I've fenced against several Olympic pentathletes as they often compete at lower levels to develop their skills. As a B rated fencer (A gets you in the group where you MIGHT be good enough to try out for the Olympic team) I had no problems with any of them I'd faced. But that is rather the point, they arent (despite the boyfriends claim in the article linked) the best at any of the sports they participate in as a pentathlete, but they are good at all of them. The particular skill that defines them is the running/shooting. (same with the winter variant of ski/shooting) its a very refined skill to slow your breathing and relax quickly enough to engage multiple targets and then take off again, but that doesnt mean they'd even place in a pure shooting or running competition. btw West Point doesn't even teach sabre anymore. ____________________________________ Those who fail to learn from the past are simply Doomed.

IMO they have completely with Season 2. I really really enjoyed Season 1 even having read the books, I though the changes they made were legitimate a fit the medium. But Season 2 was pitiful IMO, changes for no apparent reason (some because they dont believe their audience is very savvy apparently) and some that significantly degrade the plot, motivations and character development. The Song of Ice and Fire (aka the books) has some amazingly complex characters and plotlines and while I thought those were reflected very well in the 1st season (in many cases the actor/actresses portraying them did a great job of implying inner dialogue not delivered and scenes not shot) the 2nd season was completely disappointing. and the farce that was the climactic battle of Blackwater..... A siege that should have involved tens of thousands had all of 100 and looked exactly like they were fighting over the tiny set... I know.. budget time.. blah blah but really HBO has all the budget they needed but are just spending it badly on the wrong things.. by way of comparison these battle scenes were made 30 years ago on a budget of 11m with no access to CGI and still represents the standard for "Medieval combat" www.youtube.com/watch?v=rA8MeJFRh04 HBO has 1 episode in the 3rd season to prove to me they understand what makes the story great. German and Western European driving is different from North American driving; for one, Germany doesn't just give anyone a license, it takes hours and hours of proper instruction to get your license. As a European schooled driver, I'm confident in my abilities but here in North America I can't trust the other idiots with whom I have to share the road. Though I'd love to see 85mph/130kph as a legal limit, I feel it should come with proper driver education. Another factor is the vehicle condition, there are cars that are legal to drive over here that would have been taken off the road 10 years ago in most European countries.
