocence in the people who champion this guy. Politics, in general, is about spin. But I doubt the words I put in quotations are intentional spin; but accidental spin because they have to believe that this great man is kept down rather than the reality. _____________________________ "The trouble with quotes on the internet is that you can never know if they are genuine" - Abraham Lincoln
  13. I disagree. People mature differently. Some clearly do not have the maturity to serve, fight or vote, simply based on the number of years they have been on the Earth. I have to agree here. People do mature differentely. Just because you are old enough to serve doesn't mean you are mature enough in different areas in life. We have problems with alchohol in people older than 21 here in the Service. Most common career killer. 18 year olds running into alchohol related incidents tend to be the standard here. It decreases readiness and ability to use them while they are serving their time for such incidents. At 18, being a brand new adult has its challenges and pitfalls that are easy to fall into. There's a huge difference between Protecting and Defending and personal responsibility. Believe it or not, you can achieve one while failing at the other. Hi, nanook! The quote you reference is mine, and I do agree that not everyone is equally mature at any given age. Your argument tends more toward the "don;t let any service-member have any alcohol no matter what the age" because they might not be able to handle it. The services are for (supposedly) adults. If we are still putting children there, then.... Ouch. Good point. I can't take away that logic from you. The problem here is there is a fine line between making adult decisions and risks, and at the same time not having the maturity to know when to say when. We have young adults making dangerous life altering decisions that most people will never make in their lives. Firing someone with four kids does not come close. But, the same cannot handle the responsibilities of alcohol use. There is theory in responsibilities and maturity and there is reality. History shows that 18 year olds are not responsible enough as a majority to have alchohol within their reach. Hell, 21 year olds are on average, stupid with that decision. In the Navy, despite their service, alchohol availablility is a negative catalyst for that age group and has to be actively controlled just to keep them responsible. They cannot do this on their own. This is fact. Has nothing to do with being an adult, but with being a new adult with a hell of a lot of responsibility put on them. _____________________________ "The trouble with quotes on the internet is that you can never know if they are genuine" - Abraham Lincoln

  18. I've been getting a lot of credit card offers in the mail recently, the Chase Ink, some card called the "Thank You", some Capital One cards, and the granddaddy cheesiest offer of them all: The Visa Black. Complete with the huge black envelope and the promise of prestige. All I have to do is pay $495 a year and women wearing black form-fitting clothes in a french black helicopter will come to sleep with me. Go Marketing!! So does anyone have a Sapphire card? It doesn't appear to be a cheesy card pandering to fake prestige. I have an AMEX Platinum that I haven't been using a lot lately and have considered downgrading to a Gold or even Green. It was very useful with emergency services with rental properties that I had and am traveling a lot less and now not making enough points to cover the cost of the annual fee. I'm looking for something better but with enough spending ability to cover sudden expensive costs of doing business. Anyone have experience with this card? _____________________________ "The trouble with quotes on the internet is that you can never know if they are genuine" - Abraham Lincoln
  19. Why should he have been criticized? you people are fucked in the head...I would've lost it too... I'm just posting the why. In a perfect world,he shouldn't have been criticized. He didn't expect this to go viral but it did. And since it was all over the internet, everyone could now have a snide remark to put in. _____________________________ "The trouble with quotes on the internet is that you can never know if they are genuine" - Abraham Lincoln

  22. They did. Let me summarize for you: U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics say's that unemployment is down and pay is up, however, the amount of taxes collected by state and federal governments is down (even citing California as an example, and you know they don't lower taxes). He is asking why. Can you explain this discrepancy? Depends how they collect tax data. If by tax returns this year: Those were last year's income. If based on what has been collected by pay stub reports to the IRS: Unearned income takes large hits during downturns and a good number of top 10% who pay a large chunk of the revenue have the highest concentration of this type of income. _____________________________ "The trouble with quotes on the internet is that you can never know if they are genuine" - Abraham Lincoln

  25. The themes leaned on is art/movies imitating technological advancement. For example, Star Trek is a product of producers using popular science to create a backdrop for a story. Entertainment being the important purpose rather than educating. But it may help to inspire. Engineers and scientists are forever tooling with processes that help, support and (sometimes) educate the general public and make lives easier for them. They will never fail us as they are creating advancements in science and technology and are not letting future explorations and feats move towards entropy. There will always be inspiration and a confident person to push it forward. The dusty English books are important, but the Maths and Sciences are the hardest subjects to master, relatively speaking. That's why it is being stressed more. It's just easier to get an english education over a science education. Don't be let down by popular desires overiding inspiration to advance. _____________________________ "The trouble with quotes on the internet is that you can never know if they are genuine" - Abraham Lincoln
