  1. It would go over well at Eloy most days too.. ____________________________________ Those who fail to learn from the past are simply Doomed.
  2. LOTS more PFL practice. Anyone with that much martial arts experience should have a better idea how to fall properly. Its a lifesaving skill. ____________________________________ Those who fail to learn from the past are simply Doomed.
  3. Goes to check some sheet music.....yup all the NOTES are black. ____________________________________ Those who fail to learn from the past are simply Doomed.
  4. Cant argue with any of those choices. I've seen all of the above several times and in fact I saw two of them in the same night in Vegas recently... point was POPULARITY is a poor metric for excellence or difficulty be it sports, music, literature, pretty much any human endeavor you can fairly well count on that more widely it is liked the more mediocre it is as well. ____________________________________ Those who fail to learn from the past are simply Doomed.
  5. ah yes, because popularity is what determines difficulty or excellence. Google 'lowest common denominator' while you are at it or man up to the 'fact' that in 'your world' Britney Spears and Michael Jackson are the best musicians EVER. ____________________________________ Those who fail to learn from the past are simply Doomed.
  6. whats the weather like on your planet? you want brutal, in ireland we have a national sport called hurling, id put a hurling team up against your american football teams any day of the week and id have a hard time choosing between a hurling team and a rugby team but the rugby guys would probably ease ahead due to sheer bulk rather then toughness bulk Just for the record, I think Hurling is feckin' A COOL! The first time I saw it I wished we had it here. It looks like a blast to play. But it's nothing compared to our football. No sport compares. And that's a fact. I'm just sayin'. Keep saying, keep pretending its truth too... a 11 whole minutes of running? over the course of 3-4 hours? why dont you try running up and down a soccer field for 90 min? think you can sprint faster than those 'little girls' after the first 20? and you are dead wrong anyway, the most brutal sport in the world is called BASE. what is the fatality rate in football? or any other so called 'sport'? (for that matter skydiving is more brutal than your beloved football.) so much for 'facts'. ____________________________________ Those who fail to learn from the past are simply Doomed.

  8. No assumption involved, notice the keywords TESTED and PROVE. Training methods for endurance are entirely different for power or speed, NFL players are extremely specialized, obscenely so even IMO it would be a far better sporting event if everyone had to play every position at some point as the TEAM would shine through more than a couple of superstar positions. ____________________________________ Those who fail to learn from the past are simply Doomed.
  9. It would look like whatever every individual chooses to make it look like. Those that want a rough-and-tumble free for all, can have it. Those who want to limit what they see, can have that too. It seems like an ideal win-win proposal to me. actually it wouldn't, if you've ever been apart of forums with such features the topics become completely disjointed and difficult to follow as posters you can see respond to posters you have filtered and vice versa, you end up having to turn it on and off all the time to follow the flow of conversation (assuming you want to participate in the discussion) It also means that pretty much all threads end up being soliloquy in series vs actual discussion, as the 'opposing factions' post and write on to those who dont have them blocked. the only real answer that works long term and keeps the discussion and debate intact is active moderation to keep threads on topic and squash the obvious personal cat fights that erupt between regular offenders. Warn them twice and boot them if they aren't 'playing the ball' or continually drag threads off topic (presuming political discussion is the point of the subforum) it requires a lot more work and some level of balance between moderators with opposing view points (a 'head referee' so to speak) which means alot more overhead for a site that is fundamentally about skydiving and not political debate. ____________________________________ Those who fail to learn from the past are simply Doomed.
  10. Having taken a self imposed break from DZ.com a while back, and spent a few hours catching up on threads in SC, I'd have to say that already happened years ago. ____________________________________ Those who fail to learn from the past are simply Doomed.
  11. not that it rarely gets tested to prove.... http://online.wsj.com/article/SB10001424052748704281204575002852055561406.html you sat in front of the TV for 4 hours for WHAT? 11 Minutes of play? If it werent for NFL lawyers and copyright laws Youtube would kill football as a media sport. ____________________________________ Those who fail to learn from the past are simply Doomed.
  12. A guy who worked as an orderly in a Chicago hospital told me about a female patient who was brought in "having a pop bottle". A vacuum had formed, and she was unable to remove it. The doctor drilled a hole in the protruding base of the bottle, releasing the vacuum, enabling removal. This one of those subjects that seems to come up every few years in one group or another, a group of fencers I knew included several surgeons and nurses who had many many 'horror stories of hotdogs, 'lost eggs' (an ex military/ER trama nurse who really missed his calling as a comedian came back with the Xrays when a patient was admitted complaining of abdominal pain and asked "So I know what the problem is, do you want it removed or the batteries changed?) however, the worst was.... apparently a woman thought a dildo made of ice would be an interesting experience unfortunately for her, ice that isn't made under rather controlled conditions (steady vibration) will trap lots of air bubbles, the friction caused by her activity melted/shattered the ice abruptly resulting in hundreds of tiny sharp edges. Apparently she was hemorrhaging very badly and nearly died before they could stop all the bleeding. NOT a good idea. ____________________________________ Those who fail to learn from the past are simply Doomed.

