  1. yes if you are willing to pay for it. here you can do a HALO tandem but it will run you around $3,000.00 - not worth it to me when i can wait til i get my C license and do a HALO solo for $350... As for me and my house, we will serve the LORD...
  2. thanks for the advice. i only have 3 jumps on it so far, all 3 PRO packs. the only one that slammed me was when the nose was quartered and tucked into the center. i will try PRO packing and rolling all 9 cells tightly tomorrow and post the result. if that produces slammer openings i will try a flat pack or a psycho pack and see how that does. results posted tomorrow evening.... 3. it was recalled after they determined the slider was too small for the canopy (pocket slider?)...however since i just bought the canopy, and it was made 12 years ago, i was wondering if they would still replace the slider or charge me for a new one. OR if there is anything i can do in packing to give a nice soft opening. apparantly the guy i bought the rig from is super anal about his stuff, and he didnt see a reason to replace the slider...i am 100% certain he did not have openings like i had or he would not have kept jumping that slider/canopy configuration (it fucking HURT). 4. was told my Sabre i just bought has the original slider. it was manufactured in 1992, apparantly a recall was issued on all sliders for Sabres pre-1996. i have only jump it 3 times (just got it last week). my last opening was a real slammer. however, the pack was with 4 and 4 rolled into the center cell instead of all 9 rolled together. i read somewhere afterwards that quartering the rolls into the center is not a good idea with original Sabres. any suggestions? also will PD replace the slider, or will i have to buy a new one? i am in the middle of moving so i really dont have the cash for a new one at the moment....thanks. 5. my DZ is a bit more progressive than most.... jumps 1-3 on a 265 w/l @.87 next 25 jumps on a zpo-210 w/l @ 1.10 (2 on an F-111 210 same w/l). just bought a rig, vector 2 with a Sabre 190 w/l @ 1.21. 3 jumps on it so far, plan on putting about 300 to 500 jumps on it before i downsize again. 6. look at the picture very carefully. i am way low on jump numbers but ive seen a lot of tandems at the dz...the passenger is pushing into the TMs stomach. the passenger is also in a dearched position, almost knee-flying. there is nothing visible between the TMs legstrap and the passengers lower attachment point. not saying it is photoshopped, but something about it just doesnt look right. it looks almost like a hybrid jump or a rodeo - except the "passenger" doesnt appear to be wearing a rig. anyways, weird pic. must have been a total bitch to land that, the passenger is a good 3 feet lower than the TM it appears. 7. good question, i have thought about it for a while and i really dont think i control my fear so much as just plow through it. the payoff is worth the discomfort for me. yeah, i am scared on the way to altitude, scared when the door opens, but i KNOW i am gonna jump despite that fear, because it makes me happy. i love freefall, i love the feeling of nailing a landing. hell, i even love watching the faces of folks who have just done their first tandem. on a side note, i am not nearly as scared as i used to be. my first 15 or so jumps i was literally soaked in sweat by the time we hit altitude. now its more of a tenseness and actually much easier to get through. but like i said, when i manifest for a load, there is no doubt in my mind that i am gonna jump, despite the fear. 9. Dammit Billy, you better be back next year. i need to get some CReW. can you dock on my Sabre 190? i damn sure aint trying to dock on your Triathalon..... As for me and my house, we will serve the LORD...
