  1. But you have to start somewhere, right? When you have a well educated, politically and socially stable population, will that not then make those with extremist views much more irrelevant? We seem all to quick to quote the "72 virgins" - like once they hear that, they are strapping the bombs to themselves and running for nearest tourist town. We seem to think that this is the only motivation for them to blow themselves up. I find that very hard to believe. I think that if you look at most - if not all - of the suicide bombers, they felt as though they had nothing else to live for. You can't tell me that they didn't really struggle with what they were doing. Most of them left behind families - some were married with kids. They had to reconcile the basic desire to live with the feeling of hopelessness, desperation or anger that had taken over.
  2. Great 5d thread I don't know the success people might have had in using the 5d for both video and photo. Seems like there wasn't a resounding chorus of those who thought it could replace the video camera. Like Bill mentioned above, the CX100 could be used for video and passable stills - if your looking to really lighten your load...
  3. Ding, ding, ding...we have a winner. Poor, marginalized, uneducated, oppressed people have a tendency to lash out. It's at that point that they are preyed upon by those who see that weakness and will exploit them for their own means. Now, here's the hard part...how do we change that? How do we make the zealots less of a factor? By ensuring a higher standard of living/quality of life? By more education?
  4. Somehow this seems appropriate... "Imagine there's no countries It isn't hard to do Nothing to kill or die for And no religion too Imagine all the people Living life in peace..."
  5. So you are saying that Iran's call for the 'destruction of Israel' and Lukid's call for the 'destruction of Palestine' mean the exact same thing?
  6. Not when in the Lukid's own charter, they state... “The Palestinians can run their lives freely in the framework of self-rule, but not as an independent and sovereign state"
  7. It's funny that your reply was just under Krip's I hold as much contempt for politicians who initiate the propaganda as I do for the media who report it.
  8. Kasra Naji - he was an Iranian journalist during the rise of Ahmadinejad Not much. Mostly the rantings of dead extremists and foolish academics. That hardly compares to every religious and political leader since the Iranian Revolution calling for the destruction of Israel...
  9. And everyday I'm grateful that I'm not one of those families... Neither a family who lives in Gaza nor a family living in constant fear in one of the Israeli border towns...
  10. Most people won't see it as Palestinian's lashing out after years of oppression, but see it as Israel defending itself - and if civilians are killed in Israel exercising that right - although regrettable and unfortunate, it is viewed not as an atrocity, but as a consequence of what the Palestinian's brought upon themselves. I know that sounds fucked up, but I think that is how most people view this...
  11. I think it boils down to one's perception... Perception of the oppressor and perception of the oppressed. In your examples, the oppressed were never perceived to be anything but an underdog... But in this case, the Palestinian's - especially those in the Gaza Strip are not viewed by many as underdogs or even oppressed. They view them as 'extremists' having brought this upon themselves. Many view the Israelies as having acted in self defence. For some, it's not as clearly comparable to Hitler, or Karadzic.
  12. "Iran's position, which was first expressed by the Imam [Khomeini] and stated several times by those responsible, is that the cancerous tumor called Israel must be uprooted from the region." "It is the mission of the Islamic Republic of Iran to erase Israel from the map of the region." Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei - Dec 2000... How's that for 'petty functionary'??
  13. Wow. Really? Are you saying that no ranking government official within Iran has called for the destruction of Israel??
  14. Thinking of making the transition away from a dSLR to a Point and Shoot for tandems. Is there any decent P&S that has a lens wider than 28mm? I really can't find anything that is wider than that. Vast majority are 35mm. What models are others jumping?
  15. +1... And I'm a big BH fan. I've got 3 of them
  16. Thanks for posting the video Mathias... Now, is it only me or does it seem quite 'jerky'? I'm playing it in QT and it doesn't seem smooth at all...
  17. Excellent post...thanks for the photos of the box opened up... I have an Optik Illusion that I need to make the same mod for... Thanks again!
  18. What brings you to "The Great White North"??
  19. sorry, that's classified....
  20. I don't think so. I'm in the same boat. Optik Illusion with side mounted PC350 and top mounted dslr. PC350 is starting to fade on my, so I've been looking at the CX100. I don't think the L bracket I have on there now will do the job as the lens will be sitting too low on the bracket...
