    This is fun

also moderately nefarious "Pain is the best instructor, but no one wants to attend his classes"
  2. He was showing an example of how it can be better. In your miss-guided manner, you have confirmed this rather than refute it. Oddly you note that the in the UK: - not everyone has or feels a need to have a gun - UK puts more resources on healthcare / mental health Seems to yield positive results; maybe you try it. "Pain is the best instructor, but no one wants to attend his classes"
  3. This is akin to discussing obesity and my example is 15lbs overweight and yours weighs 600lbs and needs assistance to just out of bed. There is no rationalisation for the disparity of gun violence in the US in comparison to every other advanced nation. I'm curious about your understanding of British life (or anywhere outside the US for that matter). You don't have a monopoly on crime or bad people; you do lead in the level and availability of guns to your population - which is what we're discussing. 4. What do you know about the UK; enlighten us. I hope you're bringing more reason/logic to your new job as a policeman. "Pain is the best instructor, but no one wants to attend his classes"
  5. That's incorrect and mentally lazy. The more you understand and are connected with other countries the greater your concern/interest. Sadly this doesn't apply to your average American. "Pain is the best instructor, but no one wants to attend his classes"
  6. It's an idiotic sign. Why would anyone admire or take pride in stupidity? "Pain is the best instructor, but no one wants to attend his classes"
  7. We've got our daily US mass shooting happening right now in San Bernadino. "Pain is the best instructor, but no one wants to attend his classes"
  8. Our daily "Rush Rant" with supporting Breitbart or WhatsUpWithThat link. Are there heavy metals in the drinking water in Iowa? Here's one of your statesmen with some more questionable thinking: http://www.huffingtonpost.com/entry/mark-chelgren-immigration-execution_565e3ff5e4b072e9d1c3fe64 "Pain is the best instructor, but no one wants to attend his classes"
  9. No intelligent statement ever begins with the phrase “lemme tell you sumptin” as these “backwoods Virginia folk” so cleary illustrate: http://www.fredericksburg.com/news/local/spotsylvania/islamic-center-of-fredericksburg-will-continue-pursuing-plans-for-a/article_ce9ba8b6-60cd-5546-b782-5056d4dbe2ae.html Here’s a real example of Americans in danger – from home-grown American religious nutcases: http://edition.cnn.com/2015/11/27/us/colorado-shooting-probe/ "Pain is the best instructor, but no one wants to attend his classes"
  10. After seeing the autopsy graphic with the bullet holes in body (but before I had seen the video) I was going to jokingly post "maybe he was rolling about on the ground, but the police just kept shooting" After actually seeing the video; damn that's exactly what happened. "Pain is the best instructor, but no one wants to attend his classes"
  11. Just got that from the Wiki page only; I've not read anything on the story before. No, they don't come across as "nice" guys, just a more colourful story than I would have imagined. "Pain is the best instructor, but no one wants to attend his classes"
  12. At the beginning of an international flight a man quickly runs up to the cockpit trying to get to the pilots. The crew manager stops him and says “excuse me sir”, the man barks “LEO”. They stop him again and grab him by his arm; he says “I’m LEO”. They finally ask him “who are you and what is LEO” (we don’t use that phrase in Britain). He replies “I’m a law enforcement officer; in the US we always introduce ourselves to the pilots”. The reply – you’re on a British registered aircraft on an international flight; please take your seat. He’s an older man and after they spoke with him they find he has never travelled outside of the US in his life. However, he seems to have watched too many Die Hard movies. 13. We know police see some horrendous stuff; you have to deal with the worst of society - it's your profession. No one is not against police being attacked. That's a totally separate discussion from police brutality. "Pain is the best instructor, but no one wants to attend his classes"