  10. actually 2 years. if i am not mistaken the age for tandem was lowered to 16 with parental consent. get some tandems and make them working dives. and learn to pack. hell, you could be an ace packer by the time you get to go through AFF, i cant tell you how much that will help you. and you can get paid for it. there is plenty you can do before you are 18 to help you out in this sport, i have seen it firsthand at my DZ. good luck. edit to add i know folks that paid for AFF with packing - they pack all day saturday and then do AFF on sunday. 11. heh, have to disagree. i thought it was a total and complete utter fucking piece of shit. not a suspenseful scene in it, it made ZERO sense, unrealistic in every way humanly possible, godawful acting, even worse direction, some of the worst most inane dialogue i have heard in years etc. i will not go into depth about any of it since i am sure many folks here havent seen it, but my advice? wait for HBO, its not even worth a rental. or better yet just avoid it completely. i wish i had the 100 minutes back to do something more fun, like get my teeth pulled with no anesthesia and comparing this "film" to Se7en or Silence of the Lambs is blasphemy. 12. if you get a sugarglider, be sure to get a baby. the bonding process is crucial, and once it has bonded to you it cannot be sold to another person - it might not die of loneliness (although this is thought to happen quite a bit), but it will be mean as hell to the new owner. they have sharp little teeth and they will bite. also, try to get one from a breeder, the ones you see in petstores tend to bond to the person that takes care of their cage (bonding is through scent with these animals). they make excellent pets if you have the time for them. 13. i passed in 7 jumps, but then i went and did a bunch of solos just screwing around when i shoulda been doing coach jumps and working on my A. oh well... i should have it in a couple of weeks now that i am getting my track fixed As for me and my house, we will serve the LORD...
  14. on my 19th jump i saw i was going to punch a small cloud and thought well no big deal, its small. i hit it at about 9500' and came out of it at right around 4 grand...low opening for me at that point. and to top it all off, i was jumping a brand new (first) altimeter. i was blowing throught the white, glancing at my alti every so often thinking, damn! i hope this thing is working right... As for me and my house, we will serve the LORD...
  15. i shouldnt be talking at my jump numbers, BUT....did the canopy snivel on opening? if you threw out at 5500 and it did, you didnt lose 2500' messing with the mal before you chopped. i have had snivellers that took about 1000' to open... and excellent job BTW.
  16. hey not too many CRW folks at my DZ but there will be some this weekend for the boogie. should i try some CReW with a really experienced person if i get the chance? i have 30 jumps. and no clue what CReW is like. i have been told that CReW will give me a much better understanding of my canopy and how it flies, but noone has ever told me if there is a recommended minimum jump number to try it. any advice? thanks. 17. the us remake of The Ring is virtually the same as the japanese version; however, they cut out the explanation of exactly what is going on. in my opinion the japanese version is a little creepier and more complete. As for me and my house, we will serve the LORD...
  18. okay, since this is such a divisive topic, lets hear your opinions: what wingload should a jumper be at with 30 jumps? not me specifically, just a generic jumper with 30. conventional wisdom seems to be 1:1, but what is it at your dz? As for me and my house, we will serve the LORD...
  19. question from a new jumper....just curious: when doing a tandem, whose body position is more important - the student or the TM? i would assume the TM, but can the student totally fuck the TMs stability, and how? i mean if the student goes fetal and the TM arches what is the end result? whose body position makes the most difference? the TM or the student? i am assuming something along these lines is the reason TMs have to watch that video of tandems biffing in before certification.... As for me and my house, we will serve the LORD...
  20. hey thanks for trying to help, all of you, but lets chill. AggieDave - PM sent. the rest of you, please chill. if its just gonna be flaming then let it die. if anyone else has useful info please fell free (other than flame bullshit). and Tonto - well i guess you pissed me off a bit by calling me arrogant and ignorant but i see where you are coming from. i AM ignorant, with only 30 jumps what else could i be? but i am not arrogant, and i did not make the decision on my own, i asked advice from the jumpers i know and the ones i dont to get a balanced opinion. Skybytch gave me a great PM, i talked to my S&TAs about her concerns. they still recommended the 190, although i am now looking at buying a 210. will cost a lot (already have the 190). i think i will jump with my coach (last out, open high) and have him evaluate my canopy skills on the 190. anyone have a problem with that? and please, NO flames.....just honest opinions without the....fuck, nevermind. just your opinions. but no flames, if you want to flame just let the thread die. 24. used to not bother me but my ex-gfs little kitten (about 7 months old) kept jumping up and playing with her/my hair and meowing...kinda killed the mood. at least we both got a good laugh about it (even if i didnt finish getting laid) As for me and my house, we will serve the LORD...
