  1. My stats: 3200 jumps in 10 yrs 2100 tandems 1100 sport jumps 2 cutaway/reserve rides, both tandem, first one was at jump 1780 second was around 2400 0 sport reserve rides 1 intentional cutaway on a tertiary rig
  2. When I read about this awhile back, that was kind of the point. They were making a joke about soylent green
  3. The one at Skydive Carolina is the only one I have seen or ridden in, so like I said maybe they got a bad one. I was gone from there for awhile and most of that time was when they had the Kodiak. Maybe you could contact someone there and get their opinions, as I only got to use it a few times. Hell maybe they just wanted a different plane and used that as an excuse to get rid of it.
  4. I saw something on this about a year ago, but couldn't find a place to order it to try it. Maybe it wasn't on the market yet. Might have to give it a try now.
  5. Skydive Carolina had one for a little while, it was a very nice plane. I think they got rid of it because of the slow climb rate. I think time to 14,000 was around 25 min. Maybe it was just that particular plane, I'm not sure if they are all slow(ish)
  6. It does look like he has a a staged pilot chute deployment. Looks like the white handle deploys the pilot chute and the orange one releases it.
  7. I disagree, if like you say they are not retesting them ever again, then they should set the initial standard even higher. Since they won't be retested, they need to start off at almost superhuman ability, that way when they age and their abilities decline they can still do the job
  8. I'll agree with that! I doubt very few people wouldn't. What I dont agree with is lowering standards to let the weak in, just to make them fell better about themselves. If she wants to be part of the NYFD then she should go home, train harder and earn it. If for whatever reason she is at the top of her ability and cant pass the test, then she wasn't meant to have the job.
  9. Maybe the NYFD doesn't want to set the initial test at a minimum of the necessary abilities. Why is minimal ok, shouldn't the test be set at least at the average ability to do the job. Why can't a fire department expect/demand excellence? When/if you are trapped in your burning house, do you want the fire fighters coming to rescue you to (a) be able to it at the fastest possible manner or (b) MAYBE be able to get you out in time because they are the group that barely passed the newly lowered standardized test
  10. It really is irrelevant whether or not a specific test for a specific job is an accurate test to see if one can do the job. Once that test is the standard test, then that is the test period, end of story. If you can't pass the test you don't get the job. Once the test is standardized it should not be changed for any one specific person, race or gender. In this particular case, there are other female NY firefighters and two that made it thru the tests in her class. So it can and has been passed by females. Why is this particular female special? Why should she get special treatment? Once they let this person in after not passing the standardized test, it is no longer the standard test, they have lowered the standard. Once this starts, when and were does it stop?
  11. Wonder if we will see any riots over this....doubt it http://www.foxnews.com/us/2015/05/04/nypd-officer-shot-in-head-reportedly-dies-from-injuries/
  12. I think that was the joke I think Divalent forgot to turn on the sarcasm font
  13. It actually isn't that far fetched of an idea! Maybe not for Oregon to Cali, but water is moved like this a lot, most people just don't realize it. I used to work for this company http://www.american-usa.com/products/spiral-welded-steel-pipe/spiral-welded-steel-pipe/spiral-welded-steel-pipe. And as an industrial contractor, still do some work for them. I have some welders on site now as a matter of fact. Spiral weld is currently building a pipe line to transport water over a large portion of TX. Not sure of the specifics, but was told it is to be a couple hundred miles.
  14. Doesn't take much to clear it! Usually looking over your shoulder to see why nothing is coming out is enough.
  15. I don't really notice it, unless there is a plane flying overhead fairly low. Say below 3,000 ft. I have grown up and lived most of my life around an AFB. Grew up will Shaw AFB near by, while in the Marines and living in HI was stationed at Kaneohe Bay which is a Marine air base, and now live near Shaw again, so jet noise is pretty common. (Those jets are loud though, I wonder if i could get a petition started to shut Shaw down )

  17. First jump was a static line out of a 182, did two that day, two the following weekend and two more the weekend after that. The rest is history
  18. Just a guess... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cosmopolitan_%28cocktail%29

  20. I use a powertool to pack normal rigs and tandem rigs. It is much more comfortable to me. Use whatever you want!
  21. Nothing wrong with this method. The only thing I would do different, is to leave the "window" exposed. Simply pull a little of the bridle out until you see the window. There was a small rash of pierced bridles a little while back, and you started seeing more of this method as a way to prevent it. For some piece of mind, pull the pilot chute and bridle out and watch how it comes out. http://www.dropzone.com/cgi-bin/forum/gforum.cgi?post=4158486;search_string=pierced%20bridle;#4158486
  22. I was wondering from the beginning if he actually got the rig from strong ent, or did he go on ebay and get one? You can buy complete MC-4s for less than $2,000.00 I was also wondering, since he does have a complete MC-4, could he be put out on a static line jump? Obviously he needs an AAD, but I was thinking send him up on a SL and then at least you know that he will have a canopy (unless there is a mal). But honestly, if I was the DZO, I probably wouldn't let him jump either!
  23. This was actually one of the other adverse effects that I thought off. I have had heat shrink "get hard" after shrinking, and was worried it might cut the lines. Is there a specific type of heat shrink that should be used, or avoided?
  24. I actually like the idea, seeing his was just the first time I had ever seen it done. I am about to put a new line set on my velo, and was thinking about doing it as well. So I just wanted to see what other people opinions on it are. I wasn't trying in anyway to say it was a bad idea or that I saw anything wrong with it. I just wanted to know if it was common or if anyone that has done it have had any adverse effects or if there were any they could think of. I had already thought about the heat on the lines, and a few others. I am just seeing what people think. And I usually try not to mention people names on the forums, since I know how people get on here
