  1. How old is your laptop? the older ones(especially toshibas) have an adapter that the hardrive is plugged into and are surrounded by a housing. If you were to order the drive from the manufacturer they will over charge you. It is still just a standard laptop hard drive with the housing. You can dismantle the housing and reuse it with a standard new drive.
  2. Is the attached what I am looking for? Chances are I'll show up to the store and get the owner's nephew helping me rather than someone that has a clue, so it would be great to bring a photo. yup that is exactly what I was talking about.
  3. The real question is Will they know what you're talking about? LOL that will be the problem. Most people wouldnt even know what it looks like.
  4. The converter is very small. I bought one at Fry's for about $3. its a small board with place to plugin the laptop drive and a ide cable and also power attachment
  5. Yeah they can be a pain in the ass to work with. You have to be careful not to bend any of the pins on the drive.
  6. Ivan's idea has merit. Compusa sells a converter that will let you plug that laptop drive into a regular IDE connection. If that drive has NTFS on it, the computer you plug it into will have to be running Win2K, XP, 2003 Server, or Linux with the NTFS driver. That is a good idea. I forgot about the converter. I don't need it with my IBM. They do sell a kit that will let you hook up your old hard drive through pcmcia slot on your laptop. So you could buy a new harddrive and a copy win2k and reinstall.
  7. I just recently had a users laptop harddrive go bad and took the drive to a data recovery company and the quoted me $1200 not including parts to repair the drive and try to recover the info on it. It cost the company $100 just to get the assesment.
  8. You could ship it to me with a new hard drive and I could fix it and ship it back. I have done this so many times I could do it with out having to even think about it. I would charge a minimal fee.
  9. oops I keep forgeting that not everyone has the secondary hard drive bay that I have for my IBM laptop
  10. Sounds like there is physical damage to the harddrive. I would go out and buy a new harddrive and make it the primary and set your old one as the slave and then install Win2k on your new hard drive and try to copy any files you want to keep off of the old hard drive onto the new one. then throw away the old hard drive.
  11. I have seen Bruno land his over 4.0 wingloaded canopy without having to run it out. So it can be done. I have also seen someone very experienced land that same canopy and have some diffuclty landing it. So it does take a lot of skill to land a 4.0 or more wingload. I wouldn't touch any canopy that would put me any where near that kind of wing loading.
  12. Well I hope you are wrong and things don't get that bad.
  13. the US Gov. spends billions of dollars developing precision weapons so that they can avoid collateral damage and destroy the enemy. I don't see how you can say that the US thinks it is ok to cause thousands of collateral damage deaths.
  14. I have an office and my desk faces the door.
  15. You would want to have it looked at by a rigger and ask him/her that question. A brand new infinity would be freefly friendly but that one who knows? depends on the condition it is in.
  16. With just sunglasses you would probably endup loosing your contacts.
  17. It would be interesting to see how they arrived at that number. I wonder where the got the information used in it.
  18. I wonder how much higher they would rate BASE jumping.
  19. from that article I got the impression that they believed that there would be fewer Islamic extremists if Bush had not gone to war with Iraq. That may be so but I don't think it would be wise to not back up words with actions. You can't make everyone happy. Taking Saddam out was a good thing to do. There were plenty of good reasons for him to not be in power.
  20. I don't understand why people seem to think that the Bush administration is the cause for Islamic extremist's hate of the US. Their hate goes much farther back then this administration. If Kerry were to be the next president it would not change the level of hate that these terrorists have for the US and would not deter them from attacking or planning new attacks. I don't think that giving in to all of their demands would help at all. The only thing that would be affective is to hunt them down and destroy them and any country that knowingly harbors these people. My thoughts on the Iraqi War is that before the war began the US said if you don't give us definitve proof that you have destroyed the weapons of mass destruction then will come in there kick your ass. They didn't comply so we kicked their ass. That is good enough for me. Don't make a threat you can't back up. Pres. Bush followed through. That is a big plus in his favor as far as I am concerned. Did we step on some toes doing so Yeah. It isn't possible to accomplish anything with out stepping on some toes. Was it worth it? I don't know, but I do think it was the right thing to do. Our enemies need to fear us and know that when we say we will clean their clocks we will. Pres. Bush has done a good job. I don't see Kerry being decisive in anything. He seems to just follow the polls and make the popular statments.
