  1. Quite alot of those equate to "giving up" I don't let laps around the sun determine what activities I do and neither should you regardless of how many you've made recently (so when the fuck is someone going to optimize this forum for mobile? It's 2013 and this interface is terrible on mobile devices) ____________________________________ Those who fail to learn from the past are simply Doomed.

  3. I'd say this is all an elaborate troll, but experience has revealed people really are this stupid. I would suggest,as others have, that you take up bowling but that ball return process can be tricky, wouldn't want you to claim I set you up for a broken finger. ____________________________________ Those who fail to learn from the past are simply Doomed.

  5. Even If I wanted to answer that, I would have to peruse this incident much more than I have reading this thread on DZ.com IMO it is kind of irrelevant to talk about legal action. I doubt that there is ever going to be any. I merely wanted to say that based on the little info I have on this, I understand both sides here, and since you are so keen on only seeing the other side of this I wanted you to know that perhaps Im not as misinformed on my opinions as you thought I am. Thats all. I spent nearly 2 hours talking to a lawyer and a judge (who is also a veteran) about this last night as its been going around a number of different webforums, they are regulars at the bar and know I'm a skydiver they brought it up. Both of their first statements were to the effect of "What the fuck is this guy on about?" they were completely baffled that this guy thought he had a leg to stand on. as it continues, its pretty clear what he's on about; shameless self promotion and attention seeking at the expense of the DZ's reputation. ____________________________________ Those who fail to learn from the past are simply Doomed.
  6. and that is ultimately all that matters as a business owner. You are going to spend maybe a couple of hundred bucks, they are going to spend several thousand. You aren't keeping the lights on even much less paying employees and fuel. If no one else showed up at all while they were there the DZ would still run, who do you think is going to get greater consideration? Its simple economics under a capitalist system. I've a number of shirts that are/could be considered offensive to a number of different groups. If a business owner asks me to cover them or leave because it is affecting their business they are perfectly within their rights as a business owner. Making a fuss about it or pretending that I've suffered some great injustice because of what I CHOSE would just make me a douchebag. ____________________________________ Those who fail to learn from the past are simply Doomed.
  7. So you think you could win his case? Do you think he even has a case? I'll stick with the opinions of actual practicing lawyers vs those who havent passed the bar thanks. ____________________________________ Those who fail to learn from the past are simply Doomed.

  10. Further illustrating how the standard of professionalism has fallen among the US Military. Were the Quatris being asses? Absolutely, but I don't hold them to the same level of professionalism, they are not US and don't represent the traditions and standards of the US Military I belonged to and support daily. This guy is an embarrassment. Suck it up cupcake. ____________________________________ Those who fail to learn from the past are simply Doomed.
  11. This. As a veteran this guy is an embarrassment no matter what hes been through. Nothing justifies his blatant self promotion or entitled attitude. He certainly wasn't trained to be this kind of jackass and it reflects poorly on everyone who remembers what professional means. ____________________________________ Those who fail to learn from the past are simply Doomed.

  13. Freedom of religion is an internatinally recognized human right. Like I said it contains the right to belong to a religious group, and it contains the right to NOT belong to a religious group. This person expressed his human right for the latter. IMO it is very much a protected class. Bwaaaahhhhhhaaahhh, your opinion is not law and is clearly poorly informed based on the content of that post alone. ____________________________________ Those who fail to learn from the past are simply Doomed.
  14. Yes, and what Im saying is that the business decision was discriminating. Discrimination is not illegal unless it is done based on a protected class. Tattooed is not a protected class. More to the topic "spending less" than others is not a protected class, big spenders always get better consideration and service under capitalism. ____________________________________ Those who fail to learn from the past are simply Doomed.
  15. This. He was given an option, apparently his desire to display his tattoo is stronger than his desire to skydive. This isn't a religious discussion at all, it's simple economics. Money talks and gets higher consideration by most businesses or they don't stay in busines s long. When "Team Infidel" is spending thousands a week they will get primary consideration for their whims. It's called capitalism. ____________________________________ Those who fail to learn from the past are simply Doomed.
  16. this. I can always see every imperfection in my own work, to the point it is all I see when I look at it. ____________________________________ Those who fail to learn from the past are simply Doomed.
  17. Stick still firmly up ass. Cunt is a term of endearment for a great many people. If you don't like it you are free not to use it, but your attempt to belittle those who use it "friendly" is misplaced and unwarranted. ____________________________________ Those who fail to learn from the past are simply Doomed.
  18. not sure what world you live in, but if you think its "shifted toward" as opposed to "has always been this way" its a very sheltered one. ____________________________________ Those who fail to learn from the past are simply Doomed.

