  1. great job! 2 things: 1) I assume we will see a list of participants in next month's publications (sooner?)? 2) Since John Kallend can't receive PM's, I'm intrigued by a frame of mind that recognizes something as mundane as consecutive odd primes in the context of a world record. It occurs to me that there is no such thing as consecutive even primes, since the only even prime (positive) is 2. | I don't drink during the day, so I don't know what it is about this airline. 2. My nephew is going into the Navy to train to make the cut to be a Seal. He will be taking a jump course as result. I think it's a safe bet that he will be my only blood relative to make a jump in my lifetime. | I don't drink during the day, so I don't know what it is about this airline. 3. Some of us get as big and symetrical as we can and are half-sitting-up looking at the horizon when we prepare for opening. It's almost like the stand but maybe a bit slower fall rate. Seems to work well and is also less likely to whiplash than being totally flat. | I don't drink during the day, so I don't know what it is about this airline. 4. But John, aren't you flattered that they thought you were in on the 372 way? | I don't drink during the day, so I don't know what it is about this airline. I keep falling out the door of the plane. Harry, FB #4143
  5. In warm weather I usually jump in Tevas. They can be fastened loosely enough for comfort, yet snugly enough so they will not come off and hit some one. The Velcro holds up better than on some of the leather-type sandals. | I don't drink during the day, so I don't know what it is about this airline. I keep falling out the door of the plane. 6. Why in blazes would you not have my support? I'm not really a free-styler, but I'm recommending they let you compete. Besides, there are one or two Parachutists from last year anyone can pick up and see for themselves. I'm a shameless sycophant! That's my endorsement and here are my credentials: D-25528 FB-4143 USPA 141791 Harry Q. Higbie | I don't drink during the day, so I don't know what it is about this airline. 7. As a practical matter, sometimes the pilot chute bridle will "walk" a little bit, depending upon it and the condition of the kill line. After the canopy is put down after flaking and rolling, I still feel more comfortable cocking the pilot chute one more time (often only at that time) so i'm sure it's all the way out. For this reason and the fact that the pilot chute is a normal part of the pack job, I don't think the packer should be upset just because it wasn't cocked. Just my practice. The truth is, though, I have never watched every time to see that the packer did it. | I don't drink during the day, so I don't know what it is about this airline. 8. Often tip packer $1/pack and stow/cock stuff. Keeps packer happier and allows for faster packs. Most of the time I pack myself, however. Never hurts to be good to your packer. Mebe buy a water for him/her or something as well. | I don't drink during the day, so I don't know what it is about this airline. I keep falling out the door of the plane. Harry, FB #4143
  9. Chris, Anywhere I jump that is generally true. However, if there are NO outs at the plane's current location (rare), then leaving the plane in that location is probably a bad idea anyway, whether or not the green light is on. So in that case it behooves the jumper to NOT leave the plane. Looked at that way as well, you could say that a bad spot does not cause injuries, since the jumper also has a role. | I don't drink during the day, so I don't know what it is about this airline. 10. Will we ever EVER get to jump the jet again? I am worried that they won't get insurance coverage and won't risk it, just like before. I never did it but want to. | I don't drink during the day, so I don't know what it is about this airline. I keep falling out the door of the plane. Harry, FB #4143
  11. As far as I know, the time limit is being challenged now to build head-down big ways. That would mean people would have to fly better than they do now to beat the shorter working time and yet get more people in. In head down there are such small tolerances in docking speed. Maybe that closes my mind to imagining head-down ways even double the size we have seen now. But it may happen. There was a head-down 4 way sequential scramble at ZHills on Thanksgiving. A friend of mine who participated said it was a real challenge if all the players on the team weren't pretty experienced. | I don't drink during the day, so I don't know what it is about this airline. 12. Let's take this a step further and say that someone wanted to jump into a lakefront recreational park along the shore of Lake Michigan in a certain large US city. There is no special event at the time. Assuming that the alert level does not restrict pilots below 3500 or 3000 feet, my take is that the park district or the city may get mad. If I thought that neither of these would be a problem, I'd try when the weather warmed up. Oh well. | I don't drink during the day, so I don't know what it is about this airline. 13. To add to what Ron said, I'd like to ask why anyone would suggest you wait 'til 1,000 feet to chop, given that you are right on the edge of the Cypres-arming altitude range (assuming you turned it on, you might owe your rigger for a new knife for the Cypres)? This is one of those things where it is a theoretically possible situation, but the risks and potential costs of deliberately putting yourself in it probably aren't worth it. I'd advise a pratice harness if you want to practice cutaways. If you want to do it in the air, I think that technically you are supposed to have one more canopy than you plan on jumping, so you need a backup reserve. Just my thoughts. | I don't drink during the day, so I don't know what it is about this airline. I keep falling out the door of the plane. Harry, FB #4143
  14. The packing practice idea is a good one. In general, besides temperature, you may want to repack if there was some moisture on the canopy, such as having jumped on a humid day or dragged the canopy through some moisture in the landing area. Also, AAD batteries last longer (like any battery) if they are not stored in the kind of temperatures found in the Great White North for extended periods. | I don't drink during the day, so I don't know what it is about this airline. 16. I kind of agree. This thread has been worked over pretty hard. | I don't drink during the day, so I don't know what it is about this airline. I keep falling out the door of the plane. Harry, FB #4143
  17. About 350, down from just under 400 last year. I don't do much 4-way video anymore (don't have any instructors' ratings), but 2003 was the year that I finally had a few good head-down jumps towards the end. Mostly free-fly with a few R/W jumps, mainly because when I started jumping I did a lot of R/W. Some of these R/W folks say they won't do VRW (free fly), but they are my highly valued friends also so I will always find some time to jump with them. The friends will always keep you coming back, even if you're sometimes not sure the weather is good enough to go up. | I don't drink during the day, so I don't know what it is about this airline. 18. I didn't answer the poll because there are multiple answers that I think qualify. Sometimes "free flying" is referred to as VRW. It includes sit, stand, and head down, and maybe some variations such as back flying or other stuff I hadn't necessarily thought of. "Free flying" is just a subjective term that came to be, and there has been a lot written about what this type of flying should be called. Just get out, relax, and fly, improving as you go. Don't worry about it. | I don't drink during the day, so I don't know what it is about this airline. I keep falling out the door of the plane. Harry, FB #4143
  19. Summer skydive gloves with thin Walmart fabric liners provide me with enough warmth down to about 30 degrees F on the ground, and still allow enough mobility to fly the canopy. This also assumes that there is not a really steep temperature gradient going up to altitude that would amplify the cold in freefall. | I don't drink during the day, so I don't know what it is about this airline. 20. One thing I find whuffos least understand is that there are disciplines that involve flying relative and that people can actually get together and dock. In conversations I have had, this has come up many times. People often don't understand that this level of control in the air is possible. | I don't drink during the day, so I don't know what it is about this airline. 21. I have landed with the plane, but never in it. I wouldn't dare try to pilot my canopy through that little door. | I don't drink during the day, so I don't know what it is about this airline. I keep falling out the door of the plane. Harry, FB #4143
  22. The going rates in places I've been is $5, although we are seeing a bit more $6 requirements for 170ft2 + canopies. | I don't drink during the day, so I don't know what it is about this airline. I keep falling out the door of the plane. Harry, FB #4143
