  1. I took Eddie Munster, all grown up now, on a tandem 3 years ago. He seemed a nice enough guy..
  2. Had a similar discussion for side door vs tailgate. Usually it ends up as the individual Instructors preference based on input from other I 's.
  3. Why not put the IRM on the USPA website and then everybody would know and have the reference for it? We've only been doing AFF since '83. Is it a secret?
  4. If you need some in-depth info, you might want to talk to Jim Wallace. He did drogue-less tandem RW (2 tandems docking) for the movie Bucket List. They probably did 10-15 practice jumps with staggered drouge throws after attempting RW. Craig O'brien did the camera work while head-down and then digitally inverted the film. I seem to recall Morgan Freeman's stunt double was good size, so they were probably going pretty fast!
  5. "Oh No, Mister Hands! He's going to be mean to me!" I loved those skits...
  6. I know this pretty old school but does anybody still make bungee pilot chutes? Was told mine is not repairable but wanted to see if anybody sells them new before I go thru the effort of fixing it myself.
  7. Rob, c'mon, how long did you work for Sandy and RI? And no comments on RI rigs? :)
  8. Try to get in contact with Mary Tortamasi at Perris. One of the few they allowed to sky surf in the wind tunnel.
  9. i was there for that one, but not on the load. I've see 2 versions of the photo. One with the tail number and one with it airbrushed out.
  10. Pretty cool! We had a guy set up a table and do them during the show at our Numismatic Assoc. of Southern California (NASC) coin show last year. It was fun to watch him work.
  11. Jim Wallace did his training and also was his stunt double for a lot of the scenes. Someone should ask him what gear was used and whether or not this is the gear from the movie. Patricks brother Don would also possibly have info on the gear.
  12. I remember a conversation with the DZO and another very experienced TI over whether the winds were too high. The DZO said "The fact that we are standing here talking about it, means the winds are too high!"
  13. The first time I packed my Paracommander on my own, as I was packing I watched a jumper go in towing a streamer! He wasn't killed but got busted up pretty good. I think that was the longest and best pack job I ever did. Later when I got pretty good, I was always the guy trying to be done first. When you have the routine down smoothly, then you'll get faster and neater.
  14. Me and my wife Cathy, met on the DZ, got married on the DZ, and just celebrated our 20th wedding anniversary!
  15. I'm almost 60 and I think I'm on #10. But being military, a lot of times it was easier to get another vehicle at the new duty station than have one shipped.
  16. We trained and jumped an 82 year old ex-fighter pilot and he did OK. You have to evaluate the student both before the the training and during, then decide whether they can perform the tasks needed.
  17. Darn ! The second one would have been so much more fun to watch!:)
  18. That's the good one! I think he is looking for the one out of a C-130 that didn't go so well! I know at one time that the 4 AFF Course Directors each had a copy but they wouldn't allow anyone to have a copy that included any of the "bad" footage. I haven't seen that footage in a long time, hopefully it hasn't been lost.
  19. We have a 20 acre backyard and I came out one morning to feed the horses and goats. There was a 6 ft tall emu walking around and making growling noises. We called animal control and they said he had escaped months earlier from a local ranch and that they occasionally got calls reporting him. They also said the growling noises where him actually being happy, like a cat purring! We managed to herd him into a 5' tall horse pen but he looked at it for half a second and jumped over it. He wandered off long before animal control got there.
  20. I've deliberately left it off for a couple of jumps from aerobatic aircraft that did a lot of diving and/or inverted stuff before jumping. I've also left it off for a few demos where the elevation difference of the take-off and landing area wasn't known or where it was a hop-n-pop and it wasn't worth the effort to set the offset. But I had over 1500 jumps without an aad so I am not paranoid about jumping without.
  21. When, not only do you know what a Paralert is, the local gear store sends you the new kid that bought one off of e-bay to show him how to set it!
  22. Just tried again and popped right up. Probably a ghost in the machine!
  23. So is anyone else having problems logging on from an I-pad? When I bring up the log-in screen there is no link box to enter a username and password. Its only on my I-pad not my MAC. This is probably the wrong forum so feel free to delete or move if needed.
  24. What about aircraft where you hook up on the way to altitude? With bench seats we usually had our students seated next to us and then hooked up around 8K. When I did tandems I usually left the harness a little loose for their comfort and at hookup tightened the MLW about an inch or two, then tightened the back diagonals till their hip rings were even with my hips. Kept them even with me torso-wise and there was less tension in the side-straps. But that was just me. I've seen any variety of harness adjustment styles over the years...
