  1. anything you read on break.com has a very inaccurate description.
  2. From Source who has been skydiving since: *04/30/2011* "The skydive accident that caused the loss of my left arms feeling due to nerves being severed from spine, which I am still waiting for the amputation confirmation date. All I remember is looking over at the pit and seeing the trailer and wanting to avoid it. Upon exiting the plain the winds on the ground were at 11 mph due west. Coming in on landing I did a pen check and was being blown backwards from the west and crosswinds from the north. The winds at the time of the crash were all over, varying from west and north anywhere from 20 mph to gust of 28 mph. The GoPro camera I was using makes it look like I am farther away from the trailer than i really am. I had a small window of time to make a decision attempt to miss the trailer or due a low turn and pitch myself into the ground with a down draft and traveling at around 45 mph. I am here posting this video so as far as I'm concerned it was the right decision at the time. In truth, I PROBABLY SHOULDN'T BE ALIVE... I DO NOT REMEMBER ANYTHING AFTER THAT ALL I DO IS WATCH THE VIDEO!" can you believe this guy thinks he made the right decision at the right time? hes about to have his arm amputated.
  3. i bet he cleared it really quick. no big deal, easily preventable next time around.
  4. what size container is it? i have a W8 that fit a 150 tight.
  5. 5 minutes if im in a hurry (assuming i stow my toggles right after i land), i dont flake any more. i grab a's and b's in one hand, c's and d's in there other, and give it a good shake. my openings have been alot better and consistent doing it this way. canopy is a safire 2 119
  6. Greg Windmiller runs an awesome course, i know plenty of people that have taken other courses and learned alot more with him. I didnt think i could get much more performance from my canopy, until i took Gregs course. He changed that. Also learned some stuff that i ended saving my ass.
  7. Nav 220 -4 jumps Nav 200 - 30 jumps Spectre 190 -4 jumps Spectre 170 - 1 jump Safire 2 149 - 100 jumps Safire 2 119 - 45 and counting
  8. i see you caught your miscalc. i was gonna say, i just checked my neptune and i have 6 hours of canopy time. 6 hours of canopytime at 155 jumps? Did you use the neptune from jump 1? Im only asking because of the canopytime per jump on average. My calculation was 5 min per jump, but i think that is to much. I would think 2.5-3 min is more correct, but 5 was easier to calculate i started using it around jump number 50
  9. i see you caught your miscalc. i was gonna say, i just checked my neptune and i have 6 hours of canopy time.
  10. i had a similar incident doing a hop n pop from 3k. line twist on opening and got thrown on my back, my immediate reaction was to grab the cutaway, but before i was gonna chop it, i looked and realized it was just line twists, so i didnt chop it and easily kicked my way out of it.
  11. I would always opt not to send a rig out without recieving the money. Have a conversation over the phone, ask them to explain all the negative things about it. And verify it with pictures of its current condition. or have your own rigger inspect it and call the guy. And of course always use paypal, so if the rig is out of wack with what you thought you were buying, you will have some protection. I realize people have been doing the "send it to my rigger" method for a long time. Buts its your rig, your money, you can sell it on any terms you want.
  12. speedflying is probably what you want to look into.
  13. so no alarms set and it will stay on? i just wore my analog b/c i was worried about this, id like to use the neptune though.
  14. CPI had a pretty good turnout http://www.skydivingstills.com/Skydiving/2011/Safety-Day-2011/16170348_V9VJM#1214226917_qgqeW-L-LB
  15. just made some jumps back here in CT. well the 119 sure didnt feel as fast as it did out at the CO dz i jumped at.
  16. It's a huge deal. It's like going 1-2 sizes smaller depending on temperature. When my home DZ was over 5000 feet MSL (with density altitudes to 8000-9000 feet MSL in the summer) we'd tell people things were different, that their turns needed to start higher, not to go big until they figured it out and a disproportionate number went away in ambulances. for swooping i can see it being a big deal, regular landings really didnt seem that different.
  17. Why does everyone want a jumpsuit first? You can skydive without one, you can't skydive without a rig. I would get the rig first.
  18. I totally disagree. It's been, in my experience, at LEAST 1 downsize in my turn altitudes and flying style. Ian perhaps the colder temperature made it not that noticable. guess ill just have to visit out here in the summer time.
  19. i dont think theres much of a big deal to be made about the altitude. I downsized to a 119 and my first jump on it was at a DZ located 5500ft ASL. i usually jump at a dz thats 240ft above. i dont think theres much to worry about going to a higher altitude dz. i think saying its like downsizing is a little overstepping it.
  20. I use a cardo system in my motorcycle helmet and use it to accept phone calls and communicate with my riding buddy who also has one. Works really good. So i was thinking about AFF. I think it would be a good advantage to be able to talk to the student in freefall instead of hand signals. What do you all think? if you dont know what a carido is then here is a link http://www.cardosystems.com/us/homepage Its probably not necessary for every AFF, but maybe the people having difficulty. and obviously it needs to be a full face helmet.
  21. now they just need to get the visor right. jumped with a guy on sunday whose flipped right OFF in freefall.
  22. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iRKgbE2fiHE My opening with a safire 2 149,
  23. What did you jump before this? how can you not like those openings? If i was a rep at Icaurus canopies, i would be looking at your email, trying to figure out the nicest way to say your rediculous and have no idea what your talking about. try posting on thier Facebook page.