  14. We can't argue this one yet; the video hasn't been released. However: 1) 16 shots 2) police refusal to release the video 3) pre-emptive payment of $5m, by city, before any lawsuit We'll have to pick this one up next week. Most police are good; you seem to be a professional policeman. However, we must stop this automatic covering for the bad apples which are a disproportionate number. If several Catholic priests are found to have been raping young boys; the discussion starting point should not be "you don't know what being a priest is like, I know lots of nice priests." 15. I was noting that Americans mispronounce Adidas (correct pronunciation is ['adi das’ ] as it is short for the founders name Adolf “Adi” Dassler); OK, you’ll never get that Run DMC song out of your head and will always pronounce it [‘uh deeh duz’]. However, when looking up the background on Wiki, it’s quite an interesting story: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Adidas https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Adolf_Dassler I didn’t know that he and his brother split up and his brother started Puma or that Adi was the first with sports endorsements, by giving Jesse Owen shoes for the 1936 Berlin Olympics. He and his brother hated each other; I liked the following excerpt: ...When handymen were called to Rudolf's home (his brother who started Puma), they would deliberately wear Adidas shoes. Rudolf would tell them to go to the basement and pick out a pair of free Pumas. The two brothers were never reconciled and although both are now buried in the same cemetery, they are spaced apart as far as possible. 16. Don't know what this video will reveal (not released yet), but from the story looks to be significant. http://www.huffingtonpost.com/entry/chicago-police-shooting-video_564e4166e4b0879a5b0a4343 "A city lawyer even said the video was a factor in the unusual decision by the city to approve a $5 million payment to McDonald's family before his relatives had even filed a lawsuit." "Pain is the best instructor, but no one wants to attend his classes"
  17. Extrapolation of Ron's own description: "Another large portion is Appalachian mountain folk. They are a breed unto their own." He's described them as odd; which is of significance when taking his views of "normal" into account. "Pain is the best instructor, but no one wants to attend his classes"
  18. Honestly answer this query; when was the last time you had a personal interaction or a conversation with a Muslim? For me it was just in the past two hours. I was speaking with a woman wearing a hijab. Did she shout at me “white devil infidel; I’ll kill you”. No, she told me about my 2yr olds day at nursery (what?; they’re trusted with children you say?). Sorry to disappoint, but there was no “Death to the West” ranting. She just noted that my son ate half his lasagne for lunch, had a 90 minute nap and then made/painted dinosaur models in the afternoon. Among our regular babysitters, we have two that Muslim (one female; one male). At times when we email the headmistress of the prep school, our older son attends, we note that our son will be picked up today by “Mo” (short for Mohammed) – no one breaks out in a sweat; just people like anyone else. People are most afraid of what they don’t understand. Taking the example of your simpleton “Appalachian folk”, yes they’re scared or mistrusting of damned near everything - because they understand so damn little. "Pain is the best instructor, but no one wants to attend his classes"
  19. Damn, that's coincidental. Though I'm British and live in London, I too grew up in a small American town of 3000 people and we also had one family from Laos (actually lived on our street). Was there some programme that provided one token Asian family to small towns in the 70s? "Pain is the best instructor, but no one wants to attend his classes"
  20. Unless you accept Marley into your heart, you will never have inner peace. As for Jesus, if he was alive today wouldn't this "immigrant" wall keep him out too. Remember he was middle-eastern and there is no love for even brownish skinned people in America "Pain is the best instructor, but no one wants to attend his classes"
  21. You left the "w" off of now in your sentence above "Pain is the best instructor, but no one wants to attend his classes"
  22. Of course this all a new and recent phenomenon. Events of this nature surely weren't as common in the days before widespread use of video. "Pain is the best instructor, but no one wants to attend his classes"
  23. Here's a recent one: http://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2015/nov/17/san-francisco-police-beating-captured-video Regardless of what happened prior, I'll venture to say this is not the ideal manner in which to apprehend a suspect. 24. He could have gotten on your local public transport and maybe "blended in" http://www.theonion.com/article/new-lsu-stadium-shuttle-transports-tigers-fans-bac-51345 "Pain is the best instructor, but no one wants to attend his classes"
  25. Also raises the query why would they be attacked in the first place when everyone knows all Texans have guns. "Pain is the best instructor, but no one wants to attend his classes"
