  1. that's pretty slick... BTW, what type of still activation do you have? Is that a blow switch?
  2. Don't mistake my 'do something' comments with laws or regulations... So NOTHING can be learned from this? If you were a range owner, would you not look at this event and TRY and see how you could reduce the chance of this happening at your business?
  3. Not true at all. I'm a gun enthusiast. I own enough weapons, and of politically incorrect types, that I'm unlikely to ever be allowed to re-settle in my place of birth. I'd suggest you read through my posts in this thread and modify your blanket generalizations a bit. +1. I think there are plenty of people who are gun enthusiasts (myself included) who still believe there something that can be done to try and prevent this tragic situation from happening.
  4. Realistically, you're just blaming the son. Can't really blame the family as they weren't there and probably not aware of her intentions. Maybe the family had the expectation that the range would take 'reasonable precautions' by doing a background check on her first before giving her a loaded handgun.
  5. So because it's not a rampant problem, it's best to do nothing? Do you regulate it to make it safer? No. As a business owner, do you look at ways of preventing something like this from happening again? Absolutely. Somewhere between the two extremes of "Ban guns" and "Do Nothing", there has to be something....
  6. How's this? If you can't legally own a handgun, you can't shoot at a range. No drop in customers unless you are pre checked. Come in, fill out a background check, we'll call you when you are approved. Will that completely eliminate the risk? Of course not. Would it have prevented this incident from happening the way it did? Most probably.
  7. Then I guess the solution is do nothing. Kind of like the owner's reaction.
  8. Not quite what I said. It's one thing if someone takes themselves out, it's another if they take out others.
  9. That's probably true, but if I had a range and someone killed themselves, I'd feel responsible if I didn't do everything possible to prevent it. And if I couldn't completely eliminate the chance of them taking someone else with them, I'd wouldn't have the range in the first place...
  10. So she should be precluded from owning a firearm, but not from renting one? Again, does the owner of the range not have some sort of fault in this?
  11. I'm not sure I understand. Are you equating the mother in this story to a licensed skydiver? Would her mental history preclude her from owning a gun, therefore I believe that FreeflyChile's analogy is correct... And to his question, what (if any) responsibility do you think the range owner has in this incident?
  12. Looks nice, but still no threads for lens attachments. Also, the GPS feature is neat, but since there is no GPS metadata standard in AVCHD, it makes that feature a bit less of a sell (for me at least)...
  13. Great photos. Thanks for the detail. Quick question, and maybe I should put some more thought into it before asking, but why do you prefer the external SPST switch for your video instead of using the HypeEye switch?
  14. Holy shit... Are you on the board of directors for Haaretz or something? Do you get paid per article that you link to??

  16. IT'S ALIVE!! Congratulations to everyone in getting this dream realized. I guess I've got a few trips down the 417/40 in the near future!! Félicitation a tous!!
  17. I agree. I think that is what Jesus would want us to do...
  18. I agree completely. I still jump both video and stills ($2500 just in still gear sitting up there!!). I'm just saying it's only a matter of time before there is an acceptable solution. I think it will be sooner rather than later - just my somewhat educated guess...
  19. I'm having a late dinner on Thursday night... I'll be dead tired by mid Friday afternoon... Think I'll sleep right through until Sunday morning...
  20. Do you not think that with the CX100, we are getting closer to video and stills in one shot? Combining that with the Hypeye D Pro makes the CX100 (and probably others) a real viable alternative. Now I'm in total agreement with you about striving for quality, and in my opinion, the stills on the CX100 are still not up to snuff, but I think it's getting closer and that is the only real 'missing link' in having a single device for both photo and video...
  21. Let me take a shot.... I read this recently and thought it fit in nicely with this discussion. "Without exception, the suicide bombers have lived their lives on the receiving end of a system designed to trample their rights and crush every hope of a brighter future… Confronted by a seemingly endless combination of death, destruction, restriction, harassment and humiliation, they conclude that ending life as a bomb - rather than having it ended by a bullet - endows them, even if only in their final moments, with a semblance of purpose and control previously considered out of reach." Coincidentally, from the same article - 47% of the suicide bombers have an academic education and an additional 29% have at least a high school education. - 83% of the suicide bombers are single. - 64% of the suicide bombers are between the ages 18-23; most of the rest are under 30. - 68% of the suicide bombers have come from the Gaza Strip.
