  1. Despite your 500 word essay on how guns work, accidental discharges happen fairly often in the US. Sometimes people get shot; sometimes not. This is juvenile to continually pick one small aspect to rebut, yet never acknowledge you have a gun problem. How about the great security measures of hiding a gun in drawer wrapped in a towel or on top of refrigerator wrapped in a t-shirt; with that level of foresight nothing will ever go wrong. The BBQ thread

Not exactly BBQ, but cooking-related nonetheless: During a recent home move, I’ve unbelievably lost my flat cast iron skillet. Whereas I can go to the shops and buy new fancy high-end cookware, these are different in that I’ve got to start all over to “season” the skillet to get that nice shiny seasoned surface. Years ago, I remember coating it with oil and heating in the oven for hours (repeatedly): but what is the best type of oil to season the pan first time? There seems to be divergent opinions on choice of seasoning oil. one of these (attached pic)... "Pain is the best instructor, but no one wants to attend his classes"
  3. I agree with DSE, don’t use DropBox, it’s a terrible Mom & Pop internet solution. If looking at a solution for sending large files; have a look at www.wetransfer.com I use it for my business and it’s great. The other side does not need an account or login (unlike DropBox). You can also customise the landing page with the Pro service which is only EUR 10m/month. Another note to the above; you'll definitely want USB 3.0 sticks being made on USB 3.0 drives on your computers - will greatly speed up the process compared to USB 2.0. 4. Doesn't FAT32 have a 4GB single file limit? I have all my personal flash drives formatted NTFS to avoid this. Per TK's query, which format can be read by both PC & Mac? "Pain is the best instructor, but no one wants to attend his classes"
  5. I'm not your research assistant. If you can't easily find examples; you're purposefully not trying. "Pain is the best instructor, but no one wants to attend his classes"
  6. I very often deal with clients/associates with over 100m wealth; infrequently with clients/associates having a few billion plus. I’ll note there is not a common link among them in regards to skill/intelligence. Some are among the sharpest people you will ever meet; for others it’s more down to situation, happenchance or family. Don’t be too easily impressed by bank account alone. Trump is a property developer. To me I hold drug dealers and black market arms dealers in higher regard than property developers (sorry to offend anyone who has ever repainted/flipped a 3bedroom house and calls themselves a “property developer”). It’s a truly dirty business, no matter what sums are involved and or what cities/countries are being discussed. I sometimes deal with them as their money spends as well as anyone else’s. However, I’d see it as embarrassing to have a property developer (I actually nearly spit saying the term) in serious consideration for President. When I was in business school in 80’s, I too bought a copy of Trumps “Art of the Deal” (I was young and impressionable). In later years I ran across the old copy and promptly threw it in the rubbish bin – where it belonged. "Pain is the best instructor, but no one wants to attend his classes"
  7. Your points will come across more legitimate, if you rely on making intelligent statements as opposed to simply relying on using all caps, exclamation marks and line spacing. "Pain is the best instructor, but no one wants to attend his classes"

    That's Texas...

Seems the Norwegians have adopted the word Texas as a slang term for "crazy" http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/magazine-34622478 ...maybe in in their local dialect they sometimes use "Florida" as a synonym "Pain is the best instructor, but no one wants to attend his classes"
  9. Just in the past few weeks, there have been several instances of guns being dropped or falling out of bags and discharging - Google it yourself. It's not just bad people with guns; it's also stupid people with guns (and as with other examples; the US has a greatly disproportionate number of "mishaps" compared to other advanced nations). ...referring to number of stupid people both carrying or accidentally shooting or leaving weapon unattended so that children or others can access them. 10. These "tech support" scams are not just viruses anymore. They now pop up from some websites; so will be seen on any computer even if new and virus free. If these pop up or others such as the ones that say "are you sure you want to leave this site?", do not click on it. Just open Task Manager (via Control+Alt+Delete) and shut your browser down. Also it is good to use “cleaner” software everyday. CCleaner www.piriform.com is free and works great. This will clean out all cookies/cache/history and is not just good for security, but helps any computer run faster. For virus protection/firewall, use something like Kaspersky or NOD32; it’s what tech geeks use (except the really proper ones who are on Linux). Don’t touch McAfee or Norton; it’s rubbish mass-market “Mom & Pop” software for fools. "Pain is the best instructor, but no one wants to attend his classes"
  11. Yes, a witch hunt being run by 5yr olds. This isn't real; it's just Republicans trying to stop Hillary at any cost. "Pain is the best instructor, but no one wants to attend his classes"

    Scientology?

