  1. I'm not a rigger, but I alway pack my own rig. I use to have a power tool and loved it. Then one day lost it, (or maybe someone took it), and now I just use a pull-up cord instead because it is free. I just ask around the packers/jumpers and if anyone ends up with one that's unusable because the line broke, they usually have no problem giving me the metal part. I take some cypres cord and make it useable again, now I have a small pile of them and I'm pretty good at not losing them. 3. I've lived in Brandon for about 5 years now and Z-Hills is practically right up the road (just get on 301 and go north, or take 75 a few miles). Lake Wales is about an hour down 60 too. Deland is a couple hour drive too. I like the area, hence why I've stayed. Man, I miss the Brandon Ale House. Been meaning to go check that place out, it's only about 5 minutes from my house. Ha. Anything in Brandon is only 5 min few blocks away. FIFY. Sometimes it takes a half hour to drive those few blocks. Only at two 45 min time spans during the day. 7. Sorry to jack your thread, but there are other changes coming to the medical certification in a couple months. Effective 4/1/2016 the medicals won't come with the student pilot certificate anymore. If someone wants the student pilot certificate, they have to apply for one, be cleared by the TSA (oh joy) and be issued a plastic card (which from what it sounds like, is the same card we get after a successful checkride) that says "Student Pilot". Not going to impact many people on here, but I've known a few TIs who had their medical and decided to give flying a shot, which this would make a difference to. http://www.avweb.com/blogs/insider/New-Student-Pilot-Rules-One-Step-Back-None-Forward-225525-1.html?platform=hootsuite Not many pilots are thrilled about this and I can bet even fewer of the CFIs out there are. 8. Not sure what you'd consider 'modern' but these guys would probably disagree that an 02 is too clean. http://www.baynews9.com/content/news/baynews9/news/article.html/content/news/articles/bn9/2015/12/21/police_teens_overcom.html "I may be a dirty pirate hooker...but I'm not about to go stand on the corner." iluvtofly DPH -7, TDS 578, Muff 5153, SCR 14890 I'm an asshole, and I approve this message
  9. I'm sure after a day of a Pawnee circling her house with a banner on it, the least of her problems would be a Twin Otter flying miles away. 11. When I joined my flight club, they caught wind that I am a skydiver and were pretty quick to change the rules to state that no parachute operations were to occur from the aircraft, nor are we allowed to take the doors off for flight. 12. I'm aware of that, but the picture of the velcro is much longer than the normal square. I am trying to figure out why it looks to be about 2-3x longer than it needs to be to hold the bridle on the top flap. 13. What is the purpose of the velcro? Is it an older container that uses velcro from the side flap to the BOC pouch or an ROL set up? 14. I've definitely had sous vide edibles. It's pretty damn good, but not something I'm in to. It's easy to do and doesn't require much work, so it works for me! 15. Boy! It'd be a bad day if everyone drove a truck like yours to the DZ ! You'd have to get low enough to read the license plates! I'll aim for my riggers truck. 16. It depends on a lot of things actually. Eventually, yes, you want to be clean to fly at your best performance, but you need not have flaps down for takeoff in some cases and in others, it's actually not recommended to have the flaps down for takeoff (other manufacturers specify a maximum takeoff flap setting that is usually far below the max flap setting). You also don't need to pull the flaps up at the same time as the gear coming up, again, depending on the airplane, the gear down usually produces far more drag than flaps on a take off setting, so you can get more lift for obstacle clearance from the flaps and less drag from having the gear up. In that case, I'd pull the gear up when it's no longer useful to me (no runway/good landing area available) but leave the flaps until passed the obstacle. (of course, if I am really having to squeeze the best possible performance from an aircraft, I've done something wrong by not leaving myself some margins) Some planes (like the Bonanza) are hard to slow down to flap speed without the gear down, so you don't dump them both at the same time but rather work them with each other. Yep, but people don't know what flaps are, so they just assume The Rock is right. Now, to make this more fun, what if he was talking about a J3 Cub? 17. I did these at 134 or 135 for a couple hours and then did the hot skillet searing. Only large ground sea salt and pepper, and they were quite good, even though I was a little stingy with the salt and pepper per my girlfriends request to take it easy on the seasoning (this time). 18. Well, he did fly one operationally which would be a different story than say myself trying to hop in one and go. There probably aren't a lot of people who can say they flew old warbirds operationally (and can still pass a flight physical). He also flew as a test pilot, which I think lends some credibility to his ability to handle military aircraft. 19. Just after getting I think my C-license (could've been B), when my BSR pull altitude changed to something like 2,500, I decided to try and calibrate my MK-1 eyeball to the new altitude. I learned that if I can correctly identify my truck in the parking lot, it's roughly time to pull. Then I realized that was not a wise idea and started pulling higher. Then I went to the AFF-I course with my slow opening canopy. That also turned out to be an unwise choice. 21. Damn, that looks amazing! I wonder what airspeed they had to fly at, looks like it was slats/flaps in maybe approach but gear up, 140ish KIAS? 24. On a trans-Atlantic flight coming back from the middle east on a commercial flight, the flight crew found out we were military (traveling in civilian clothing and apparently our tickets are what gave us away). Just after take off, I decided I'd get a Jack and Coke to wash down the Ambien. When I asked how much I owed her, she said that we were drinking for free for the duration of the flight, to the point that they stopped 'serving' us and just told us where the drinks were. I had a hell of a flight, let me tell ya!
