  1. People who have loud conversations on cell phones in public places are boorish morons. If you can't fix it with a hammer, the problem's electrical.
  2. The intel was wrong, because they didn't have agents on the ground in Iraq until we started gearing up to invade. Now we did have a chance to overthrow Sadam back in the Clinton years, but the White House didn't back the plan. The best opportunity of all was during the Bush(41) years, in 1991. 3. Cool, I overpaid and got your $4,000 as my refund. Thanks. If you can't fix it with a hammer, the problem's electrical.
  4. Your question is not relevant to my comment or this thread. It is a transparent attempt to distract attention from your revisionist version of history. You might find the following interesting: www.datanation.com/fallacies/index.htm If you can't fix it with a hammer, the problem's electrical.
  5. I don't go in front of the nation and the entire Congress and make claims that I can't back up. Bush did. I didn't claim funks didn't know the cause of the war - you did. You and Bush seem to have different reasons for the war (now), though. Revisionism at it's best. I didn't make ridiculously optimistic statements about the length and cost of the war. Bush's White House staff did - on the record. If you can't fix it with a hammer, the problem's electrical.
  6. You can read all about why it started in the 2003 State of the Union Address: www.whitehouse.gov/news/releases/2003/01/20030128-19.html GWB's own words. Lots of stuff in there that turned out to be untrue. A little Googling will also find you White House extimates on how long it would last (6 months) and how much it would cost ($100M max). 7. Not possible at this time. If you can't fix it with a hammer, the problem's electrical.
  8. Northern Illinois this weekend forecast to be mid 50s and sunny. And the planes have all gone south! If you can't fix it with a hammer, the problem's electrical.
  9. PhD Student you may be, but this makes no sense what-so-ever. This is a simple mechanics problem if you ignore air density. In the simple state of a body, which is stable and falling towards the earth, the force pulling the body down is just the force of gravity, so the force is mass times gravity. This force of gravity must be counteracted by the drag force on the body, which goes as the square of the velocity times the surface area times the coefficient of drag (coefficient of friction is ignoring many many things which are extremely important to the problem) times some miscellaneous constants. If two bodies have the same type of jumpsuit (same fit, same material, etc) then they will practically have the same coefficitn of drag. If they end up having the same surface area, then they will have the same drag force. Now if one person weighs more, then they will have a larger force of gravity, so the only variable in the above expression for drag is the velocity, so velocity must increase to counteract the downward force. Hence the body must speed up. There is absolutely no reason to use a hyperbolic fuction here, not to mention it is incorrect. The velocity vs. time function for an object freefalling at high Reynolds No. under gravity under conditions of constant air density IS the hyperbolic tangent. dv/dt = A-B*v^2 where A and B are constants. separate the variables and integrate --> v = C*tanh(...) Jeez!! Even my cat can do that! If you can't fix it with a hammer, the problem's electrical.
  10. Ahhhh... but which weighs more, a pound of gold or a pound of feathers? To make it interesting... also say which weighs more; an ounce of gold or an ounce of feathers? Avoirdupois? Troy? If you can't fix it with a hammer, the problem's electrical.
  11. I think it's the plural of "xyzzy", a very important term in the history of computer gaming.
  12. That is surprising? Don't you have to prove that you are not a criminal before they give you the permit? If you can't fix it with a hammer, the problem's electrical.
  13. No, my proposal includes mandatory education/training for each license level. Derek Are we discussing your proposal, Bill's proposal, Ron's proposal (if he has one), Brian's WNE chart, or general principles? It would be very handy to know exactly what we are discussing. Would probably save a lot of griping. If you can't fix it with a hammer, the problem's electrical.
  14. Death Penalty maybe? You mean like the governor of Illinois puts a moratorium on the death penalty, and violent crime in Chicago drops 39%. Yes, I expect that's it. If you can't fix it with a hammer, the problem's electrical.
  15. I think WMDs will be found in Iraq. Ohh - wait a minute. If you can't fix it with a hammer, the problem's electrical.
  16. Maybe it goes to pay for the materials and labor needed to make that equipment, and a bit of profit for the company. Where do you think it SHOULD go? If you can't fix it with a hammer, the problem's electrical.
  17. Well, it looks like Skyrides scooped up the United Parachute Club UPC url and have it redirecting you to the "Skydive Pennsylvania" website. I found it when I was trying out the dz locator on DZ.com, and clicked on the UPC listing and then their website. The more linked sites that have some such reference, the more likely they are to come up in a Google seach. Several skydiving sites now have fairly prominent "SKYRIDE SCAM" notices in them, and the search engines find them. If you can't fix it with a hammer, the problem's electrical.

  22. Is that 1% of all registered users, 1% of anyone who ever posted to any forum, 1% of SC posters? 1% of those who post to SC at least once a week? I can't imagine many get banned from History and Trivia or Relative Work (could be mistaken). If you can't fix it with a hammer, the problem's electrical.
  23. People are too stupid to live. (Joke, not personal attack coming. Can't be too careful around here) They don't all swoop ponds. Nice avatar you have. If you can't fix it with a hammer, the problem's electrical.
  24. ... that the users perceive as fair. Some people appear unable or unwilling to distinguish between the canvas and paint and Mona Lisa, the vinyl and Beethoven's 9th, the paper and ink and Hamlet,, the chunk of marble and David. Ron said it a few posts back - the poll shows that a majority of users here perceive a bias, and they are just the ones that are still around to vote.