  14. My Father loves this show even... I gave him the DVD set and watched the first couple with him... told him "It's a Western in a spaceship... seriously, give it a chance." He finished the series in less than a month (he NEVER really watches TV) and has watched it on and off several times since. ____________________________________ Those who fail to learn from the past are simply Doomed.
  15. "God said so" has pretty much been the excuse to pass blame for anything anyone has wanted to do since man discovered fire. Until I see it Written in fire in letters thirty feet high I'm not buying anyone else's game of divine telephone tag. ____________________________________ Those who fail to learn from the past are simply Doomed.
  16. Who here remembers Mark in the old Calvin Klein ads? He managed to look sexy and adorable all at once. Hello Mark I don't really have a thing for any actors or singers. Nor, have I seen Mark Wahlberg in a while, but so what if he's aged. Who hasn't? I doubt that I would kick him out of my bed, then or now. as he was supposed to play me in the DZ.com movie way back, I think I'll do my own stunts for that scene ofc it would also the only scene they wouldn't have to use the 'tom cruise soap box' shooting technique as I've got a foot of altitude over him ____________________________________ Those who fail to learn from the past are simply Doomed.
  17. tl:dr the shipper fucked up by not specifying the details about handling delivery prior to shipping If special handling isnt in the SHIPPING INSTRUCTIONS, it doesnt matter what is on the box itself (people reuse boxes all the time) You can set up scheduled deliveries to ENSURE you will be present at the time the package is delivered. It costs extra, but if you really want to be sure you got it that and requiring a signature (from a specific person) are always good ideas. ____________________________________ Those who fail to learn from the past are simply Doomed.

  21. because the unfortunate truth is belief in 'Right & Reward' is the only motivatation most humans understand and respond to enough to endure the process of learning about themselves to improve their lives (and the lives of others if they make it far enough down whatever 'path' they chose to follow.) None of them are 'correct'. Not one. There is no evidence (despite the Christian's continual misunderstanding and misuse of the word as illustrated above) to support ANY religious belief or claim of 'Truth or Correctness'. However the results of applying oneself to PROCESS of exploring (pretty much all currently existing religions) are demonstrable and clear. Unfortunately the process itself is subject to abuse and control like every other form of social engineering, particularly when applied to the weak willed who have no real desire to seek answers but would rather be told what to do... the sheep metaphor is incredibly applicable to nearly all who profess religious fervor, the zealots who proclaim 'Right & Correct' to reinforce their own doubts and insecurities in the comfort of the herd. ____________________________________ Those who fail to learn from the past are simply Doomed.
  22. It is splitting a very fine hair when your choices are 1. Attend a Religious service (particularly of a Religion you aren't a member of aka Christian) 2. Clean the latrines (that everyone of all religions use) while everyone else is at a religious service. However if the soldiers in question were motivated enough to propose an acceptable alternative and it was denied them, then they are infact being punished for not attending. Ft Sill had (then it does now in part because attention was drawn to the fact it was lacking acceptable alternatives) no Buddhist services when I went through basic, it took a letter and a couple of phone calls from flag grade officers, but I (and several others who eventually joined me including one DrillSGT) was allowed to meditate on the PT field while the Christians held their religious observations in the chapel. ofc it helped immensely that I was well aware of my rights with respect to religious observances and had access to flag grade officers to ensure my direct superiors respected my rights. ____________________________________ Those who fail to learn from the past are simply Doomed.
  23. again you repeat your errors in assumption, and add another (since you appear to have trouble perceiving the basics, I've highlighted them for you as well as one that is possibly my own in this sentence. You are up to three in this post alone at this point) No I didn't make any reference to veterans organizations. Of course you are free to assume I'm not, if so you should up your error count to four. I have no need to brag or live in the past in the manner you so clearly do. I train soldiers, airmen and marines on a daily basis and so am regularly witness to damage the misuse of the military is causing. The military is a tool, it is foolish to be displeased with a tool when fault lies with the hand that wields it. My disdain is for the waste, the damage and therefore the willful disregard of life caused in the misuse of the tool by the hand that wield it. I will have a nice day. I'm going to jump. In like spirit with your 'nice day', enjoy sitting on your retired rump recalling your 'glory years' as a skydiver and serviceman, some of us haven't given up on living life or improving it for others. ____________________________________ Those who fail to learn from the past are simply Doomed.
  24. And you know nothing about him, yet assume much. Incorrect. His meaning is either plain by his postings or he is a fabulous skilled troll. I suspect he is a man. Of his word as written and as such there is no assuming anything other than what he posts. He on the other hand presumes that all veterans nod in agreement with his viewpoint and reasoning. Fact is veterans are individuals like everyone else and Not subject to the group think view point expresses when he pretends he speaks for all of us. OK, let's have a review. The following is a complete quote of my first post to you. Show me where I was in error. You seem tense. I guess your military service was not a pleasant time and you did not make close friends in your unit. At any rate, thank you for your service. I don't suppose I'll be seeing you at veteran organizations or gatherings. Also, you, and others as I have noted, missed the point of the OP at the start. My reply First Error, your first post to me was #32: Fundamental Error: The assumption that because I disagree with you I've never served, or that my service is some how 'lacking' because I didnt get the same 'message' from it that you did. Fact is, military service ALONE, doesn't not make one a hero, some of the worst dirtbags in history have been military veterans, and more often than not those who claim 'glory' in their military service are some of the worst offenders. WHAT YOU DO TODAY, not what job you have, not what job you HAD, not what job you personally define your life as(as many former veterans do, relying on past 'glory' they rarely earned personally), and certainly not (as you've claimed often as recently in this thread) what flag you wore on your sleeve or fly over your house, is what matters. Yesterday is over, tomorrow is a whisper that may never appear, what did you do TODAY to prove your worth? Right here, right now, not gathering together to pat each other on the back and tell 'there I was stories' is the only thing that makes a difference at all. Honoring the dead has its place, and those who would use the death of another to make a political statement are stealing oxygen from anyone with a shred of honor and dignity, but perhaps doing more to prevent the lives of the deceased from being thrown away in useless political conflict in the first place would be a better use of your time. Oh wait, I forget, that requires actual action NOW to shape tomorrow, instead of borrowing reflected glory from the sacrifice already made. Your entire attitude is 'in error', the sword of the US Military is being wasted to no good cause by the politicians who wield it, and all you do is show up after the fact. ____________________________________ Those who fail to learn from the past are simply Doomed.
