  1. I went to RIT, and jumped at Frontier. It's on the small side but the people are very good.
  2. I am not sure how jump numbers factor into this. Are you implying that with more jump numbers it's okay to NOT focus on the pattern? Collapsing a slider takes maybe 3 seconds. Make sure you're clear and have a good canopy, then collapse it.
  3. I had a brake line snap on opening. All I did was use the other toggle to fly straight, and landed with a PLF. I have a larger parachute (160), so this might not be applicable if you jump a smaller canopy. If you need to flare I would definitely use both rears.
  4. Bet the Nobel committee is just thrilled.
  5. I would be more worried about the plane than the rain.
  6. The imported from Detroit and the one with the little kid Darth Vader were my favorites.
  7. The ending made me laugh out loud!
  8. There is a difference though. I'm sure that many people who are not Muslim have not read the Qur'an, and so assume it is much like the Bible. They are completely different, and this matters on the basis of being the guides for one's religion! The Christian Bible is a collection of verses written by many people over a long period of time. Many of these passages conflict, and there are stories and metaphors that teach us the lessons of christ. There is a certain amount of interpretation which is necessary to make sense of it all. The Qur'an is of course completely different. It is a book written by one man in his lifetime, and contains mostly direct commands. It even explains how to deal with contradictions ; if two passages conflict the later one takes precedence. Thus there is nothing to interpret. As such, religions like Christianity can grow while religions like Islam cannot. If you feel as if the prevailing attitude of Christianity is wrong somehow, you can challenge it. This is not so with Islam in the strictest sense, because the Qur'an is quite explicit on how you follow it. The muslims you explain who live in the US and Europe may or may not respect Sharia Law. I don't know and I can't speak for them. But if they follow their religion, there is no way for them to ignore it since Islam encompasses much more of one's life than does christianity. While Christianity means only to guide one morally and spiritually, Islam governs that, plus Government structure, property law, marriage law, and many many others, all of which are commanded in the Qur'an. This of course provides a built in barrier for Muslims to criticize each other and affect change, which is the real issue. Of course most Muslims are peaceful, that's not the point. The point is that the majority of Muslims allow this to go on, and allow their governments to be run by extremists.
  9. I'm not entirely sure why you're upset. he put it as reasonably as he could. Maybe he was helping the newer jumper with a drill dive or something and juts wanted to do a 2 way. His response doesn't seem that rude at all. If you want rude, the first time I visited perris I saw 3 people in RW suits chatting. I asked if they wanted to jump with me. "Do you have tits?" "No I don't" "Then no, we don;t want to jump with you."
  10. Man. It's not like I needed another reason to never jump there…
  11. I've seen student cypreses do this too.
  12. That's really hard to do in Southern California, seeing as how all DZs here accept those. Sorry, but I'm not going to drive 300 miles out of my way just because Elsinore and Perris take skyride.
  13. This is not an easy issue as you make it out to be, seeing as how the burka is in direct opposition to those ideals that free societies hold. When you have a religion that seeks not just to guide private life, but public life by laying down a foundation for laws, then you really need to think about the consequences of that becoming the majority and what it would mean for the rule of law and life as a whole. As Europe ages rapidly and is having fewer and fewer children to replace the old retiring workers, immigrants from muslim countries are filling that gap, and they are coming in faster than Europeans are having babies. In a generation or two, this issue could get a lot more complicated if you wish to protect free society in Europe.
  14. Search for 'Perian' and install it. It's a free plugin for quicktime that enables it to play many many files. Avi is one of them.
  15. I am fine sitting by a completely open door. I get nervous when people crack the door a little bit. If the door is wide open, I can leap out if a pilot chute flies. If it's open a crack and a pilot chute escapes, I'd be going through the plane. This is why I think if you want the door open it should be open all the way.
  16. "Don't worry. Whatever happens to you, I'll be fine". - Eddie
  17. I've seen 3 student cypress 2s fire while descending in a plane.
  18. Why must I contemplate my own mortality to be safe in this sport? I'm 25 and nobody in my family has died while I've been alive. None of my friends have died. I haven't experienced death in any form yet. Yet when I make a jump I know there's certain things I have to do and be aware of, and certain risks I'm taking. Why do I have to think about DEATH in order to be safe up there? Do you think that will somehow make me take it more seriously? Believe me, I take it seriously already.

    Hypocrisy

I'm pretty astonished by all the hate directed towards rich folks who do what they can to minimize their tax burdens. There's nothing wrong with arranging things within the law to lower the amount of taxes you owe.
  20. 5:6:0 Escape to Elsinore boogie. Would have jumped Sunday but I had to watch the Masters. That probably worked out for the best because 1. There was clouds and rain, and 2. Everybody was still asleep after the costume party.
  21. If it's laid back you want, go to Elsinore. Jumping at Perris is always serious business
  22. Yeah, spandex in the arms, nylon on the front. Also buy a fitted suit. So much depends on a good fit.
  23. First date with a girl who went to a religious college. She herself wasn't religious, but went there for the music program. I go to her dorm room to pick her up, and she opens the door. I come in, and my shirt gets caught on the handle and rips. No problem she says, I can sew that in just a sec. I remove my shirt and she starts to fix it. 3 or 4 minutes later, the campus safety barges in, asking her what a half naked male is doing in her dorm. Some prude passing by saw what was going on and called it in!
