  1. OK, so this is the opposite of a sewing machine score. So about two months ago, I was told by a guy that I work with, that our resident mechanic had several industrial sewing machines that he was interested in selling. Being the procrastinator that I am I just got around to asking him about them yesterday. Turns out he had 14 or 15(he wasn't exactly sure) they were all Singers and at least one double needle. They had been in a storage container for several years, tables and all, working when pulled out of a sewing factory by his dad. He sold the entire lot, with the container for scrap!!!!! He got $1600....I almost cried when he told me how much he got.
  2. Also keep in mind, that just because you downsize, it doesn't necessarily mean that the riser pressure is going to go down dramatically!. Maybe work on technique. How are you starting your double fronts? Braked approach, straight to fronts?
  3. I am a big (240 lbs) guy as well. I have no problems what so ever landing the Set 366(or sigma 340, Icarus 330) with any passenger, be it a 20 year old 90lb girl or 220 lb 80 year old guy. That is assuming that they are in good enough shape to get their legs up. I have landed the 425 reserve and it flies just fine, if you know how to fly a F-111 canopy. I do prefer the ZP canopies for tandems though. I think the biggest problem with their landing was the fact that Bush really couldn't get his legs up and that they landed downwind! The downwinder being the bigger problem with that particular passenger.
  4. thanks, didn't really think it was likely, was just wondering
  5. I know the A-10 has landed with some pretty significant damage. I have heard of them coming in with half a wing missing and most of the tail gone. What I was really thinking of though was the stunt planes that hover on the prop like a helicopter
  6. I am pretty sure that part of it is correct, but the loop is supposed to be bigger on the back side not the front side.
  7. My question about that video is, is it even possible? Could you fly and land a plane with only one wing?
  8. If you put longer lines on a small canopy, I believe it would spin up faster as the angle of the lines would be smaller. I don't really know how to explain it, but... Imagine a board that's a foot long with four strings, one tied to each corner, each string also a foot long, with the lines pulled tight and going to another board about two inches wide. Now imagine those same two boards, but with strings that are two feet long. The set up with the longer strings will be easier to twist and you will be able to put more twist in before it gets to tight to twist anymore. Not sure if that will make any sense to anyone except me, but I understand what I mean
  9. I'll just show up with a 5 gallon keg of home brew and skip the glass all together
  10. Most brewers know this, but for all the others.... http://www.straightdope.com/columns/read/2979/are-brown-bottles-better-for-beer http://brokensecrets.com/2010/03/23/why-beer-bottles-are-green-brown-or-clear/ For those that choose not to click on the links, brown blocks light that can "skunk" your beer, green is all about marketing and clear is just cheaper.
  11. I think you got that backwards, always brown, never clear or green bottles I'm gonna go hide from the corona drinkers now!
  12. This is going to be a bit of a thread drift, but.. I jump both small(ish) canopies and large canopies. I recently got a MC-4 for demos, and it has trim tabs. So I started doing some research into trim tabs and came across 2 to 1s. This got me thinking, has anyone ever tried using 2:1s for swooping? It seems to me like they should work for using fronts for large turns. Or can you not get enough input out of a 2:1 to get a good steep dive? I'm thinking about grabbing an old set of risers and installing a 2:1 set up just to try it out. Does anyone see or know of a reason not to give it a shot?
  13. I guess theatrically, if you took the FJC and did 200 jumps in a month, you could take the tests and send in for your C license without ever having actually had an A. Or if you started at a non USPA dropzone made 3000 jumps and jumped for say 5 yrs only at that DZ. Then if you moved and went to a USPA dropzone, you could take all the tests, fill out all the cards and end up with a D license never having had an A,B, or C
  14. Mullins is correct, you do not have to actually have a B license to get a C license, just have met the requirements and take the tests. I have known several people that got there A and then didn't get a B or C, then decided they wanted a tandem rating and took the B,C, and D license tests all at the same time, and only received their D
  15. A man after my own heart :) I feel the same way about beer rules! Don't get me wrong I have no problem what so ever with buying beer and sharing it. I just don't like the "for every first you gotta buy beer thing". It is great for the newbies to help them fit in and as an ice breaker. But once you have been around awhile, not so much. As far a supplying beer, i am a fairly decent home-brewer and have been known to bring several kegs of beer for all to drink. Hell, I even set up my kegerator outside my camper at carolinafest and kept beer free flowing for anybody that walked by and wanted it all week.
  16. out of curiosity, in what ways is it better than Roku? I have a Roku 2 and a Roku stick, and have had no real troubles with either. I haven't really used any other kind of streaming device, other than my blue ray player that does netflix and pandora.
  17. I put a smaller (2")pulley on the motor, the original was either 4 or 4.5". It does help some, but it is still fast and is hard to control the start up speed. I am thinking about putting a servo motor on it. Thought I would try changing the pulley first as it is the cheaper option.
  18. I have changed mine, +4. I am typically a high puller, I like to pull at 4000, if I am doing any freefall, usually I just do hop and pops unless it's a tandem. On the occasions that I know I will be getting out low (low clouds) I will just leave it off.
  19. It's nothing to really get excited about, but I can't complain about the price and it works great. I got it free
  20. So I saw this video this morning, thought it was kinda funny. Then it got me to thinking, I wonder how many guys actually use the "fly" in the front of their underwear to go to the restroom? I have used it before, but generally don't use it. http://www.buzzfeed.com/beckycatherineharris/women-try-mens-underwear
  21. Nope, not confused in the slightest!! You are just being argumentative. If stopped and asked for my ID (which has happened in the past), I will present it and keep my mouth shut, unless asked a question. Upon being asked a question, I will answer that question and only that question and I will do it in the most polite way that I can. When the situation is over, i will tell the officer to have a nice day. This approach has always worked well for me in the past, and i believe it will continue to. If you want to scream fuck the police and be an ass if asked to present your ID or stopped for any reason. Go right ahead, I'll be watching for your youtube video or waiting to hear you come here and complain about how you got victimized by the police. With that, I am leaving this conversation! I don't know why I even stepped into SC, I should know better.
  22. As far as the middle eastern gentleman in the airport....he's just screwed TongueAngelic Guess, you didn't read all the way to the end.
  23. I guess the point I'm trying to make is, it really isn't only about skin color, it's about your appearance and the way you present yourself! If the liquor store a block away just got robbed and two black men are walking side by side down the street. One wearing a business suit and a clean overall appearance and the other wearing sagging pants, sideways hat and big gold chain, who is getting stopped and questioned?
  24. and if the black man driving in the wealthy neighbor hood is driving nice clean Mercedes and wearing wealthy neighborhood clothes and acting like he has common sense he most likely won't run into much trouble. However if he is driving a lowered Honda civic with tinted windows, bling bling wheels blasting rap music and smoking a blunt....is a cop wrong for pulling him over? This man might just live in the house down the street or he may be coming to visit his father or brother that lives in this neighborhood, but if you look the part expect to be treated the part As far as the middle eastern gentleman in the airport....he's just screwed
