The issue is getting everyone out of the craft in time to join the formation. If the base puts the jets on late divers must afterburn to a formation ( not safe unless well skilled in the last second flare). Aircraft departure heading and glide slope are critical for the base or the late divers will have even more distance to make up. Prediction is we will have big way wingsuiters hanging half the load on the outside of the aircraft like all of those nostalgic pictures of jumpers standing outside of the beech 18s. In time all of these skills will be more easily cultivated in the average flocker who is willing to learn and maybe with radios we might see a two stage base departure speed curve.

There is a similar ball clamp thing designed to hold hand held instruments in an aircraft cockpit that is available from aircraft spruce and supply. That kit of components looks to be your best bet.

All of the 6000 series rod penetrate through nasty stuff but they require the skill of oscillating the rod in a zig-zag pattern and holding the rod at the proper height to maintain the arc. 6010 is for DC only. 6011 and 6013 are more general purpose. All of the 6000 series splatter like a mofo, you can spray pam ( cooking spray) so the globules don't stick. The 7000 series rod don't penetrate as well as the 6000 series and they don't work as well overhead as the 6000. They tend to take more power( heat). 7014 is the general purpose that works really well. 7018 requires a little more skill and post weld care of the bead until it cools. All of the 7000 series rod are sensitive to moisture trapped in the flux coating than the 6000 series but an oven will dry it out nice. You typically don't oscillate with the 7000 series you just lay down a steady straight bead.

I don't know why people do that. I knew a guy once with about a thousand jumps and all he had was an A. I jump with a guy like that. You can do a lot with an A if you never want to do demos, compete at nationals, night jumps, land at the closer in tighter more demanding landing area at some boogies..... attend some other cool event or boogies that require a higher rating. This gentleman saved himself the time for the test and whatever the costs are. AND he has jumped balloons plenty, done open demos and has gone to boogies that required the higher rating by simply showing the event coordinator- organizer his log book and received a waiver.