I watched it about a week ago. God damn?? They're more batshit crazy than I ever thought. "Pain is the best instructor, but no one wants to attend his classes"
  13. Ah we agree on both points. We now have Five Guys in London. First stopped in to see what all the fuss/hype was about; it's noisy, crowded, I'm in a long queue. I'm reading the menu board and see burger/fries/coke is going to be about £15 ($23) - damn that's expensive for a quick burger. However, admittedly not the healthiest lunch; damn they do make really good burgers & fries. "Pain is the best instructor, but no one wants to attend his classes"
  14. Yes, I think it is stupid to start randomly shooting at people when you are not certain your gun is loaded with blanks or not. "Pain is the best instructor, but no one wants to attend his classes"
  15. This "bright spark" goes to a wild west shootout re-enactment and forgot to take the real bullets out of his gun. Luckily his aim was shit, or he could have killed 5-6 people... 2 Shot During 'Old West' Gunfight Reenactment In Tombstone, Arizona: http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2015/10/19/tombstone-reenactment-shooting_n_8329196.html "Pain is the best instructor, but no one wants to attend his classes"
  16. That's the great thing about the internet; you can always find someone who shares your viewpoint no matter how uninformed and misguided. "Pain is the best instructor, but no one wants to attend his classes"
  17. In another article, a woman from a Catholic church nearby stated: ...Nancy Kneller, who used to work at a Catholic church next door, said residents had long been suspicious of the place. "Why are they so secretive? Why are there no kids out playing?" she said. Still, she added, "I think they're good people that made a bad decision." WTF? No, they are not good people. 19. I'm certain you know your way around a war zone better than I, however it doesn't seem that you use statistics for other than a casual hobby. I'm assuming you spend little time in boardrooms really debating math-related issues. I don't have the patience to get into a cut/paste challenge. Thank you for informing the Brits here what is like living in the UK. I've also lived in the US for 15 yrs, so have a good comparison of both. While living in the US, I owned guns - but now that I'm older/wiser, see there is no real reason for every man/woman/child to have a gun - I see society is more civil when they don't. 20. The Parasport Italia Sillibands https://www.chutingstar.com/skydive/silibands-stow-bands work great. They are my preference if I have them available. Otherwise, I always used TubeStows. Re the comment above of them not really catching on - as you can it was the price. "Pain is the best instructor, but no one wants to attend his classes"
  21. Talk about making stuff up! Thats a complete load of bull and i would love to know where you got that stat from? Yes, jbscout2002's grasp of statistics can be described as "tenuous" at best. "Pain is the best instructor, but no one wants to attend his classes"

    The BBQ thread

Sounds good; will give it a try and take the ears out of the foil for last minute or so and put directly on grill for a light carmelising. Unfortunately, they don't sell the foil you mentioned here; just ah-loo-mini-yum foil (but I suppose it will serve as a suitable substitute. Anyone have any tips/recipe for corn-on-the-cob on the grill? Grilling this evening and have some corn to use up. I'm usually a purist and just steam corn. "Pain is the best instructor, but no one wants to attend his classes"
  24. Yes we are also flawed; we just don't have shootings every day (edit: few hours) "Pain is the best instructor, but no one wants to attend his classes"
  25. ...US students are already behind and falling in global league tables. Damn kids are never going to learn anything if they're spending all their classroom time hiding under desks dodging bullets. "Pain is the best instructor, but no one wants to attend his classes"