  20. name 2 methods that the conductor had any chance of noticing. A camera flash on burst is about as visible as a human being can make themselves. Did it have a chance in hell of working? Not for a second, but its something. You dont even know what you think you know, to judge him. Unless you've seen the original you are ASSUMING that is his composition and not that of the newspaper. It could very easily be the best shot of a series on burst (which is what he claims) cropped for best effect. Tell me oh armchair savior, what lens was he using? Now tell me how far away he was oh wait you DON'T KNOW. Without access to the original photo you haven't the slightest clue what lens he used (critical for determining distance) or how far away he was and you never will. Also, he is a PHOTOGRAPHER. It's his JOB to take and sell photographs. Like it or not this is/was a news worthy event. Documenting newsworthy events (no matter how tragic or gruesome) IS WHAT NEWS PHOTOGRAPHERS DO! I suppose you hold the same contempt for every war correspondent/photographer? The only statement in your rant that is supportable are the actions of the paper. ____________________________________ Those who fail to learn from the past are simply Doomed.

MUCH better than the 2nd which just tried entirely to hard, and (apart from watching Lara Flynn Boyle slink around in that tight costume) really wasnt worth the time. ____________________________________ Those who fail to learn from the past are simply Doomed.
  22. You might want to look at the number of Electricians and Plumbers that ARE owned by major corporations. If you want to make money for the guys at the top dont get your degree. If you want access to the higher echelons of "success" (in quotes because that is an individual definition) the time you spend in school is easily worthwhile. After scholarships and grants I left college with 55k in student loans. That is less than half my current yearly income and has been for over 10 years. A good education prepares you for far more than the specific field you study for, it teaches critical thinking, organization and planning skills you will be hard pressed to acquire on your own in a trade in 2-4 years. What you gain from your education is entirely related to how well you apply yourself and there are certainly a number of idiots wandering around with advanced degrees, but I've also had to deal with "senior tradesmen" who spent hours troubleshooting symptoms because they simply didn't have the critical thinking skills to find root causes and wasted a ridiculous amount of time because they were to proud to ask for help from those who had them. So yea.. go get a trade if immediate income is what you want and if you know what you want to do with your life, but I'm the exact opposite of Ron above. I'd tell everyone to go to college, get an education and (more importantly) exposure to a wider variety of options for the rest of your life than you will jumping into a trade at 18. ____________________________________ Those who fail to learn from the past are simply Doomed.
  23. For an increasing number of major corporations having a degree (pretty much ANY degree) is a prerequisite for anything in management. Sure if the electrician or plumber wants to be a worker drone their entire life they don't need a degree, but if you want to stop crawling through attics and under sinks before you are 64 and get to the larger salary structures (and often the extended benefits that go with it) you aren't getting looked at ever until you have the lambskin. ____________________________________ Those who fail to learn from the past are simply Doomed.
  24. Very possibly correct, almost certainly they'll make more money unless you're studying medicine or possibly law. As for the happiness bit, well that has nothing to do with money once you've covered the basics. Right up to the point they hit the ceiling that requires a degree for advancement. Then they get to discover the unhappiness of never being promoted again or going back to school while trying to maintain whatever career you started. Get your degree first, you can always "learn a good trade" when you are out of college and that degree will help you get promotions the mere 'tradesmen' arent qualified for due to its lack. ____________________________________ Those who fail to learn from the past are simply Doomed.
  25. There is a simple fix that would always allow a reply to a message sent to you regardless of the senders block list, which prevents this entire scenario but few forums seem to implement it. ____________________________________ Those who fail to learn from the past are simply Doomed.
